We would stay again

  • 4 of 5

We rented this house for a mom's weekend away. The house was clean and comfortable. We used the hot tub and cooked in the kitchen. The beds were comfortable. We went hiking at Ohiopyle and wine tasting at one of the local wineries. We would be open to renting this house again in the future.

My friend and I spent a week at Hollow Hideaway in June. We were impressed by the cleanliness inside. The kitchen was well equipped, the knives were sharp, and the granite countertops were a nice update. The refrigerator and stove worked well. The water pressure was great, and the beds were very comfortable. The WiFi service was very good. The back deck was a nice size and had a picnic table. The front porch was larger than it looked in the photos.

On the down side, the dishwasher had a terrible moldy smell. We were told they were waiting on a part and that it wasn’t working. Apparently it has been quite a while since it was last used. They must have had some plumbing problems in the downstairs bathroom. Sections of drywall had been cut out and not repaired. It was fine during the day, but it was kind of creepy at night. I kept thinking something was going to crawl out of the wall. Also, not a big deal, but the shower is actually in the 1st floor bedroom, separate from the sink and toilet. The two upstairs bedroom closets were a nice size, but neither had rods to hang clothes. We didn’t use the hot tub because there were too many wasps flying around. We had to knock down a nest and spray to be able to sit outside. Some landscaping around the house would be helpful. There were lots of weeds and the bushes need to be trimmed. One bush was so high it had grown into the screen of the sliding glass door upstairs and pushed it out. The basement was kind of damp, and the light over the washer and dryer was flickering, so we decided not to wash clothes.

Unacceptable Cabin Rental

  • 1 of 5

After 5 months of planning for a week in Ohiopyle to bicycle the Great Allegheny Passage, we booked the Hollow Hideaway based on its four 5-Star rating (most recent was 2-3 years old) and the photographs of the cabin and rooms. We arrived mid-afternoon only to find a cabin with the lawn overgrown, screen doors hanging off of the front and rear cabin. Once inside the cabin, it smelled badly only to find the broken dishwasher still filled with standing water and with black over-growth...smelled like a septic system. My wife has to wipe the toilet it was so dirty, leaving the cleaning rag covered in dirt. The ceiling of the bathroom had 3 holes in the ceiling with spiderwebs on the opening and moths flying in and out. Curtains were crooked, the lampshades were covered in animal and human hair. The hot tub was cloudy with bacteria. We could not stay there and had to leave after notifying the owner. I am glad I documented everything with photographs.

You will not run out of things to do within a half hour of this wonderful home! If gambling is your thing- it's close too!

This was a wonderful place! It was clean, cozy, and wonderfully relaxing! We will make sure to tell our friends about it and are trying to plan another "get-a-way" there sometime soon!!

An Amazing Mountain Getaway

  • 5 of 5

My girlfriend and I spent a weekend at Hollow Hideaway for a birthday getaway in the mountains. It snowed practically the entire time, but that did not prevent us from having an amazing weekend! The description of this beautiful cabin is on point and the amenities were more than accommodating. The property was clean and well maintained. The owners were more than helpful and went beyond their duty of customer service. Being wine enthusiasts, we spent a day at the local wineries, then a night of fun and dining at Nemacolin. We highly suggest the Apex for great food and a beautiful view of the slopes. After a great day out and about, we returned to relax in this warm cabin and ended the night in the hot tub, which was the perfect temperature for a snowy day. The following day we ate breakfast in the cabin and had everything we needed to prepare the meal. The rest of our day was spent at Seven Springs, which is only a short distance from the cabin. We have spent weekends in various other cabins and this is by far the best experience we have had!

Winter Weedend Aaway

  • 5 of 5

My wife and I spent a very snowy weekend here with 4 of our Friends. We very comfortably lodged 6 adults here. While the pictures here are adequate, they do not do this cabin justice. It was beautifully furnished, and MUCH more spacious than it appears. Picture-esque views all around from your secluded lot, but less than 10 minutes from niche restaraunts, quality dining, and even local watering holes. Another thing that was really great were the owners. They were very accomodative, and were very gracious in working with us on short notice for our weekend getaway. I can't say enough good things about this rental or its owners. Dont let the arctic temperatures of the winter sway you either, it was very comfortable and even temperature in the cabin, and using the hot tub (which was very clean also) was an excellent way to top off a great weekend. I would highly recommend this lodging to anyone. We will undoubtedly be back in the not so distant future.
