About the property

House, 2 Bedrooms, 2 Baths, 5 Sleeps

Not a condo scene!! 3 night or longer rental only. No more than one month rental at a time. This beautiful free standing cottage (actually a duplex next to the Crescent Moon#7018132) is nestled quietly away one block from a pristine, white sand beach in Historical Butler Beach, Florida. It has as beautiful private, gated, small maintained back yard. The home is completely furnished. There is a washer/dryer, internet/wifi, Direct TV, and all usual appliances including a dishwasher. Many appliances to make you feel like you could cook about anything! I have tastefully decorated and maintained the house. Views are unobstructed into the back yard from the large living area. It is very private and quiet. All is on ground level with a small step up to the front and back door. Grab bars in the 2 bathrooms for safety. The beach is a one block stroll with no major streets to cross as the apartment is east of A1A. Historical St. Augustine, the oldest town in the United States, is a 10 minute car ride with restaurants, shopping and site seeing tours. There are also restaurants right there in the area of the apartment as well. Located just one block across A1A is a wonderful boat ramp in if you wish to bring a boat or kayaks. You launch free from there. For anyone who needs at least a month to get away monthly rentals are also available. The Crescent Moon (a 1/1 cottage ) is in the front of the Ooo Laa Laaah but all is private and quiet. The HE Maytag washer dryer is shared with the Crescent Moon. Comfortable beds and furniture. I work hard to make your stay perfect. Great deal for those who love the quiet and are having trouble finding a nice place to vacation with their pets. A limit of 2 pets at the Ooo Laa Laaah.

About Martie McLean

I'm 67 years old and I live in Ocala, Florida. I have rented the front of the property for 6 years and have had fantastic reviews through other vacation websites. I also have a rental at Dekle Beach Florida (vacationrentals #7040694)

that keeps me busy during scalloping season. I take great pride in my beautiful places and am very responsive to any of our guests' needs. I do not live locally but can be there in 2 hours. I have a team of folks that help me with any issues you may encounter. I am available by phone but especially by email. The lovely apartment is tastefully decorated and fully furnished. I want nothing more than for you to have a wonderful time at Ooo Laa Laaah and the Crescent Moon.

Why Martie McLean chose St. Augustine Area

Just loved the backyard and the house. The beach is my favorite and private and eco friendly. Pets are welcome, too.

What makes this house unique

Pet friendly, quiet and NOT the condo scene.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We love the  0oo Laa Laaah the two weeks we were there. The place was beautiful and we had lots of room. Our daughter came down for a few days and she had plenty of room. The big back yard was the best place for the boys (our dogs). Our Louie wanted to stay in it all the time. The other ones enjoyed it, too. I did not have very far to walk to the beach. I walk with a cane so I was able to walk down every day. We also love the Crescent Moon (the unit up front). We have no complaint about either place, nor the price. Just trying to figure out if we can stay longer next year.

Butler Beach

  • 3 of 5

WE enjoyed our stay in your cottage and in Butler Beach/St Augustine, but would recommend a few changes for future occupants, esp seniors. The furniture is at the end of its lifecycle in terms of comfort. My husband and I both have "back" issues and need firm support for sitting. There is none of that in the cottage. The beds are good, very firm and supportive. The dishwasher was not working and the cottage appeared to be dusty. Overall, the location was great for beach access, city of St Augustine, lots of good restaurants, easy access to major highways and A1A. Very cute little cottage with great possibilities.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your input. . The recliner is very firm and the Ethan Allen couch with its bench seat, is very firm for most. Nonetheless, I have taken your review and comments to heart and I have purchased new furniture. If you had called, I would have sent my housekeeper over to dust. The dishwasher and water heater are one year old but I will have a serviceman come out. The beds are brand new and I am glad you approved of them.

Roomy and well appointed with a short walk to the beach.

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I really enjoyed our stay. It was so relaxing and peaceful. The property was clean and well maintained. The central air was great. The rental had plenty of room and my brother was able to come and stay a couple of nights with us. We had a great visit. It was wonderful having the fenced back yard for Sadie our aging black lab. There was a great selection of music for us to enjoy. We met Martie, the owner during our stay and were able to check out her rental The Crescent Moon in the event we would like to stay there sometime.

The walk to the beach was pleasant and short. My husband loves turtles of all kinds and we kept a daily watch on two tortoises that lived in the dunes at the beach access. Butler Beach was really big and absolutely beautiful. We purchased bikes to ride after seeing folks riding on the beach. It was great fun. We enjoyed several of the nearby restaurants such as Viola's, the Red Frog and the South Beach Grill. We visited Old Town, Washington Oaks Park and Fort Matanzas just to name a few. The grocery store was just a short drive as well as various other shops.

We would recommend the Oh La La to anyone that wants a quiet and convenient place at the beach.

Best week at the beach

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute trip for my family and Martie was quick to respond and get us booked. The location is perfect. It's a short walk to the beach (less than a block) so it's easy to grab your beach chairs and enjoy the surf. We would spend a couple hours on the beach, do some sight seeing and then come back and enjoy nightly walks on the beach. Getting up to see the sunrise is a must. The area is very quiet. No hotels anywhere just condo's, duplexes and private homes. It's very dog friendly including the beach. The surf shops are within 2-3 miles and the historic area of St. Augustine is 20 minutes away. The house itself was cute and very comfortable for four of us and a dog. The kitchen is well equipped so we didn't have to eat out much. The backyard is large enough to allow our dog to roam and chase the lizards. Martie was quick to respond to any questions. We plan to come back again.

Comfortable family beach house!

  • 5 of 5

Our family was looking for a relaxing, leisure, lazy vacation, and Martie's beach house was perfect. Martie was the perfect hostess. She provided everything we needed for our stay and made herself available if there were any concerns. The home was spacious enough for a family of 4, and the beach was a block away for walks. We went fishing, shopping, and out to eat a few nights. We enjoy the downtown historic area in the evenings, and the restaurants were wonderful. Everything we needed was close to the home. We got the vacation we were looking for and plan to go back!

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for the 5 star review! The neighborhood does have many little restaurants in the area. Of course, St. Augustine is so much fun and the food is fantastic in many of the restaurants. I think the Ooo Laa Laaah was perfect for your needs.

Close to beach, great owner, and dog friendly!

  • 4 of 5

This was a wonderful cottage to stay in. It was quiet and a short walk to the beach without having to cross any highways. Martie was a great owner. She responded to my questions quickly and made sure we had everything we needed. Even though we were on vacation, my husband had to get a little school work done, so we were glad there was Wi-Fi - thank you! We ate at a place called Red Frog & MacToad's that was just down the street - you could walk to take a very short drive. Very yummy - great teriyaki rice and great shrimp tacos. The beach was fairly empty for the most part - dog friendly - make sure to keep on a leash and carry some doggie bags with you for clean up. We were there during the time that tropical storm Colin was coming through, so we were indoors for the most part due to the rain and storm. We ended up playing some UNO and watching a bit of TV to pass the time. Everything was really great. The absolute only complaint that I have are the beds. We tried sleeping in the master bedroom the first night and the bed is extremely high. For instance, I am 5ft tall and the bed seemed to be close to 3.5 - 4 ft high off the ground. It was very firm. If you like a firm bed, then this one is for you. The next night my husband and I tried to sleep in the spare bedroom. That one was bit too soft, as we would roll into each other in the middle of the bed. As I said, this is my only complaint. The location is great, the cottage is cute as a button, and the owner is super friendly and quick to respond. Thanks so much for allowing us to stay here! We would love to return! PS - our dog absolutely enjoyed his first time to the beach - he slept like a log! :)

Owner's Response: Hi, Lauren, thank you for the four star review. I took your review to heart and purchased new mattresses for both beds. They are still firm but I have 2" foam for anyone who would like a bit of soft on the top. I also changed the high up bed to a low profile foundation. It is 4" lower now. Thank you. Martie

Wonderful Vacation Cottage

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place located in a nice area and community. It is located just one block from the beach with many accesses to the beach. The backyard is perfect for the dogs and very private. The house was clean and very nicely decorated. We loved every minute in this cottage. A great restaurant is just a few minutes down the road from the cottage that has a nice back deck and is dog friendly. Perfect all the way around.
