This vacation home was updated with the vacation renter in mind. Other amenities include large beach towels, beach chairs, coolers, hair dryer, printer (for lap top etc), lots of board games and a small collection of books. Feel free to take or leave any book you would like.

About Ron and Sharie Holben

Your Hosts: Ron and Sharie Holben. We live in Sturgis Michigan and are retired from the drinking water and water well industry. For 7 years we had a vacation home in Wawa, Ontario Canada. About 4 hours north of Michigan's upper peninsula. We had 200' of pristine lakefront, sandy beach and clear water. We were entirely off the grid, no power, no phone no Internet. Ah paradise.

In the spring of 2013 we decided it was time for a change. We sold the cabin and the search began for the perfect southern vacation home. We looked in Florida, Texas and several other States.

We decided on Port Charlotte for it's proximity to the gulf, all the activities in the area, and terrific weather year round. The bonus was having restaurants and shopping so close and amazing neighbors, in an extremely quiet residential neighborhood.

Ron and Sharie Holben purchased this house in 2014

Why Ron and Sharie Holben chose Port Charlotte

This is the perfect property, if you want quiet relaxation with your own private pool and dock on a salt water canal. And.... you also want to be close to all the shops and restaurants. You can have it all. Plus, we are only about 20 minutes from the gulf beaches

What makes this house unique

We have just started to discover all the area has to offer. We hope you will fall in love with Port Charlotte and the Gulf Islands, as we did and enjoy exploring the uncrowded beaches, quaint shops and excellent dining.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We had a very relaxing week at Idle Days. The house was very comfortable and VERY clean!!! It had great space, but easy to keep picked-up. The shower was amazing, love the water pressure. We saw many things in the area - including the drums at sunset at Venice Beach. Great shopping and places to eat in the area and close to anything else you would like to see or do. We floated in the pool everyday and enjoyed watching for fish in the canal. Already looking ahead to next year - Sharie and Ron were Great to work with!!!

Excellent Property

  • 5 of 5

From booking the property and during our stay Sharie and Ron could not have been more helpful. Excellent communication always. The property itself cannot be faulted everything you need is there and is in perfect condition. Mention must be made of the very comfortable large bed. We enjoyed most of our meals in the lanai which is very nicely furnished and the pool, which we swam in twice a day, was warm. We enjoyed walking down the garden and sitting by the canal for our coffee in the morning and something a little more alcoholic in the evenings. We chose only to eat out a couple of times because our preference was to use the bbq in the evenings. Mention must be made of all the wonderful wildlife. We saw on several occasions an alligator in the canal - it was always the same one because unfortunately it had a large hook in the side of its mouth. Seeing a manatee was very special. Mention must be made of all the birds - Eddie the egret, another egret which others and ourselves called green beak, a blue heron and a wood stork who all came down on a regular basis for their treat of Bologna. We think we spotted a bobcat on the other side of the canal one day. There were many other interesting and colourful birds both large and small. We spotted a couple of snakes and a wild boar whilst out on our travels. Ely a neighbour one side and Mary Ellen on the other were both very friendly as were the pool men, Daryl and Tony, also Warren who is a friend of Sharie and Ron. We were at the house for a month and travelled to many different places in the area enjoying them all. Many thanks to Sharie and Ron for sharing their home with us and we would certainly like to come back in the future. Can certainly recommend this property without any reservations. We had a wonderful time.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for all of your kind words. That bed is great isn't it? Wish we had one like that at our main house. So thrilled you saw a manatee, seeing one in the spring is really special, as they usually only frequent the canal in the winter months. We really enjoyed you staying at Idle Days and look forward to having you back anytime you are in our area.

beautiful holiday in a great house

  • 5 of 5

Diverse Strände liegen in ca. 30 Autominuten Entfernung.

Vielen Dank an Sharie!

Very relaxing!

  • 5 of 5

We really appreciated this rental, as it is immaculate and comfortable. It was exactly what we needed for some downtime. The master bed is one of the most comfortable we've slept on anywhere, and the overall flow of the house was smart and relaxing. The house is well-stocked, and grocery stores and Target are very close by. Both neighbors were very nice, and Eddie was a hit. The owners of the house are highly responsive and helpful. Highly recommend.
