About Warren Hathaway
I'm a social worker and we formerly ran a small bed and breakfast in Vermont. We fell in love with Peaks Island and are always transformed into a relaxed state while we are on the island. We enjoy walking and biking, cooking and eating on the porch, and simply being there. We still live in Vermont but we try to get to Peaks whenever we can (and it's not rented!) .
Warren Hathaway purchased this House in 2012
Why Warren Hathaway chose Peaks Island
We fell in love with Peaks Island when we came here for our friend's wedding. Besides the island, we fell in love with this house because of it's wonderful, large front porch and it's short walk to Centennial beach. While renovating we discovered the beautiful beadboard that we've since completely restored. We liked that it has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths so we can easily host our family and friends. And we appreciate the house sits on two lots giving us more space in the yard and is quiet. We also like that it has a dining room that easily accommodates six.
What makes this House unique
The extra large lot is great for yard games and kids to play. The elementary school playground, empty in the summer, is almost across the street. It's a popular choice for visiting and island children alike. While not expansive, we now have limited views of Casco Bay which we enjoy from the sunporch and back deck (thanks to our neighbor's clearing some trees!)
Children allowed - Large yard, near beach, playground nearby. Large yard, near beach, playground nearby.

Lovely home with everything we needed. Easy access to beach; very responsive host. Great vacation.
Host is available via text and is very responsive. Renting was a smooth process.
Great house and host!
Wonderful place with proactive and responsive communication from host. Really hoping to stay again!
Loved Peaks Island
We had a terrific week on Peaks Island. The house had everything we needed and was in a great location. There was more than enough room for our family of five and Warren was available to answer any questions we had. The easy access to Portland was really nice but we found that we were just as happy to stay put on the Island much of the time.
Very nice cottage for a family vacation.
We had a great stay at Comstock Cottage. The kitchen is nice to work in because of the space and it’s well stocked. The porch is a plus...comfortable furniture and good people watching on the street.
Perfect stay at Peaks
My hope was to find a place where I could still commute to work a few days of the week and otherwise feel very much ‘away.’ Warren was delightful to work with - very responsive. The neighborhood was in the perfect location, a 10 minute walk to the ferry and a 5 minute walk to Centennial beach. The house was comfortable and clean - the kitchen was equipped with everything I needed to prepare meals and have a few friends over. Favorite part was sitting on the front porch under the shade of the big tree and waving to the passersby. Cockeyed Gull exceeded all expectations for a local place to find a delicious meal, gorgeous view and a tasty cocktail. A relaxing and memorable stay - makes me want to go back every year!! Special thanks to the hosts!
Really nice place
We were very happy with our stay in Comstock cottage. The home was very clean, with a great kitchen and comfortable bedrooms. In particular, the kitchen was extremely well equipped for a rental, with plenty of dishes, pot & pans, water, wine and beer glasses, flatware, cooking utensils, etc. We had some initial questions (which were, in fact, answered in the welcoming email). Warren was very quick and friendly in his responses. Comstock cottage is in a great location; the neighborhood was quiet and relaxed. We enjoyed having dinner out on the front porch as well as the dining room, and coffee on the back deck in the mornings. We’d happily rent here again!
If you enjoy walking or bicycling you'll love Peaks Island. In addition to the wonderful ocean views, there is little car traffic on the Island so on the backshore bikers and walkers tend to outnumber the cars. There are three restaurants on the Island, as well as Peaks cafe for coffee, breakfast and lunch, a full service grocery open 7 days week, a public beach, live lobsters for sale, golf cart rentals (for touring around if you're not the walking or biking sort.)
Portland is another attraction. It's a beautiful sight to look at at night, and a wonderful place to explore day or night as well.
Our favorite things to do are walking the beach (a half block away), doing the back shore loop, enjoying a book or glass of wine in the shade of the porch, and enjoying dinner while taking in the views of Casco Bay from the deck. Portland is very accessible from the ferry terminal and a gem of a city. It's a foodies and art lovers paradise.
Peaks Island gives you island peacefulness and Portland's urban culture. A winning combination!
