Neglected property, such a shame. DO NOT RENT!

  • 1 of 5

This unit is in a great location within the Hidden Valley Resort. It is a two-block walk from the community pool, has immediate access to walking and bike lanes and is a short drive to and from area state parks/hiking /golf course, etc. It is plenty big for a family gathering (we had 8). 5 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, a good-sized kitchen, small back deck, two fireplaces and an extra family room in the basement.

But....

The condo is in poor condition -- The basement has mold (we took pictures) - MOLD - mostly around the patio doors, and small water stains along the wall behind the beds in one of the rooms. The musty smell is overpowering, likely from water trapped under the carpet. We opened the patio doors - a struggle in itself - and opened windows and turned on rotating fans all day long, which helped slightly. Still not great for a family with either asthma or allergies... but also, MOLD! And the patio doors routinely stick or fall off.

We addressed the above issues with the owner and she sent cleaners out to attempt to clean the mold - which isn't realistic without tearing up the carpet and scouring any and all traces of it. A nice maintenance man tried to fix the patio doors and offered to bring us a dehumidifier, but was unable to locate one. So the problems persisted. The basement still smelled horribly musty and two adults and two kids slept down there begrudgingly. ... Also, the words "I'm sorry" were never uttered.

We should have demanded our money back, we should have demanded to be moved, we should have been much more firm in our complaints, but since many of us hadn't seen each other in nearly two years we tried to make the best of it. We did not want to spend half of our trip dealing with these issues... And yet, we should never have had to! So while we there, we also noticed the following:

The outside wood siding is rotting, particularly around the back windows and patio doors, but also in spots around the front. The living room furniture is uncomfortable. There were cobwebs behind the bathroom sinks. The grill was filthy, even though the owners stress that renters clean it - and so we did. The listing says the property is air conditioned, but that is misleading. It has one unit in the family room only... But hey, it has wi-fi....

This place is neglected and is in need of a serious face lift, inside and out. DO NOT RENT. There are plenty of better options throughout Hidden Valley Resort.

Owner's Response: We are very sorry about your recent stay, had we been aware it was so incredibly bad, we would have certainly rectified and move you to another unit. That said, we take offense to you publishing this report for all to see without having brought to our attention. I received two calls during your stay. One for the wi-fi code and that the extra coffee pot had grounds left in it. The second was for the musty smell, which during a hot summer does happen on the mountain, and which is why we air condition the property. When I asked if the air conditioning was on, I was told no, and I sent our handy man over to help with the situation. To address other issues, some of the wood siding on property does have some rot around the windows, is set to be replaced next summer, but does not affect stay in anyway. Grill likely was dirty, cannot argue, honestly don't know. And there might have been cobwebs behind the bathroom sinks, I honestly never looked. Property DOES NOT HAVE MOLD! And to say so anonymously and after the fact is offensive! I request Homeaway remove this comment as affects my rentals with a serious claim that is false. And have documentation from a remediation company to prove it. I obviously enjoy the reviews sections when are reviews are good, but anybody can say anything and have very little way to refute, but have to answer for anytime anyone inquiries. Not sure that is the intent.
