I don’t recommend
We were not aware of NO BATH TOWELS and NO SHEETS in the house because the website did not say that. The house was dusty. Our main problem was the property manager Eli was so rude. He basically accused us of stealing towels, and berated us for moving a telescope to a different corner of a room. It was so bizarre. The owner needs to make some changes.
Upon our arrival, father of owner demanded that a damages deposit be paid to him personally or he wouldn’t let us into the house. We had with us written proof that we had put up the refundable damages deposit with VRBO as part of our second payment a month earlier, plus had taken out the optional damage insurance.
He refused to look at the proof. Demanded cash, no checks, repeatedly threatened to make us leave.
Nine of us including four small children witnessed his belligerent, profanity-laced behavior -- such that our daughter in law called the police, asked them to stand by because he was scaring her children.
With nowhere else to go we had to give in to his demands and went out to find to an ATM. When we put the cash on the table, he wouldn’t take it at first, wanted us to admit fault; then took it and refused to give a receipt. Also threatened to take our linen service tubs to the dump “so you’ll lose your deposit” if the service didn’t pick them up by check-out time.
We filed a report on the matter with VRBO while we were still there. With no claimed damages, we eventually got back both the real deposit from VRBO (refund back to credit card) and the “deposit” the individual had extorted from us (personal check this time, refused to give back the cash).
We could comment on the positives and negatives about the house and its location, and the good time the kids ended up having, but this horrible episode colored the entire trip for the adults. Obviously we’ll never return.
Adequate but needs attention...
We stayed at this house from August 15 thru August 22. The Good: this house is roomy and conveniently located. It has cold central air conditioning and accomodations to sleep many people. Open Wi-Fi and cable. First floor washer and dryer that were very convenient. Safe, quiet neighborhood. Pets allowed. The owners were very responsive. Ten minute walk, three minute drive to Old Silver Beach.
The bad: the owner and a cleaning person cleaned the house prior to our arrival, however, after we arrived and settled in the small details were noticable. Spiderwebs and numerous large spiders in the kitchen and on the dining room chandelier and upstairs in the bedrooms. Outdated, balky appliances that are in need of replacement (broken drawers, knobs missing temperature numbers, non-functioning burners, broken door gaskets). The listing stated a flat screen TV was located in the living room. This was inaccurate, it was a small Sony tube TV with a glass screen. There were 2 computers listed in the description and none were present. The downstairs game room (where there is a large flat screen) was for us unuseable as it reeked of cigarette smoke. Of the two decks, the upper level has peeling stain and splintered flooring, not a place one would want their young children running around after a day at the beach. The lower deck is only accessible from inside due to the wild grapes, bittersweet and picky vines choking the back yard. The stairs from the upper deck leading down swayed when I walked on them and we did not allow our kids to use them. The picnic table on the deck was covered with a plastic table cloth which revealed the badly rotting wood top after a rain storm. The yard and driveway are poorly maintained and overgrown with weeds. Rotting trim and missing light bulbs outside.
With a little cleaning, updating and repair this location could be stellar, but for us it was not worth the rental fee ($2400 for the week) for the condition of the house. If one can overlook these shortcomings this is a convenient place to stay. I did take photos of what I described and will forward them to the owner.
Great location and Great house
The listing description was excellent. The home was clean and well-maintained. Eli and Justin were great to work with in booking this house. It was a quick walk to Old Silver Beach. It was the perfect size for us - we were able to have visitors come and stay for a few days and not feel cramped. The basement was perfect for the teenagers and the twin beds made it perfect for drop ins. If need be, there was still plenty of floor space available if you had an air mattress.
Great location and Great Home
This house was perfect. The listing provided an accurate description of the house and it's amenities. It was clean and well-maintained. Eli and Justin were very easy to work with in booking the rental. Although we didn't have any problems during our stay...I feel confident that Eli would have been prompt to the scene should we have needed him. We had considered obtaining a parking pass for the beach, but decided against it since we would have had to get up early to get in line to park at the beach. My sister was not able to walk to the beach, so one of us just shuttled her with the car and then returned to house to park and then walked down. The rest of us just walked to the beach and back everyday....which is just a short walk. The house is spacious enough that if you need to get away from everyone...there is a place to go.
