Great location

  • 5 of 5

We were looking for a place on Cayuga Lake for our family of four that was close enough to visit Ithaca easily but also in the middle of wine country. This cute little cottage fit the bill. We had a great time taking the canoe and paddle-boat out on the lake, fishing from the dock (with worms easily found along the shore), making a bonfire at night (where you'll see dozens of other ones lighting up around the lake), watching the birds, swimming, and skipping stones (hard to resist with so many flat ones lying around). Everything you need for outdoor fun is there, though we wished we had brought binoculars. The cottage is on Sheldrake Point and so it has a great view of the lake -- and it's an easy walk (less than 10 minutes at a slow pace) to the Sheldrake Point Winery. The road out front has only local traffic, so it is easy to walk or jog every morning. My only complaint is that there was no kitchen table to make family dinners and board/card games more fun (the owner, Marla, is thinking of fixing that). There is an outdoor table and gas grill, but we got quite a bit of late day rain. Not having a table, however, probably got us to go out to dinner more than we might have, which definitely made our trip more fun. Don't miss the Atlas Bowl restaurant and bowling alley in nearby Trumansburg (easily followed by a visit to the Taughannock falls scenic overlook), which might have been the highlight of our trip. There are many wineries worth visiting nearby, several with good restaurants (we liked the food at Knapp winery). And Ithaca is less than a half-hour drive with lots to do. We took advantage of the Ithaca Farmer's market when we first arrived, but eventually we discovered the Wyckoff farmstand which we visited practically every day. Such a perfect location. Read Marla's very thorough guide closely and check out the many maps and pamphlets in the cottage. We had occasional trouble with the internet while we were there, which Marla says is a recent problem that everyone on the Point is experiencing and she hopes it can get resolved. You might ask about that if you'll need constant internet for work. We found the cable TV and HBO kept our attention when we were in the house, and internet access was only occasionally frustrating (while we were mostly glad to get away from it). Overall, a super experience for the whole family.

Cute cottage

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here very much. A comfortable, clean, fun cottage. Beautiful lake view and wonderful yard. Nearly 5 star. Only downsides were the boathouse and equipment for the lake looked like it hadn't been cleaned up for the season so we had to spend time ridding the paddle boat of dirt and spiders. Plus it was leaky. The kitchen is very well equipped but the microwave takes up all the work space. Food preparation was a challenge but cooking was easy. Poor internet service but we were told that was a regional temporary problem. Note that there is no washing machine/dryer but a laundromat is a few miles away. Owners very nice and respond quickly to questions.

Owner's Response: Hi Barbara, Thank you for your feedback. It was a pleasure having you as a guest at Longview Cottage. My sincere apologies about the boathouse. The cleaning crew that was supposed to handle it apparently had not. I just arrived for season and will be doing it myself! (Smile). Wishing you a wonderful rest of the summer and all the best. -Marla

A quiet, relaxing vacation in the Finger Lakes

  • 5 of 5

Longview was great for our vacation. House is cozy and comfortable and we really enjoyed the quick walk down to the dock for swims, camp fires and evenings spent relaxing by the water. The grill and kitchen were nice for cooking meals, including with vegetables from the farm stand up the road. Longview is also a perfect launching point for exploring the beautiful Finger Lakes region. plenty of hikes and vineyards are within driving distance. Definitely recommend this spot if you're looking for a quiet, clean and comfortable place to relax. The owners are great, and we also had a chance to meet the neighbors, who are very nice.

Good location in Finger Lake Region

  • 4 of 5

We stayed at Longview cottage at the end of June. The cottage was very nice. The view of the lake is very nice but it is a walk from the cottage to the lake as it sits back from the road and the Lake is across the road and down stairs.

Quiet roads are all around and it is very nice to be able to walk and enjoy the area.

If you enjoy hiking, it is a nice ride to either Watkins Glen or Taughhannock Falls.

We enjoyed Ice Cream at Cayuga Creamery. Ithaca is very close as well.

Brad and Marla are very nice hosts and will be glad to assist as needed.

Wonderful time!

  • 5 of 5

Right from the start we all felt at home. Marla,Brad,Lilly, and Mason treated us like family. The cottage was small but very comfortable and there was plenty of beach front to enjoy. The location is breath taking! One of the very few spots on the lake where you can see a sunrise and a sunset. We would definitely return to Longview again. The place was great and the people even better! Denny and Ruth D.

Lakeside Fun and Relaxation

  • 5 of 5

This is our favorite place to stay for several reasons but mostly because of the friendly and helpful owners. The cabin is so cute! It is clean and well maintained. It is very peaceful, and there are many memories to be made here.
