About Heather Vanderploeg

Hello, Nice to meet you. I purchased this property because I love Grand Haven! It's a great family town with lots of things to do, with the beach being best part! My husband and I were very lucky and got the chance to move here two years ago and I can't say enough good thing about the town. Being retired from the travel industry I have traveled many places and there's no place like Grand Haven!

Heather Vanderploeg purchased this cottage in 2013

Why Heather Vanderploeg chose Grand Haven

This property has the Cottage appeal with a large fenced in back yard. The fire pit is great for summer night campfires and roasting s'mores. The dinning room table also seats 8 comfortably. We have provided a crib and highchair for families with a baby. The bedding is all 100% cottage and is all washed in the sanitized cycle after each guest. I also provide Paper plates and cups for guests that do not want to do dishes.

What makes this cottage unique

The location of this property is withing waking distanced to Chinook pier and downtown.

average rating of 4.75 based on 4 reviews

Our family of four had everything we needed for a relaxing and comfortable vacation.

  • 5 of 5

Heather was a wonderful host. All of the linenens and kitchen utensils were supplied and organized and neat and clean. We took our bikes and ride all over town and to the beach. We hardly needed a car. Will definitely stay at the Madison Cottage when we come back to GH MI:)

We were very impressed with Madison House! It was fully furnished with more than we ever imagined!

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed staying in the house with our family. Everything was provided right down to beach towels, cups, plates, toys for the children. The backyard was great for fires and s’mores. We were 10minutes from downtown and the beach. Washer and dryer was a plus for wet towels and suits. Beautiful location, would go there again!!

We were so pleased with the shabby chic cottage

  • 4 of 5

The cottage was exactly as pictured. It was only a short drive from the beach, pier and downtown shopping. It was also close to large convenience stores which made it easy to stock up on needed supplies. The owner furnished sheets, towels, washcloths, dishes, pots/pans, dish soap, hand soap, paper towels, toilet paper and other cleaning supplies. The washer/dryer was an added perk. There were even solo cups and paper plates (just not sure if she supplied them or if they were left by another renter).

It is an older home but it was clean and well maintained. The cottage does have an older scent; having worked in antiques for many years I can say the scent is that of the older furnishings and nothing time, a simple air freshener or candle won't mask. Heather was great to work with: she texted, emailed and showed up when she said she would. We especially loved that she had toys and chalk for the kids to play with and that the kids had their own little dining table for meals. I would definitely recommend the cottage to friends and relatives. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was that I wished it had room darkening blinds/shades and a small window air conditioner in the small bedroom upstairs would have been nice. We had to keep the bedroom door open to make sure the entire upstairs stayed cool which it did with the one air conditioner and fans supplied by the owner. But with or without the shades and extra air conditioner, we would definitely rent the Madison shabby chic cottage again for our next visit to Grand Haven, Michigan. Loved it!!!!

The Madison House

  • 5 of 5

We really enjoyed our family vacation at the Madison House! The owners were very welcoming and we were pleased with the accommodations. The cottage was clean and decorated so cute! The dining area and the outdoor fire-pit/patio provided ample seating for our large family. The beds were very comfortable and the linens were hotel quality. We don't have little ones however, the cottage is furnished with a high chair, a crib and built in baby gates which our friends appreciated when they visited with their toddler. We spent time at the beach, biked/walked to the pier, visited the Farmer's Market, ate on the deck at Snug Harbor and enjoyed Pronto Pups downtown. Ladies, make sure you hit the Purple Rose Boutique just down the road from the cottage - great deals on clothing and accessories! We are already looking forward to our visit next summer and want to thank Heather and her husband for their hospitality!
