Laurel Highlands Retreat on a Budget

  • 5 of 5

Comfortable accommodations for two people. The actual condo is a bit dated and shows its age, but for the price it was perfect. It sits near the top of the slopes and is within walking distance of hiking trails including the Laurel Highlands Trail. Since we visited in August we enjoyed coffee on the quaint patio while gazing out at the lake and wildlife. The management were very nice and the neighborhood is quiet.

Pretty tiny and run down

  • 3 of 5

We rented for the holidays. The description on VRBO made it sound like there was also a loft - there wasn't. It literally sleeps 4; the description makes it sound like there's room in a loft which doesn't exist. With another couple visiting, and the pull-out couch extended, there was virtually NO ROOM to move around. No storage either. Even with just the 2 of us, it was tremendously small. Needs a lot of updating; for the price they wanted to rent it, I thought it was not in the greatest shape. I understand a rental gets a lot of abuse and most people just want a place to crash, however, to spend a week in it wasn't the best experience I've ever had. On a good note, lots of hot water (except the faucet in the "kitchen" needs replaced), and the kitchen was well appointed with pots & pans, etc. You need to bring virtually your entire house with you however - no paper products, no dishwasher detergent, few dishtowels, etc. if you're the type that eats most meals in. We only got 4 bath towels & washcloths for an entire week for 2 people - bring your own. We did get a welcome letter only after I called and asked about check in procedures, etc. and it did say exactly what was in the place, so I was well prepared. But, you shouldn't have to pack up your entire house to go somewhere! The bed (the only bed) in the bedroom was pretty comfortable, so that was good. The people were tremendously nice and the unit was clean when we arrived. I would rent from them again, just not a unit so tiny. Hopefully they will do some upgrades and make it better. Can't do much about the lack of space, though!
