Delightful house, great location & friendly owner

  • 5 of 5

A doggy-welcoming house, although we didn't have dogs. We arrived just after Hurricane Matthew..... would the house still be habitable? 'Yes', said the owner when she was able to go back into the evacuated area, 'electricity just back on and water will be by the time you arrive in 3 days!!!' Thank goodness for that, for we should not have wanted to miss this most delightful of places.

The situation between the intra-coastal and the ocean means easy access to both areas of water, and nice shady walks around the local small roads.

So many houses around here were flooded (as the sea rose, from the inland direction), or were undermined by the crashing waves on the coastal side. Hurricane Matthew also wreaked havoc in St Augustine old town itself.

The only effects remaining that affected our stay was the lack of wifi, and many parks and some attractions were shut (but you never knew until you got there as there was no wifi!).

That said, we had a fantastic stay. So much to do locally, as well as the beach. We spent a lot of time on the balcony, so never used the other sitting-out areas. Although most of the ground floor is the unused double-garage, this is a very spacious house indeed. Thoroughly recommended.

I just wish I could share my photos with you, because they show so much more than we can write. Owners Direct.... what about it? When will reviews allow photos to be added?

We loved it, great pet friendly rental.

  • 5 of 5

We needed a rental for 2 weeks while waiting on our home in St. Augustine to close and be available for us and having dogs I was fearing we would have trouble finding an affordable place to stay for that long.

If you have pets that travel with you, this is a great place. The owner supplied dog/baby gates for us to help out and also there is a little fenced in area in the back part of the rental thats perfect for letting the fury ones run around.

The rental is only a short walk to the beach, we even took one of dogs that likes the water over there.

The rental is stocked with everything you would need and more. You name it, pots, pans, utensils, glasses, towels. The only thing we needed during our 2 week stay was food. We found everything we needed and more here.

The main area and kitchen are upstairs and one thing that I don't think is mentioned in the property description is that there is one of those seated stair lifts that you can use if you have trouble doing stairs or even use it to bring up your luggage, groceries, etc. Having a bad back and knees I found this very useful first thing in the morning when I needed to let the dogs out.

The property was very clean, the air conditioner works great, there are plenty of games, reading material, local menus, etc.

I could go on and on about how nice this place is.

And the owner goes above and beyond to make sure your happy and have what ever you need.

Please just give her time to respond if your needing to get in touch.

The balcony is great, you can hear the ocean while sitting and having your coffee.

I really hated to leave even though I was excited about our new home here, I wish I was staying there instead.

A little more about the area. The Reef restaurant as well as Caps on the water are within walking distance, grocery stores and gas are just a few minutes away. And downtown St. Augustine is like 10 min away as well.

We did enjoy Vinny's pizza place, they have really good dinners, huge pizzas and fast and friendly delivery.

Absolutely perfect!

Such an enjoyable trip! Homeowner was there to greet us when we arrived and showed us around her lovely home. It was just as described in her listing and then some. The kitchen was stocked with everything you could have wanted, the neighborhood was very quite and relaxing, and the location was just great. Not to far from the activities but far enough away not to get caught up in traffic and noise.

The only thing that I would add would be an outside security/motion light at end of house where you park.

Other than that, it was one of the best places we've stayed while using Home Alone or VRBO. We're already planning our next trip there!

Review #14846216 “Vilano Beach/St. Augustine = Pet Friendly- no young children”

Okay rental, but horrible communication

★ ★ ★ ★ ★

Although St. Augustine itself and Vilano Beach were lovely, we did not have a good experience renting this house, mainly because the owner was not responsive to emails. As we drove down the east coast on the day we were to arrive, despite repeated attempts to contact Myra, we hadn't heard from her had been unable to get a key code, so we were unsure whether we would even have a place to stay when we got there at midnight that night! The house was fine although over-stuffed and old fashioned - a rather musty first floor but still ok, and a second floor living area consisting of confusing slipcovered furnishings piled with pillows and knick-knacks, and two tables that made the space feela bit claustrophobic, although it was clean and in good order. The master bedroom and bath were very nice; if the entire house had been that way it would have been much better. Kitchen cabinets and drawers were crammed with massive quantities of dishes, glasses, silverware, pots and pans to a degree that made cooking and putting things away in their proper places a bit of a challenge. The outdoor rock garden was truly interesting, but because of it the only place to sit outside was either on the balcony (no dining table) or on the driveway, so eating outside wasn't in the cards. Still, it was essentially okay, but in the end, the thing that was most disappointing was that Myra kept our entire security deposit because her housekeeper had to do two extra loads of laundry, because although we had asked first (and gotten no response) we let our good friend spend one night on the sofa.

So I don't recommend renting this house, but I do recommend the area, the restaurants, and the town of St. Augustine.

Great Vacation!!!

  • 5 of 5

Myra - thank you so much for sharing your house with us. It was a joy to work with you before, during and after our vacation. We enjoyed every moment of our stay. Saint Augustine is fabulous - and Vilano Beach is even better! The house is great (you can hear the surf from the yard and deck) and the bed was honestly the best one I have run across during my travels! It was wonderful to find a pet friendly house in paradise!
