Come and enjoy our beautiful home right on the widest part of the Homosassa River! The River is fed by the Homosassa Springs and leads directly out to the Gulf of Mexico. Homosassa is widely known for its fishing and scalloping. Cast a line directly off of our dock or hire a guide and you can even bring your own boat. We have two boat slips available for your convenience. Swim and snorkle the crystal clear waters at the Homosassa Springs that are a refreshing 72 degrees year round. If you don't bring your own boat there are plenty of rental facilities near by. There are restaurants and sight seeing all along the river. Busch Gardens, Lowry Park Zoo, and beautiful white sand beaches of Tampa are less than an hours drive. Also the central Florida attractions such as Disney, Universal, and Sea World are a short 1.5 hours drive away. Come relax waterside as cook smores in our cast iron fire pit right by the water. The living room faces the river with sliding glass doors that lead strait to a very large deck with plenty of seating while you grill your fines cuisine. Our kitchen is also fully stocked! Our home is 1,830 plus square feet with a very spacious living room for you entire family and friends to enjoy.
What a wonderful stay we had with Family of 9. More then enough room for everyone. You walk in and feel at home right away, decor was awesome and made it all the more comfortable and homey. Quiet and relaxing with one of the best views setting on the large deck. House was very clean with plenty of towels and bedding. Kitchen had everything you would need. The teenage boys loved "the Cave". Would not hesitate to stay again, hopefully next year during scallop season. Thank you Carolyn for letting us enjoy your beautiful home.
We spent January and February enjoying this wonderful home on the river. I can't add too much to what has been described by other reviewers. It's all delightfully true. We absolutely love it here and can't wait to come back!
What sets this apart from any other vacation rentals we've seen is the "personal touch" that fills the house - you feel like you're staying with old friends and the positive energy both inside and out is very welcoming. This is only matched by the family who owns the house - totally accommodating, making sure we were happy with everything and providing us tips on where to go and what to do in Homosassa (all of which were absolutely great).
There's no better place to be than out on the river (we brought our boat and kayaks - the dock worked out well for us) or sitting on the deck watching all the boating and wildlife activity. We had dolphins and manatee right there at the dock, not to mention all the pelicans and cranes and other birds fishing throughout the day. We took advantage of the fishing as well, finding spots up and down the river where we could throw out the anchor and throw in a line. The location of the house is perfect for any and all of the water activities we wanted. The kayaking is great, there are loads of places to explore.
There's ample parking for company and our boat trailer tucked safely out of the way. The neighbors were great, friendly but unobtrusive...a really nice little neighborhood.
All in all, we found the house and the area just perfect for us and completely understand why everyone seems to love it here. Looking forward to next year!
This house by far takes the cake on any house we have rented EVER! From the moment we pulled into the driveway - or even the boat dock, we were fascinated and intrigued. After a month of looking for a great house on the Homosassa River, we found this beauty. I contacted the owner and got a very quick reply. After a couple more emails, it was decided that we were going to stay here for our 2015 Scallop Vacation. This was our 5th year staying in Homosassa and I will never look at staying at another house ever again. This one blew us away. When you walk into the front door, you are greeted with a very "homey" feeling. From the cushy carpet, huge sectional couch that can fit everyone, amazing wall art (seriously the coolest fish and ocean art ever), to a great TV all right in the living room. Then go into the kitchen that is stacked with EVERYTHING you could want or need. Walk up the stairs to a huge loft that is room enough for many people. Then you have the master bedroom and bathroom as well as another big bedroom with its own bathroom right off the loft. You can walk on the wrap around porch to see out front. And the views from the back- AMAZING!!! Downstairs in the garage is a quiet and fun hidden cave- well not really a cave but a bedroom with a sink. Right off the kitchen is another full bathroom. So this house has it all 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, huge loft and on the River. What more could you ask for- well but wait, there is more. Go out back and there is a HUGE porch overlooking the river with plenty of seating and even a grill. Then down the stairs you have a HUGE area to hang out on with a fireplace, picnic table, sink, and fish cleaning area. The boat dock is pretty awesome too.
So long story short, if you are looking for the perfect, family friendly, homey house on the river- Look no further than this property. I promise you will not be let down. The owners are extremely nice, the cleaning crew is great as well.
You won't be disappointed:)
This was our first time to the Scallop Retreat. We had been going to Crystal River for the past 6 years. This time we chose to try Homosassa. Very grateful we did. The owner was very easy to work with and accommodating.
The local area is wonderful. Restaurants all available by water and a short distance away. The ride out to the scallop grounds is very beautiful to see, Olde Florida at its best. House comfortably accommodated my family and we had my wife's sisters family join us for a few days. We all enjoyed sitting on the rear deck. Great way to unwind and a great vantage point to watch the kids tube. A well stocked kitchen made it easy for us to prepare the wonderful meals that the scallops provided. Sitting in the living room with its wide open are allowed us to play games together, something we have not done it quite a while.
There are TV's in almost every room. I think the only one we had on was the living room and that was just to check the weather forecast. So many things to do and so close bye.
The dock out back is great. Not much of a tide change so we never had a worry. We had brought both of our boats and it was perfect.
I will be staying again if they will have us. Thank you for allowing us to share your home!
This place is awesome! We stayed last year and brought even more family with us this year. Very convenient by car or boat, lots of space outside and in. This is a family friendly home right on the river with all modern conveniences readily available. The large porch overlooks the river and we easily docked two boats on the excellent concrete dock. Weather you are into scalloping out in the gulf, tubing in the river, or chilling out at the Fishbowl, this place makes it easy to do whatever you like on or off the water. It is very clean and well maintained. We caught scallops both times we stayed, we also caught catfish and blue crabs right off the dock. There are several restaurants, grocery stores, and even a super Wal-Mart close by. We love the place and look forward to returning.
We stayed at this house for 6 days and 5 nights. We loved having a nice boat dock. The house is great. It is all the comforts of home. We loved eating outside on the porch for breakfast and dinner. I love how opened the housed is and how you can enjoy the view of the water from Living room, Kitchen and Loft area. I would stay there again. It was the best family vacation.
