The Hideaway - Cozy New Cabin Tucked Away in the Mountains **Now with WiFi**

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,050 sq ft
Property type house
Minimum Stay 2 - 3 nights

About the property

House, 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 6 Sleeps

NOTE: Due to the steepness of the gravel driveway to the house, you need a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle to rent this property. If you desire, you can park your car at the top of the driveway which is ~ 800 feet from the house and walk to the house.

If you are looking for a get away in the middle of the woods with the amenities of a new house, then this is the place for you. Add in a great view and hiking outside your front door, The Hideaway makes for a great stay for anybody looking to get away from the city for awhile and relax. With aerial views of the Blue Ridge Mountains up to 50 miles, you can view multiple mountain ranges and peaks from the back deck including Mount Mitchell to the north and Grandfather Mountain to the northeast. Also, only 30-45 minutes from Asheville, Black Mountain, and Hendersonville, shopping, dining, and nightlife are not far away. The town of Chimney Rock (shopping), Chimney Rock State Park (hiking), and Lake Lure (swimming/boating), are located 15-20 minutes away. For reference, The Hideaway is an approximate 30 minute drive from I-40 (via Hwy 9) and I-26 (via Hwy 64).

Situated at ~ 3,200 feet above sea level, The Hideaway was built in 2013 and is a cabin/modern home best suited for couples and small families. Making the most out of 1,050 sq ft, the cabin has 3 bedrooms (two gueen beds and 1 full bed), a living room, a full kitchen, and a dining area. The two queen bedrooms are upstairs and share a full bathroom with shower. The full bedroom is the smallest and located downstairs next to a full bathroom with shower. There is a wrap around deck that goes from the front of the house and around the side to a large deck on the back of the house. Sit on the back deck in the Adirondack chairs, go for a hike, watch cable satellite TV, or surf the internet, all are possible during your stay. The house is located on a 5-acre wooded lot within an undeveloped subdivision. Surrounding the property are hundreds of acres of forest and over a mile of dirt roads/trails (shared by all subdivision property owners) on which to hike and enjoy the outdoors. Birdwatchers will definitely want to bring their binoculars as you never know what you may see. A snowy owl, a rare migrant to southern forests, was observed Thanksgiving weekend 2013 off the back deck.

New for year 2018, The Hideaway now has Wi-Fi!! You and your guests can enjoy free internet access from your mobile devices/computers during your stay. NOTE: There is not a telephone at the house so you will need a cell phone. I know Verizon cell phones work good, but I am not sure about other carriers.

No pets are allowed. Please make sure you review the entire rental agreement prior to booking.

I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I will be sure to add more trash cans in the house. There is the one under the kitchen sink but I will put some in the bathrooms as well. Thanks for letting me know. Hope you can return soon.

A wonderful place away from it all.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I were looking to get away from the daily grind and stress of work. The Hideaway was the perfect place for that! The house was clean and very comfortable. The view was amazing and the quiet, with just the sound of the birds, was peaceful and relaxing. We spent most of our time sitting on the deck reading or relaxing but did take a couple trips to visit the local sites, like Lake Lure and the falls at Chimney Rock. You definitely need a 4wheel or all wheel drive to make the trip up the mountain to the house but it surely is worth it when you get up there!

Incredible Views!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I spent a long weekend in this awesome cabin! It was very neat, clean and cozy! We used the fire pit 2 nights and the indoor fireplace one day. We cooked most of our meals and enjoyed the views from the deck - they were awesome! The directions were perfect and the road was steep but easily traveled in our 4-wheel drive Toyota 4-Runner. It was very private and so quiet - an incredible get-away.

Beautiful hideaway!

  • 5 of 5

We had a few days of Spring Break left after dropping one of our sons off for basic training. This was the perfect place to be with our one child left at home, play monopoly and card games, build a fire and for mom to sit on the porch looking over the mountains worrying about her boy. We are an adventurous crew so we LOVED the driveway! The owner was quick to respond to any questions. We had a great time.

Clean. Perfect views. Great layout. Definitely off the beaten path !

If you want to enjoy mountain drives, this is the place! We can’t say enough good about the house or the surrounding area! Super close to Chimney Rock and Lake Lure and not very far from downtown Asheville and Blue Ridge Parkway (craggy point is AWESOME). If you were debating between this and another cabin rental...stop. THIS IS IT!

Great little place on secluded Mountain side with awesome views.

  • 5 of 5

I must say that my wife and I had a great time at this cabin. It is clean and the heater is super strong. It got around 25 a few days and we never felt cold with the heater only running for a few moments. The fireplace was great too. The beds upstairs are a little bigger then the downstairs bed and the couch pulls out if needed. The deck out back was awesome to hang out on and we really enjoyed watching the clouds roll through the mountains. This spot has amazing views of the surrounding mountains as you can see in the photos. I give this place 5 stars because it was everything we wanted for the price. My only issues were the extra driving time getting in and off the mountain. I expected 10 minutes, but its more like 25 to get to route 9, and the showers are a little small for a big guy like me. I don't think we will come back to this cabin because of the road in. But hey, we made the best of it and made some great memories.

For the Road in and out: We arrived at 4pm on a cold foggy day and it took us some extra time to find the house. The house is located down a dirt road that turns into a forest road made up mostly of leaves and pebbles. There are signs leading the way in the forest, but tough to see at night time. The owner is right to mention the need for 4 wheel drive or all-wheel drive for the accent and decent from the mountain. My wife was really nervous the first time we drove down to the house and back up to leave, but by the 3rd day we were flying up the mountain and sliding down the mountain with ease. I say sliding because the ABS did all it could to keep me in control.

If you are planning a trip into Asheville daily, then expect about an hour each way, if not more. We learned that taking 64 to Hendersonville and then north to Asheville was the same amount of time as taking 74 or Route 9 north, 64 is a straightaway and safe road compared to the other options.

Advice to the owner, place some larger signs through the woods, properly grade the slope of the hill so the incline isn't so steep, the last turn to the left before you go down the hill has a built-up edge and tire ruts that really tore up my bumpers everytime I drove over it.

Owner's Response: Kevin, I appreciate the 5-star rating and your positive comments, but I don't appreciate the negative false information you also provided. For future renters that may be reading this, I am providing the following responses to the inaccuracies stated in his review: 1.) From the house down to Hwy 9, it is ~ 10 min for the average driver; 2.) If you have an AWD/four-wheel drive vehicle, you will not be sliding down any of the roads. You will be just fine; 3.) Hwy 74 is the quickest and most direct route into Asheville and it takes ~ 45 minutes to center city for the average driver; 4.) I cannot place signs on other people's property. All you have to do is follow the directions provided; 5.) Regarding his comment about grading, he obviously doesn't understand the challenges and cost of earthwork and grading in the mountains; and 6.) The ruts he is referring to must be the drainage ditches alongside the road which obviously you are not supposed to drive in. I've never known any of the access roads to contain ruts large enough to damage a car. The built up edge he refers to is the natural slope of the land where it meets the road and nobody should ever come close to hitting it. -William
