About Celesta Gingerich

We love the outdoors and traveling and have always dreamed of having a log cabin in the woods. Lee loves to hunt and Celesta loves gardening and flowers.

Celesta Gingerich purchased this cabin in 2011

Why Celesta Gingerich chose Marion Township

The rolling hills of Morgan County are so beautiful and we found this property that has a mixture of woods and pasture. It is away from so much of the commercialized vacation areas, and yet not too far to still enjoy some of the attractions that go with having a good time. The locals are friendly and we have enjoyed getting to know the neighbors and their cultures and life perspectives.

What makes this cabin unique

We love to stay at the cabin just to get away from the daily grind and then in hunting season, there are lots of deer to chase!

We are pet friendly. Please let us know you are bringing pets. There is a $40 charge per pet for the duration of the stay.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Love this place!! It's so peaceful and beautiful...perfect for some time away from the stress of life. The cozy log cabin has great atmosphere and amenities. We especially liked the roomy bathroom and comfortable family room furniture. There's lots of woods and meadows to roam. The creek is lovely and well worth the effort it takes to get there. The place is full of wildlife...deer...singing birds...soaring hawks...and lots of wildflowers for picking. The peach cobbler from the Amish farm is highly recommended!

Amazing, scenic, restful, super clean, cozy

  • 5 of 5

Celeste and Lee,

Thank you for sharing your inviting cabin with us for the week. The cabin was stocked with everything we needed, super clean and cozy. It was so relaxing to rest, read, cook meals, and watch for wildlife. Take binoculars to see all the birds and wildlife! We stargazed and breathed fresh air. We ventured to Sarah Miller’s bakery (we just ate the last bite of her cinnamon rolls😀?). Triple Nickel Diner in town is a must stop for a meal. We really didn’t want to leave. You’ve made a very beautiful and nicely furnished retreat with a view of rolling hills and woods. Thank you.

Secret little hideaway

  • 5 of 5

I almost hate to give it 5 stars for fear it will become too popular. LOL! This cabin was perfect for three women. Everything we needed was provided in the kitchen, bath, etc. We loved the convenience of the gas stove for heating as it was unusually cold for April. Beautiful views from every window, nice front porch and deck, and plenty of room for parking. Large bathroom was a plus for us. I liked the numerous hooks throughout the cabin for hanging, towels, clothes, coats, purses, etc. keypad on front door was convenient for us; no need to keep track of a key. We were there three two nights, driving into Athens for events at OU. It’s a gorgeous drive that takes about 25 minutes. Although we never saw Celesta and Lee, they were available by phone if needed. Thank you for everything. We had a fantastic weekend and promise to be back next year! 🐾?💚?

Adorable, cozy retreat

  • 5 of 5

I loved the cabin! It was set on beautiful property with nice areas to hike around, and the cabin is in great shape, with a lot of great amenities. Washer and dryer, grill, plenty of kitchen supplies, nice bedrooms and a cozy living room. The fire ring outside with tons of firewood available was awesome!

Top Thing to do in City:

* Hiking.

* Fishing, Muskingum River.

* Produce Auction, Monday, Thursday.

* Shops in McConnelsville.

* Covered Bridges.

Top Thing to do in Budget:.....

Top Thing to do in Family:.....

32 acres of private property to hike. Wolf Creek runs along the west edge of the property. Lots of trees, birds, wild flowers, wildlife, and open pasture.

Groceries, pizza, subs, gas, etc. available in Chesterhill.

There is hiking on our property, which is 32 acres. We have trails through the woods and pastures, and a steep trail that goes down to Wolf Creek, which is our property line. Gifford State Park is only 7 miles south of our cabin, and has hiking trails. I was told there is a cave, but we have never gone there.

Numerous covered bridges cover southeastern Ohio. There is a map at the cabin with locations marked. One of them is about 2 miles from the cabin.

Wolf Creek Wildlife Area has several stocked fishing ponds, about 20 minutes from Antler Ridge. Locals tell us they have great bass and channel catfish.

Burr Oak State Park Lodge has lots of trails, and is 30 minutes away, with a scenic drive through the rolling hills to get there. There is Burr Oak Marina about 5 miles from the Burr Oak Lodge that rents pontoons, boats, canoes and kayaks.

We enjoy the quaint town of McConnelsville (20 minutes), with its 'small town' feel and lots of little shops to browse. Twin City Opera House has movies on weekends, and schedules concerts on the 3rd Sat. of each month.

Stockport Mill Inn and Restaurant (7 miles from Antler Ridge) is a restored mill right on the dam on Muskingum River. You can tour the 4 floors of charming rooms and sitting areas and the power turbine that used to grind the feed when the mill was in business. Unique, with great meals on weekends only.

The Wilds is about 40 minutes away, and very worthwhile, with wildlife tours, etc. They even have a Zipline now. You can Google many of these places before you decide.

Athens (30 minutes) is home to Ohio University, with lots of restaurants, parks, bike rentals, etc.

Marietta is about 40 minutes, right on the Ohio River.

Our cabin is not in the commercial area of Hocking Hills; we are about an hour from there. Our area is quiet, beautiful, and away from all the glamour. It is not for everyone, but we don’t know of any guests that have been disappointed.

Morgan County has a website with lots of info on things to do and see.
