Not super-luxurious, but everything you need.

We stayed in this cottage during the second week of August 2016. We had lovely weather and totally enjoyed the peace and quiet of Lubec. In the cottage, the rooms were very spacious and the layout would make it easy to have 2 or even three couples, or a family with adult or older children. The kitchen is a little old, but large and well equipped. The view from the front porch is lovely and we enjoyed sitting out there and watching the world go by. We did use the folding chairs we had brought with us as we did not find the porch chairs as comfortable. The furniture on the patio was cushier.

We greatly enjoyed the Campobello International park and also exploring the island. There were two lovely concerts, both free, the week we were there: a Renaissance music concert and a somewhat eclectic classical chamber concert. We didn't attend a third concert that was associated with a BBQ and featured country/folk. Another highlight was the herring smokehouse museum and an associated talk that was given one evening. (These talks are weekly in the summer.) It was great to have a week with no traffic lights (except at the border crossing), no parking meters, and no waits in restaurants.

We highly recommend the town and the house. It's worth the drive, assuming you don't live close by.

Great Vacation

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at the Bayviews Cottage the first week of August. The home was very clean and furnished nicely. With 3 adults and 2 kids the 3 bedrooms and 2 baths were ideal especially with everything on one floor. The yard was nice and the kids loved the deck and backyard. The home is nicely located and convient for restraunts, groceries, convenience store, and downtown.

I look forward to renting it again and highly recommend it to other vacationers.

Lubec is home to the West Quoddy Head Lighthouse, at the easternmost point of land in the contiguous U.S. The Down East area showcases nature at her finest. Whales, eagles, osprey, moose, and bear inhabit the region. During migration season, whales pass close enough to be seen from shore! Local whale and puffin tours provide the opportunity to observe nature up close and personal. Beach roses, wild iris, and beach peas line the pristine shoreline. The area is host to three state parks, two international parks, a national wildlife refuge, and several nature preserves, all of which offer a variety of well maintained hiking trails. The area is rich in history—the first naval battle of the Revolutionary War was fought in nearby Machiasport. Maine's own 'Cannery Row' lined the waterfronts of Lubec and Eastport with sardine canning factories. You'll find it all here—rich history, spectacular scenery, abundant wildlife, and friendly people. You won't find pollution, crowds, or traffic jams.
