AWESOME location!

  • 5 of 5

LOVED the location on the river with beautiful waterfalls a short walk away. We thoroughly enjoyed wading in the river, jumping across the rocks, relaxing to the sound of the water, breathing in the fresh air and ALL from the comfort of the beautiful, well-furnished chalet. Highly recommend this location, esp. for outdoor adventurers.

Peaceful Place

  • 5 of 5

We loved staying at the Chalet Scandinave. We enjoyed the hiking trail nearby and the peaceful sound of the river running around the house. This place is remote so definitely follow the advice of the owner and purchase supplies before you arrive in Mandeville. There are some great toys for the kids in the wooden trunk by the stairs and there is great National Park only 90 min away (La Mauricie).

Our First Canadian Vacation

  • 5 of 5

So we eagerly ventured from Albany NY into the French speaking part of Canada for a 7 day vacation!

Chalet Scandinave had everything we needed including the setting. Waterfalls, hiking trails, BBQ grill, firewood for the pit and no traffic. Everything to have made our summer stay memorable. We stocked up with groceries at the IGA in Berthierville but the girls (14) and (12) took the opportunity to bake fresh bread in the Chalet. What a wonderful experience it was!! There is a grocery story in the town of Mandeville and in Saint-Gabriel though. We ate at a diner in Saint-Norbert where the owner, staff and customers helped translate the menu into English. Of course we ended up having cheese Burgers and Fries - LOL. But ... what an experience not just for the kids but for all of us!!!

Christine was generous with her time and suggestions, and were easy to communicate with. As elsewhere mentioned the chalet is secluded and you really have to be ready for it but the amazing, very safe setting makes up for it. Truly a peace of heaven.

Thank you Christine for sharing Chalet Scandinave with us!!

Full cabin canada experience

  • 4 of 5

-Traditional wooden cabin with fireplace, antlers, nature - the whole shebang

-Super nicely located right next to a river that can be heard at all times. Walk for 3 minutes and you'll have access to massive waterfalls!

-Owners is easy to communicate with and was very nice

-Well equipped kitchen so only had to bring food

-Large bathroom, one closed of bedroom, 3 bedspots upstairs, one bedsofa. Tv and dvd machine.

-We were 6 people (non-couple) and we'd all do it again and get this place.

Beautiful, peaceful, amazing

  • 5 of 5

Our family just spent a week at the Chalet and absolutely loved every minute of it! Our two daughters (7 and 10) loved playing in the river and hiking through the forest to see the various parts of the falls. My wife and I loved relaxing on the deck to the constant sound of the river rapids. Our dog, who is not normally fond of water, finally discovered the joys of the river. The kitchen is well-equipped - we cooked some very elaborate dinners with no problems. We enjoyed a campfire most nights. We loved that we were secluded, though not completely isolated, as there were always friendly people hiking the trails. Our eldest daughter celebrated her 10th birthday while we were there, which was our one meal out at a restaurant. We drove south about 20 minutes into Mandeville and had awesome pizza and pasta at Le Mistral (bring your own wine!). There's a big TV and nice sound system, though we didn't use it that much. We brought the Wii, but spent most of our time enjoying the trails and the river, reading books, doing puzzles, etc.

One thing we loved is that this chalet is plenty big for a family of 4 or 5, but not big enough to share with another family, so we only had our own company to enjoy, which we did.

Christine was very quick to reply to emails and phoned once or twice to make sure everything was ok, which of course it was.

We understood that this isn't the place for everyone - it's isolated, there's no movie theatre, pub or shopping mall, the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away, there's no cell reception (though there is very good wifi that reaches all the way down to the river - fun to facetime with family while you're sitting in the river with a glass of wine!) but for those who are looking for what this place offers, it can't be beat. It was absolutely what we were looking for, and was perfect.

We loved it so much we're considering making this a yearly vacation for our family!

Very pleased with the chalet and surrounding area. It was exactly what we're looking for, no neighbours and the constant soothing sound of the river. Total relaxation was accomplished!
