Great location

  • 4 of 5

Location is just a couple blocks from all the restaurants and shops. Oval Beach is a 10' drive away. The interior of the house is very inviting and has plenty of sleeping space w 2 bedrooms down and 2 up plus an extra room w sofa and trundle bed. The main kitchen is upstairs. There is no functioning grill outside and none of the windows open for fresh air. Other than that, we certainly enjoyed our stay!!

I recommend.

Great location, set up well for multiple families, expensive.

  • 2 of 5

We had a nice time, the place is perfectly located, and while the rent is very high, we had two families splitting it so it wasn't terrible. Smarter people will shop around, there are dozens of rental properties available nearby for less.

Pros: Location is great, the house is split with a nice large kitchen and two BRs upstairs, and a kitchenette with two BRs down. One block to restaurants and shops in Saugatuck and a five minute drive to Oval Beach.

Cons: Price is high, property wasn't well cared for, absentee landlord. No grill (we left one for the next guests -- you're welcome) and broken screens. Only one key was available. There is also what looks like an old coi pond that breeds mosquitos. Dishwasher and laundry didn't work. Oh, and no wi-fi, so don't believe the listing description.

Biggest complaint? We had some mystery workmen arrive unannounced, who were rude and refused to identify themselves, strolled in like they owned the place and ignored our questions. ??? Called Amanda to inquire, voice mail was full, still waiting to hear from her, lol. Typical, as she was not very responsive before, during or after our stay, although she cashed the checks promptly. Customer service rating: no stars.

If you want to spend top-dollar, this place is fine. We'll shop around and look for a better place next time, preferably one with an owner who cares about her guests' experience.

Plenty of Room

  • 5 of 5

This was a planned getaway with siblings for a weeks vacation. This home had plenty of room for my large family and a nice shady yard area. Our stay was comfortable, clean and so close to the main Saugatuck downtown area, we could walk to everything!!

This is a great location as it is the end of a main street and very quiet when we wanted that as well!! Sitting on the front porch having coffee every morning with my brother and sisters was "priceless!" I would definitely go back!! I would highly recommend this home .

A number of scenic city parks - two of them adorned by Victorian style gazebos - dot the riverside. They are unhurried spots where you can spend the day picnicking, reading or watching the sailboats slip by.

An old-fashioned sternwheeler shuttles passengers on tours of the river and along the Lake Michigan shoreline. These water-bound excursions are punctuated by cottages, extravagant homes, forests, wetlands, a panorama of dunes and the Ghost Town of Singapore.

Visitors can enjoy an even more leisurely boat ride by hopping aboard North America's only hand-cranked chain ferry for a trip across the river or board a WWII 'Duck' that provides ferry service between Saugatuck and Douglas. Strolling along a winding boardwalk offers another impression of the river - homeport to some 900 yachts and sailboats. Anglers can charter boats to go after salmon, trout, pike and perch. Those who want to make their own waves can rent boats, kayaks, jetskis, pontoons or charter sailboats or yachts.

Back on dry land, the adventuresome can climb 282 steps to the top of the Mt. Baldhead sand dune. For their heart-pounding effort climbers are rewarded with a stunning bird's-eye view of the harbor and lake below. Another aerial view is in store for visitors who take a freewheeling ride on a converted pick-up truck, known as a 'dune schooner', across some of the towering sand hills. Back on level ground, the area has one private taxi service plus the Interurban bus. Both offer visitors hassle-free, door-to-door transportation. Golfers can hit the links at three 18-hole championship golf courses, one designed by golfing legend Arnold Palmer.

For arts enthusiasts the area boasts more than 35 art galleries, a chamber music festival and is host to the Waterfront Film Festival each June - ranked 3rd after Sundance and Cannes by Screen Actors Guild Magazine. Mason Street Warehouse professional theatre company presents Broadway-quality 'uptown theatre in downtown Saugatuck' at the Saugatuck Center for the Arts throughout the season. The SCA, itself, also sponsors year 'round professional productions, as well as The Children's Film Festival in November and a Farmers Market on Fridays. The Red Barn Playhouse highlights local talent, community theatre and a film study series. Both arts venues provide numerous opportunities for hands-on creativity, lectures, concerts and other artistic programs.
