Cozy, great location!
We loved this property!! We had everything we needed, the hosts answered promptly and the town was so peaceful and quiet for fall!
A delightful weekend retreat.
The cottage is a delightful weekend retreat with quaint features that surprised me and made me smile. The very modern kitchen provided everything needed for home cooks or families who wanted to cook and eat at home. The laundry facilities are excellent. We walked down to the local bar for our evening meal. We then walked to the excellent breakfast place, The Porch and Pantry for our breakfast. Some reviewers mentioned that the cottage creaks and has thin walls. Those features are all part of the charming aspect of the holiday. The beds were comfortable and matched the quaint cottage atmosphere, but they were basic compared with the many cottages I rent in Great Britain.
Mount Gretna was central to our family visits to Lancaster and to Harrisburg, being only just twenty minutes drive to each. As a quiet get away, I would be happy just to walk or cycle in the local area and leave the car parked outside the cottage. We had flown in from England to meet my son his wife in Philadelphia, so the cottage in the Appalachians foothills proved to be a nice break for us all.
A Gem in the forest
We have never rented someone elses home but we will do it again if they are all as great as this house. The house was in great condition and updated to a more current time but still showed its early 1900 time. Mt Gretna is a small, quiet and private housing community. Perfect environment to relax and enjoy time with friends
Cute house in nice location
We visited with our three young children and one other adult to spend Labor Day weekend in Hershey Park. We didn’t know how cute mt gretna was and was pleasantly surprised by the location! House was adorable and well stocked. Homes are close together, however, and we have early rising kids and a tantruming toddler which was a bit stressful as we didn’t want to disturb the neighbors. Jiggers ice cream shop was a must do (churro sundae made my night!) Mt gretna pizza place wasn’t too great. We walked to a jazz concert one night. I do feel like the house could have been a bit cleaner as we found ants on the counter and spilled cereal on the floor upon arrival from previous tenants. Area under beds was quite dirty which we discovered by looking for a lost paci. We couldn’t figure out how to work the cable but the wii was nice. Kitchen was stocked with pepper but not salt. Bring a baby gate for the stair bottoms or gate young children in a room as steps are funky.
Otherwise, it was a great visit! Approximately 30 minutes from Hershey Park.
Old quaint different.
The house is small and old. The location is quaint and different. Over all we enjoyed our stay. We went to Hersey Park (30 minutes) the 2 days we were there. So the House was more just to sleep in. If we needed to spend a lot of time at the house it may have become challenging(3 adults 3 children) All rooms were small and all walls were paper thin. There is no privacy inside or out. The house is in a very unique location, more of a commune type place. Different from anything I’ve seen before. The kitchen and bathrooms were very nice and updated with good quality linens.
Perfect location for time in Pennsylvania Dutch Country
This property was perfect for two adults and two teenage children and in the perfect location for a three day tour of Pennsylvania Dutch Country. We did Hersheypark one day, an Amish tour in Bird-in-Hand another day and a lot of driving around to take in the beautiful countryside. I had no idea that the house was a part of the Mt. Gretna Campmeeting which is listed in the national register of historic places. The campmeeting alone is a reason to stay here. It is such a pleasant and relaxing environment and all of the homes are unique and interesting to walk around and look at. The house has a cottage feel, very relaxing and very rustic. Despite the proximity of the house to the other houses, it is so quiet within the campmeeting and everyone is so respectful of their surroundings. The kitchen has just about everything you'll need from a tool perspective but not necessarily leftover things like salt or sugar or tin foil. Bring those things if they are important for what you're doing. I had an array of spices left behind by someone else, but no salt for example. No big deal. The mattresses, pillows and towels are as rustic as the house so if you're looking for a luxury night sleep, you probably won't get it, but you're in a cottage in the woods so adjust your expectations. All of the instructions you receive prior to your arrival are comprehensive and there were no problems whatsoever finding the property, getting in or using the house.
