Situated in a very private cove on Lamoka Lake and surrounded by 20 acres of private wooded land. This cottage is slightly over a mile off the paved road and is a beautifully wooded drive to the southern most point of Lamoka Lake. 8 miles from Watkins Glen, 10 miles from Hammondsport and 20 miles from Corning. A perfect central location. Fish from dock or boat. Kayak out to Red Bank Island for great swimming and picnics. Lush wildlife abounds and this is paradise for bird watchers and all small wild animal lovers.
Pets 20lbs. and under are welcome.
Kathryn's Cottage on Lamoka Lake is ABSOLUTELY beautiful! The details in all the appointments from decor to supplies was wonderful! The view from the living area and deck were serene and our week was extremely peaceful! The lack of internet, cable and even cell service was a welcomed absence and gave us a chance to play games, talk and reunite with each other. The long and winding road to the cottage is what, I think, attributed to the peace we found out there. Not a negative at all, in our minds! The beautiful scenery of the Finger Lakes is abundant and relaxing in itself. Thank you, Kathryn, for sharing all of this with us. We loved it!
Enjoyed our stay at this cabin. Very nice, clean & a great view of Lamoka Lake. Very well equipped with all that you need for a relaxing vacation, nearby to Seneca Lake & the famous wine trail. Awesome waterfalls around the area, lots to do, or do nothing at all!
This is a gorgeous and very private location on the lake. The cottage is well-maintained and included everything we needed to cook/grill. The furniture looks new and the king bed is very comfortable. I've stayed in other rentals around the lake in the past and was happy to find that all the sheets and towels are already supplied, unlike the 'bring your own' places. The yard is huge and my kids (and I) loved playing badminton and volleyball. Took the kayaks out to Red Bank and had a great afternoon playing in the water. Hiked Buttermilk and Seneca Falls which were easy enough to take the kids and both beautiful. We loved the privacy and deck overlooking the water and the huge heron that flew in everyday. The nice bottle of finger lakes wine left for us was a welcome surprise.
This cottage appears to be an older double-wide that has been fairly recently renovated on one side. Furnishings are nice. The property and lake are just as you see it. The little bay is very shallow and weedy. I had some decent action fishing that area, but you have to paddle out of the bay a ways. Hit the point just out from the property with the tree swing. The older side of the cottage in the back had a slight musty smell to me, but I have the nose of a blood hound. The other thing to consider is the drive back on huggins is gravel, a couple miles and bumpy toward the last stretch. You /can/ drive a sedan back there, but your better off with an suv. Even though there are a few homes back there, I rarely saw another car or anyone unless I was on the lake. Just keep in mind your travel distances from Watkins Glen, Ithica, Corning, etc. The are between the cottage and the lake is larger than it looks in the picture. You can play some nice outdoor games.
The 3 stars was mainly due to the almost daily haul on the gravel road and distance to sights. The property itself is decent and fairly priced. This is a ok place especially if you plan to stay on the property most of the time. Just plan your groceries and meals well. I'd liked to have stayed somewhere between Seneca and Cayuga lake but budget didn't allow it.
