About Jim Howell

We are a large family who spent many years camping at Lake Michigan as our three children were growing up. Some of our very best memories include the sand and waves of Lake Michigan. Now the time we spend here includes our many grandchildren, friends and extended family as well and we are still making wonderful memories.

Jim Howell purchased this house in 2013

Why Jim Howell chose Silver Lake

This home is large enough for us all to be together in such a peaceful setting. There is always something to do and space enough for everyone to be comfortable. The only thing we like better than being together is being together at Lake Michigan. We enjoy sharing this home with others who love this Great Lake as much as we do.

Great view, great house, great weekend!

  • 5 of 5

This was our third stay at The Lake House. We come back every spring because the home works so well for our "Mom Getaways." Jim, the owner, is quick to respond to questions and wonderful to work with. The house has a gorgeous, unobstructed view of Lake Michigan. There are plenty of bedrooms and all the mattresses we've used are very comfortable. The kitchen has lots of counter space and new(er) stainless steel appliances. The pictures you see on this site accurately reflect the house which is not always the case. Our group has been doing these getaways for the last 12 years and there's a reason we keep coming back to this house. We give it and it's owners high praise!

Family wedding

  • 5 of 5

This was a perfect house for our four families with 6 children. We were in the area for our son's wedding and it was the right size for all of us. The beds were very comfortable, the kitchen had everything we needed and there were plenty of bathrooms for our size group. Sitting on the deck looking out at Lake Michigan at sunset was very nice. Wi-fi was excellent for such a large group. Working with the owner was easy and I am very happy to have found such a nice property.

Our new favorite vacation spot, for sure!

  • 5 of 5

We normally head south this time of year- to North Carolina. We rent a huge discounted house on the beach and enjoy the quiet. This year, due to various circumstances, we decided to go north. We chose this house completely blind- we knew nothing about Lake Michigan, this part of Michigan. We booked pretty much based on pictures and reviews. We were most certainly not disappointed. The drive was less than half of what it would have been to the ocean- with a toddler, that was great news! The house is everything you see in the pictures- and more! It is so warm and inviting- a truly cozy place to relax and enjoy family time. At night, tucked into a very comfortable bed, I could hear the surf breaking- just like at the ocean! Although the lake was so high we couldn't go down the steps, the accessible beach was about 5 houses away. We enjoyed our 2 mile (or so) walk on the beach- just like at the ocean, loved watching the cars and cycles on the dunes and the sunsets--- well, just magical! The neighbor was wonderful- invited my grandson to use their small sand area in their back yard for playtime. So many sweet little towns surrounding the area- we went on a tour at a dairy farm (and, of course at ice cream!,) shopped, visited with town people. Everyone is so friendly. My family went to the dunes and experienced the fun of riding the dunes. Later that day we went back and walked the dunes and were transported to a vast desert- so much fun to just let loose and climb the dunes, let the little one run to his heart's content. Although perhaps not the most fancy, gourmet kitchen we have experienced- we are a cooking family so easily were able to use everything provided to cook wonderful meals. Everything was clean and the basics were there. The bedrooms were very comfortable- plenty of beds- many more than our group of 7 needed and the bathrooms were completely adequate. The golf cart was a bonus, as well. The sunsets were so amazing- we have many photos - just kept taking pictures as we were so taken with the splendor of it all. The fire pit- just sitting in the yard and relaxing overlooking the lake- just perfect! We will most definitely return!

Great Family Vacation from Toddlers to Pre-Teens!

  • 5 of 5

Words cannot alone express how delighted we were to work with Jim and Maureen both before, during, and after our stay in their lovely home. We've rented quite a few homes through Homeaway and VRBO, and I have to admit this has been our most favorite. The entire Zamirowski clan were in attendance with 14 of us in the house! Six Grandkids aged 3 to 11 with parents and grandparents resided without any problems. The kids loved the 3rd floor dormitory set up and the adults had their own special queen sized bedrooms to relax and get away. The kitchen was well-outfitted with everything we needed. The only needed item was a grill brush which we purchased. The home's A/C worked extremely well. The first few days of our trip the weather was mild and we were able to open the house to the lake breezes. But mid-week the weather turned much warmer and humid and we were glad to have the A/C. The Association beach was great! The kids swam all the time and even went in off the steps adjacent to the lake house. Fortunately, the lake was warm and we all took full advantage. Be sure to check out Rainbow Stables for an awesome horseback riding experience. They do trails with knowledgeable guides. I hadn't been on a horse in at least 30 years and had no problem at all, even though my horse, Buck, got a little nervous along the trail. It was like riding a bike although I did this far better :). Also, try Tasty Creationz for ice cream and MacWoods Dune Rides for an incredible Dune ride! It's well worth the $! Go early! We will definitely be back to the Howell's lake house in the future. Everyone in the family raved about it and said it was the best vacation yet! Thank you, Jim and Maureen for opening your lovely home to us! Until next time!

Great Winter Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

What an outstanding home for a getaway with friends! House was very clean, but not to the point you don't feel like you can relax & let the kids have fun too. We had 3 families- all parents on 2nd floor in VERY comfortable beds, kids all on 3rd floor in a great group room (and a TV/DVD for kids movie time!). View from lakeside rooms is dramatic- especially on a windy winter day, just beautiful.

Kitchen is very well stocked, right down to slow cooker, blender, coffee maker and hot water kettle. Great open main level for cooking, games at the table, reclining by the fireplace (and watching the game on the flat screen...which can be closed behind doors- love that!)..all at the same time. Great collection of dvds- something for all, and games too. Downstairs Wii was also enjoyed, as was the washer/dryer for wet clothes from playing in the snow.

Great proximity to walking on the frozen dunes, hiking in the snowy woods, and even finding places to sled on old trails amongst the trees. Owner was easy to work with, very responsive, and seemed to genuinely appreciate our enjoyment of their home and location. Great place to rejuvenate and enjoy friends- thank you!
