Cute place with a beautiful deck!

  • 4 of 5

We loved the cottage. It is very cozy and has a well equipped kitchen, washer dryer, a/c, a huge deck and beautiful private beach. I agree with the other reviewer who didn't like the sheer curtains and lack of blinds or shades for privacy. Yes, it is in the woods, but there are 2 roads that pass very close to the house and the owners windows look into the bedroom windows.

Owner's Response: IN RESPONSE TO THIS REVIEW REGARDING THE TWO STREETS THAT PASS BY THE HOUSE. ONE IS ON THE SIDE OF THE HOUSE THAT ONLY HAS A KITCHEN WINDOW WHICH IS COVERED BY CURTAINS. AND THE OTHER IS ON THE FRONT SIDE THAT ONLY HAS A KITCHEN DOOR WITH CURTAINS AND THE BATHROOM WINDOW WHICH ALSO HAS CURTAINS. SO THERE IS NO PRIVACY ISSUES WITH THESE WINDOW. THE BACK OF THE HOUSE HAS LARGE WINDOWS AND DECK BUT THEY OPEN TO THE VIEW OF THE LAKE--NO PEOPLE. AND LAST WINDOW IN BEDROOM OPENS TO A DRIVEWAY & WINDOWS WHICH OVERLOOKS THE OWNERS HOUSE NEXT DOOR WHICH HAS A FULL CURTAIN AND IS LOWER THAN THE RENTAL HOUSE. SO THEREFORE SINCE THIS GUEST WAS HERE WITH HER MOTHER AND 4 YEAR OLD CHILD, IT IS DIFFICULT TO UNDERSTAND THE DISLIKE FOR LACK OF CURTAINS. THE HOUSE SITS ON A VERY QUIET DEAD END ROAD WITH HARDLY NO PEOPLE OR CARS. A GREAT QUIET RETREAT.

A "Gem" of a place to truly relax and unwind!

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I wanted to go somewhere that was waterfront and private for our "33rd" Wedding Anniversary. This place is truly a "gem"! Bob and Ann are warm, wonderful, friendly people! We felt like we had known them for years after just meeting them! They are right in the cottage nearby, and do have to use the downstairs area of the cottage the rental is in for a few things, but their time downstairs is brief and quiet and we hardly even heard them! The upstairs of the cottage you stay in is totally private from the downstairs area that they use. Most of the time they are in their own private and separate place nearby., and are very respectful of your desire for privacy! Bob gave us a wonderful tour of the lake in his boat, and they also made their row boat and floats available to us as well! The Lake is "pristine clean", warm and beautiful! We enjoyed the private beach there and just relaxing on the very large deck that is just private for guests to use! The cottage itself is beautifully updated with sliding glass doors looking out on the deck and lake from the living area and the bedroom is very large with a huge picture window overlooking the deck and lake! The absolute only thing I would suggest to Ann and Bob is to put blinds or shades on the side windows of the bedroom and in the bathroom as the curtains are very sheer! Otherwise, our stay was perfect and very relaxing!

Owner's Response: ALL OF OUR GUESTS HAVE ENJOYED THEIR STAY SO MUCH THAT THEY HAVE TOLD US THEY WILL BE BACK NEXT SUMMER. WE MADE MANY GOOD FRIENDS THIS YEAR INCLUDING LISA AND DAN. OUR HOME SITS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE WOODS WITH NO NEIGHBORS CLOSE BY SO I GUESS WE NEVER THOUGHT ABOUT WINDOW TREATMENTS, SUCH AS SHADES OR BLINDS. BUT WE WILL TAKE LISA'S SUGGESTION UNDER CONSIDERATION.

Lakefront escape

  • 5 of 5

Living in NYC, we wanted an escape. Our dream home was simple: less than half a day's drive, a one-bed, one-floor lakefront home. We searched properties in NY, PA, MA & CT. The North Stonington property was our dream actualized!

The owners, Ann & Bob, are incredibly knowledgeable of the area (a welcome packet with restaurants and area attractions was waiting for us upon our arrival) and incredibly accommodating and welcoming! I never felt like I was intruding when the odd question surfaced during our stay.

The property was EXACTLY as advertised, incredibly clean and welcoming. Because Ann & Bob live next door, I felt safe and secure with leaving the front door open for a cross breeze (a rare treat) and felt like the integrity of my privacy was maintained. (I don't walk around naked, but the window treatments are sheer.)

Being that the property is in a rural area of CT, bugs outnumber humans greatly. But I NEVER saw one bug in the property. Around the property and near the lake, we saw our fair share of spiders, mega ants, bees, wasps, dragonflies, fishes, and even a snake!

I highly HIGHLY recommend the North Stonington property to anyone who wants to escape the hustle and bustle of city life for the hustle and bustle of singing crickets and cicadas!
