The Hideaway **Cozy New Home/Cabin Tucked Away in the Mountains**

Wonderful! 4.9/5 -
(41 traveler reviews)

Overview

Property Details

Updated: Dec 4, 2016
House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

NOTE: Due to the steepness of the gravel driveway to the house, you must have a 4 WD or rear-wheel drive vehicle to rent this property.

If you are looking for a get away in the middle of the woods with the amenities of a brand new house, then this is the place for you. Add in a great view and hiking outside your front door, The Hideaway makes for a great stay for anybody looking to get away from the city for awhile and relax. With aerial views of the Blue Ridge Mountains up to 50 miles, you can view multiple mountain ranges and peaks from the back deck including Mount Mitchell to the north and Grandfather Mountain to the northeast. Also, only 30-45 minutes from Asheville, Black Mountain, and Hendersonville, shopping, dining, and nightlife are not far away. The town of Chimney Rock (shopping), Chimney Rock State Park (hiking), and Lake Lure (swimming/boating), are located 15-20 minutes away. For reference, The Hideaway is an approximate 30 minute drive from I-40 (via Hwy 9) and I-26 (via Hwy 64).

Situated at ~ 3,200 feet above sea level, The Hideaway was built in 2013 and is a cabin/modern home best suited for couples and small families. Making the most out of 1,050 sq ft, the cabin has 3 bedrooms (two gueen beds and 1 full bed), a living room, a full kitchen, and a dining area. The two queen bedrooms are upstairs and share a full bathroom with shower. The full bedroom is the smallest and located downstairs next to a full bathroom with shower. There is a wrap around deck that goes from the front of the house and around the side to a large deck on the back of the house. Sit on the back deck in the Adirondack chairs, go for a hike, or watch cable satellite TV, all are possible during your stay. The house is located on a 5-acre wooded lot within an undeveloped subdivision. Surrounding the property are hundreds of acres of forest and over a mile of dirt roads/trails (shared by all subdivision property owners) on which to hike and enjoy the outdoors. Birdwatchers will definitely want to bring their binoculars as you never know what you may see. A snowy owl, a rare migrant to southern forests, was observed Thanksgiving weekend 2013 off the back deck.

There is not a telephone at the house so you will need a cell phone. I know Verizon cell phones work good, but I am not sure about other carriers. Also, the house is not wired for internet (does not have WiFi) so your mobile device must be capable of a wireless signal connection to access the internet.

No pets are allowed. Please make sure you review the entire rental agreement prior to booking. Note: The cabin is closed to rentals from January 3rd to March 10th.

Ken,

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I will be sure to add more trash cans in the house. There is the one under the kitchen sink but I will put some in the bathrooms as well. Thanks for letting me know. Hope you can return soon.

Wonderful Autumn Stay At The Hideaway

  • 4 of 5

The view is fabulous and "The Hideaway" is tucked away in the beautiful woods of WNC. We especially loved the campfire area as the weather was perfect for sitting out and listening to the leaves blowing off of the trees. We enjoyed wonderful hikes in Montreat and Chimney Rock. The only things I would change are tiny. I would add curtains to the windows -- I know there's no one for miles and I would add a lamp by the bedside. Otherwise William's place is perfect for a nice getaway! William is very easy to be in touch with also. Thank you!

Wow...Awesome Cabin!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at The Hideaway the last weekend in October and the view from the property was absolutely amazing!! The leaves were near their peak and you could see for miles. The cabin is very secluded, but convenient to get to Black Mountain, Chimney Rock and Hendersonville. The cabin had a great kitchen with anything you needed but our favorite amenity was the fire pit! We would love to come back soon.

Owner's Response: Ana, Thanks for taking the time to write and your kind words. I'm so glad you and your husband enjoyed your stay and liked it so much to recommend it or even come stay again. Secluded Hideaway to get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

First off, I want to talk about the driveway. My girlfriend and I only have 2wd cars. We really wanted to stay here and messaged the owner if we could pull it off with a car. He said as long as you park at the top of Drop Off Dr, don't try to drive down it. We made the reservation, and drove out. This is at the Black Mountain exit off of I-40, and is about a 30 minute drive from that point to get to the driveway. Definitely go up there before dark so you don't miss the roads. Once we got there, we parked at the top of Drop Off Dr, walked out and looked down the driveway. After that, I set the parking brake to make sure my car wouldn't roll down. The driveway is at such a steep angle, I don't know how they built the house or how anything got down there. Don't drive down it unless you've got a really, really good 4wd vehicle or just want to get towed back up it. It looks like a 60 degree angle or close to it, and from the top it's about 800 feet down and around a curve to get to the house. We carried our stuff down the hill, turned the corner and fell in love.

The cabin is gorgeous and secluded, you have no neighbors at all. Way across in the mountains at night you'll see a couple of dim lights, but if you get a fire going at night and sit out there, you feel like there's nobody else in the world. You can see plenty of stars and it's so peaceful. Verizon phone service works out there but not tmobile, and i recommend just putting your phones away and enjoying the view. From the deck and one of the upstairs rooms you have an amazing view of the mountains. The other two bedrooms, one on the first floor and one upstairs have views of the forest. Not quite as exciting but very private as well. There's plenty of wood around for building a fire, and we had fun doing that both nights we stayed.

Asheville isn't too far away, and is such a wonderful little town. I come out to Asheville at least once a year now if I can get away, and love to come for the French Broad Chocolate Lounge and liquid truffles. But now I have a new reason to come back, and highly recommend staying out here and enjoying the mountains. The only thing missing is a hot tub to really enhance the experience, but we relaxed and had a great time.

A True Hideaway

  • 5 of 5

The hideaway was totally off the grid--- no cell service for us or wifi. Full cable so we were still able to watch college football. No bathtub or hottub which would have been nice after all the hiking but great water pressure and heat in the shower stalls. The hideaway allowed us to go out and hike and be social but also the opportunity to come back and just be alone--- no neighbors, car sounds, or anything--- just nature. The stars at night were amazing. The kitchen was fully stocked with essentials as well as common spices and condiments. I totally forgot coffee filters but found some in the kitchen--- thank you for that! I strongly second William's instruction to come during daylight hours... and to have a 4WD/AWD vehicle. We have a Subaru and the drive was fun getting back to the Hideaway but I could see it being a bit dicey on the driveway if you didn't have an appropriate vehicle. Be sure to get some Duraflame-type logs for the indoor fireplace and enjoy the amazing views!

Thanks again for our great stay. We will definitely be back!

The View is Well Worth The Drive!

  • 4 of 5

I have never seen a more beautiful view than the one we experienced at the hideaway. Everything from the adirondack chairs on the porch, to the gorgeous windows on every floor--- everything was modern inside, minimalist and SO clean upon arrival. If i had to say anything that we had a negative experience with (it was really our own fault) but i would say that 4 wheel drive is a requirement. Even with no rain at all, we had a lot of trouble getting up the hill in our SUV. Our SUV didn't have 4WD, and although we did see the warning online about 4WD being advised, we assumed we would be ok. However, that being said, if you plan to stay here, please consider 4WD a requirement and take the online heads-up as a definite...not just a 'recommendation' or as a precautionary advice. it would take us SEVERAL tries to try and leave the cabin and made us a little panicky. Aside from that, our stay could NOT Have been more perfect! A great find for a perfect girls weekend! We LOVED it!!!

Owner's Response: Olivia, Thanks so much for taking the time to write. I'm happy to hear you enjoyed your stay and that the cabin met your expectations. Hope you will return! William P.S. Just to clarify, the rental websites do state that 4WD or AWD is necessary and required. Rear wheel drive vehicles can also get up the driveway as well. GOOD NEWS though: I plan on paving the steep part of the driveway soon so that all vehicles and guests can stay!
