Private, historic Beach House

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Property type villa
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

Large rustic home, 4.5 bedrooms, large pool and patios, on the beach

Escape the hustle and bustle of every day life in this historic, rustic beach-front home. Built in 1925, by George Albert Zabriskie, this beautiful home was often the party location for several of Zabriskie's friends, including the Rockefellers!

The estate sits on an expansive stretch of land, in the non-driving zone of the World's Most Famous Beach, making it virtually your own private beach.

The Doldrums is approximately 3600sq. ft., has a pool, decorative fountains, authentic Spanish tiles and design, a beautiful courtyard to welcome you and the property is enclosed by wrought iron gates. As beautiful as it is, it has an older, rustic feel so if you are looking for 5 star/pristine conditions, this may not be the home for you. On the back lawn there is a large tiki hut perfect getting married, or for reading a book, watching the dolphins go by, counting the pelicans as they fly overhead, or simply relaxing and being at peace.

The home is for sale also, so if you have any interest, please inquire. After Hurricane Irma, the home had some external damage. It is not quite as pretty as it was, so please excuse the extra imperfections. A discount has been made.

Fantastic Family Reunion House

  • 5 of 5

We held a family reunion at the Spanish House last weekend. It was a perfect venue in many ways. The views of the ocean were fabulous, even with stormy weather we were able to enjoy to beach from inside and outside. The pool area offered us a respite from the salt and sand, plus a perfectly sized covered patio, with cooler! Seating around the pool was convenient. A favorite spot was the smaller thatch-covered patio on the lawn overlooking the beach.

We cooked most meals and the well-supplied kitchen made that very easy. The house was large enough that we could get away for some quiet moments when we wanted and the dining tables were big enough that we could all share a meal, reminisce or have a card game. The billiard table was also lots of fun.

The building itself is an attraction and we all enjoyed being in that space in particular. We'll definitely look at renting this house again!

I booked this property for extended family to celebrate my husband’s 50th and it could not have been more perfect. We truly appreciated the history and rustic charm of this home, that made us feel like we were somewhere in Europe.

This place will forever be in my heart, between the uniqueness of it, the proximity of the beach and the sound of the waves, and the memories that we made there.

Thank you so much for sharing this special place with us, for your hospitality, and for a memory we will have for a lifetime!

Beautiful, historic, oceanfront property with loads of character.

  • 5 of 5

We loved everything about staying in this home! There is a lot of space to spread out with many rooms and nooks both inside and out. There are also great large spaces for gathering the whole family. Five adults and five children slept comfortably in the four bedrooms, day-bed, and large sectional. I can’t imagine finding a better property so close to the ocean. While not everything on the property is in pristine condition, there is so much character and richness in the materials used to build this home—beautiful tile floors, wooden beams, weathered wood doors, to name a few—all create a welcoming and charming home that has given our family a truly memorable vacation. New pool cues would significantly improve the usability of the pool table. The property manager responded quickly to our queries before and during our stay. We hope to return someday and highly recommend this property!

The home is a great home. Like the description says, it's older, but it has a lot of character. The pool table room needs a little updating with the sticks and felt. My kids had a ball. They didnt want to leave. Will stay again.

Thanks for everything Lara.
