About the Owner
(24 traveler reviews)
For anyone reading the previous review I can assure you there was no house party that occurred during our stay. I can also say that I greatly resent his slanderous comments saying that my family was raised and a barn and being called drunks. The mountain of garbage that the owner refers to was there when we arrived. We offered to take the trash to the street for recycling but the owner assured us that someone would be there to remove it. Additionally, the lamp shape that the owner stated was broken was broken when we arrived. I can assure the reader I was not raised in a barn as the owner asserts. I was raised in a good Military Christian family where cleanliness was next to godliness. After we arrived at the house we went to store and bought bleach to clean the kitchen and bathrooms. When we departed we cleaned the entire house. We swept the floors, cleaned the kitchen and whipped down the bathrooms. I also found some of the art work to be potentially offensive to families with small children. Some of the art was from alternative lifestyle events. One picture was of a man in a thong.
Our evenings were spent talking on the deck or playing cards at the table. Our group consisted of myself, my husband and our children. One of the reasons for visiting Folly Beach was to spend time as a family with our son that was deploying to the Middle East with the Navy. We wanted to spend one week together since he would be deployed for the next 9 months. We would miss Thanksgiving and Christmas with him so we wanted to spend the week together as a family before he left.
So if feel like spending part of your vacation cleaning and then being called names and insulted this is he house for you.
I would look elsewhere for a rental!
The house was nice but I would look elsewhere on Folly Beach for a vacation rental. I have rented many different houses and condos using VRBO and HomeAway and this was by far the worst I rented. When my wife and I arrived at the home we were greeted by the owner. He showed us the house rules posted on the refrigerator and told us that someone would be there later in the week to pick up the recycling on the porch (which did not happen) and to fix a broken faucet in the master bath(which also did not happen). As he left he told us to be sure not break any windows. Mind you it is just my wife and I and we are both 50+. I will agree with the other reviews that the view is very nice. The front porch has a view of the ocean and the back porch has a view of the marsh. The beach was just a short walk across East Ashley Avenue. We did notice some kind of foul smell in the air, usually first thing in the mornings at low tide. We assumed it was from the marsh. In the evenings the tide would come in the smell would disappear but so would the beach. There is a house on the beach right across the street. Every evening the waves would come right up to their deck. This made walking on the beach in the evening impossible. We would drive further down East Ashley Ave and walk on the beach there where the tide was not a problem.Overall we thought that the owner put very little effort into making the house welcoming to the renters. We felt the property looked more like the owner had lived there for many years and did very little to update it for renters. The house was far from clean when we arrived. The kitchen utensils were greasy and dirty. The furniture was dated, there was a broken lamp shade in the living room, the master bedframe was broken, the porch steps were old and splintered, and the sheets / towels / bed spreads were stained. The kitchen could also be much better equipped for a family to cook in for a week. Finally there was black mold in the master bath in the tub and on the shower curtain. The house is pet friendly however the area for dogs is under the house. Under the house we found broken glass and beer caps in the sand and old splintered plywood where the dogs could easily be injured. In the front of the house there is a big bush. Every time we walked out to the beach a rat would run in to the bush. I did some research and Folly Beach has a problem with Norway rats and professional removal is recommended. Additionally, I a
An absolutely perfect spot!
This house is beautiful! From the front of the house you have views of the ocean, and from the back of the house, you have views of the beautiful greens of the marsh. The house has several porches - two large (back is screened in) on first floor and two smaller ones (front & back) off of upstairs master. The back porch has two tables to eat meals along with really comfortable seating area to enjoy the sunsets. The front porch also has a comfortable seating area. The inside of the house has everything you need - the kitchen is well equipped for cooking, there is a large TV in the living room (for rainy days) which is in front of really, really comfy furniture. The bedrooms are all very comfortable and really encourage you to rest and relax. The location of the house is a short drive into the main part of Folly Beach where you can pick up anything you might need or grab a bite at one of several restaurants right there. Alternatively, Charleston is a quick (and easy) 20 minute drive! This is a great house in a great location.
Amazing Porch and views!
We had an absolutely great visit! The front porch was amazing - we probably spent at least half of every day out there with the kids playing, napping in the hammock, or relaxing in the evenings. The view is amazing from both sides of the house. The beach is literally across the street, and was not too busy even on the weekends. All the necessities were there and, with just a few adjustments, we were able to be comfortable with our two small children playing all through the house. Our dog camped out on the stair landing or on the porch and loved her beach walks. It was comfortable and relaxed and we hope to be able to go back!
Home away from home!!! Love this place! The comfort and coziness of home. This is not a typical beach house with all the viewing pleasure you can stand. Just sitting on the couch and look to the left and see the beach and look to the right and see the marsh. It doesn't get any better than this. The area around is quite and family friendly. Thank you Jack we look forward to "Coasting at 1566" in the Fall!
A Great Time Had By ALl
Location, view and house amenities couldn't be beat. we were looking for a spacious house where everyone could be on different schedules yet feel comfortable just lounging at their leisure - even the dog found it relaxing. Great house with plenty of space with a great unobstructed view of the ocean. Owner was quite pleasant and made sure everything was in working order. The home is about 2 miles from the center of Folly, so it's a little quieter at the beach - plenty of beach to call one's own. We certainly will come back for our next Charleston vacation.
Activity and Interests
Swimming, boating, sailing, fishing, crabbing, kayaking, parasailing, surfing, windsurfing, parasurfing, bicycling, jet skiing, and all of the other activities that go along with a great vacation at the beach.
Historic Charleston is only 12 miles away, and offers sophisticated shopping, art galleries, museums, exciting night life and fine dining. The Aquarium, Maritime Center, The Market, Patriots Point, Middleton Plantation, Boone Hall Plantation, and the colossal Arthur Ravenel suspension bridge are just a few of the points of interest in this fabulous city.

This wildlife habitat is bounded by a long expanse of undeveloped beach that wraps around the end of the Island. It is freely accessible to visitors. It is a beautiful and pristine area.
