Great stay at Bear's Den!!! And AWESOME owner!!! (7/30-8/3)

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time staying at Bear's Den for 5 nights. (2 adults and 1 teen)

PROS: Fully stocked including towels, cleaning products, utensils, pots/pans. BEAUTIFUL VIEW!!!! even in the rain. Attentive owner (will explain below), very close to Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge. Comfortable and clean! Cable and internet (very important to know if you are the parent of a teen). Pool in complex. Laundry facility. Can easily accommodate a small family or 2 couples.

CON: Not REALLY a con but if you are concerned about driving up a mountain, you may want to just prepare yourself. Drive up the mountain was actually beautiful, we saw bears and really had no issues even at night and in rain. Again, just be aware! NOT A CON!!!

***On a side note, my husband left his wallet in the unit. The cleaner went in a couple of hours after we had checked out, called the owner (Tony) who in turn contacted us immediately. Unfortunately, we were two hours away. Tony arranged with the cleaner to have the wallet sent over night via USPS. What awesome, honest and super helpful people. You don't find that often. I highly recommend this unit for the pure fact you will be supporting Tony! ***

Average at best. Uncomfortable.

  • 2 of 5

We rented this unit for the week of July 4th. It was hot. The first two nights the unit was 80° with the thermostat set at 75°. After a little investigating I found that the A/C unit was freezing up. We turned the A/C off to allow it to thaw and reset the thermostat to 78° to allow it to gradually cool. It froze up again. I then cleaned the condenser coils as best as I could and replaced the filter. We finally got it to cool. Theese things happen, no big deal. The frustrating part was we couldn't open the windows at night because all of the screens were torn and flapping in the breeze. The temp would fall to 70° at night and we were stuck in a room at 80°. I had my mother and three little girls with me. It was very uncomfortable. I also am not a fan of the coin laundry. I hope this post was helpful.

Owner's Response: Unfortunately this is the first we heard of this issue. Note the renter stayed in early July and no notice or information was given until a month later. We wish that we had the opportunity to address the issue earlier, but we had no knowledge of the AC issue. Our Complex governs and controls any and all outside and structure issues and we will bring any and all issues if known to their attention. We appreciate the renter taking it upon themselves to try and resolve the issue. I may have been just a one time incident as we have had no reports or complaints with our HVAC.

Quality condo with an awesome view.

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time staying at the Bears Den condo. The view was well worth the money. One morning gave us a spectacular sunrise and one afternoon we were able to see a really cool rainbow. It was the first time I ever looked down at a rainbow. Condo was clean and had everything we needed and beds were comfortable. The condo could use a few minor repairs to window screens and blinds but I'm nitpicking. We attempted to use the pool at the complex but was way too cold for our liking. Hot tubs were nice though.

Nice view and very clean

  • 5 of 5

The only thing we did not enjoy is the bed. The matress was alittle on the hard side in the main bedroom (for us anyhow) and the sheets were pretty thin however everything else was great! Clean rooms, great view and the guy I spoke with (due to a email issue not on their part) was really friendly. We will definitely consider staying her again

Awesome views and sunrises.

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our time here. The drive up to the condo was fun and the view was spectacular. The condo was nice and clean but we had a few issues that made it less than perfect. The worst was the smoke detector chirping all of the sudden one night. Also the electric griddle does not work properly so our pancakes never cooked even though the griddle seemed hot. Last the Master King bed is the only comfortable bed. For the facility itself the condition of the hot tubs is some days they are hot others not. We were locked out of the game room too. But all that said I only mention it to help you decide to rent or not. We would go back to this unit. We had such a wonderful time at The Great Smoky Mountains National Park where every day we hiked the mountains. And the condo was comfortable enough to relax in afterwards. It had everything we needed and did not take away from our enjoyment.
