About the property

Your Gateway to the Natural Wonders of Florida! Kayak or Bring your Boat!!

This is a 3 bedroom, 2 bath home. Living room includes 40 inch flat screen LED TV, comfortable hide-a-bed queen couch that can sleep two, if necessary. There are also three recliners . Dining room has glass table with four chairs as well as a built in bar that has two chairs and three barstools. Kitchen is nice with a two bowl sink, dishwasher, two door refrigerator, microwave, toaster and coffee maker. Kitchen comes fully stocked with pots ,pans, dishes, outdoor cooking utensils, and much more! Washer and dryer available in 2nd bedroom of house with an additional front loading washer and dryer in the exterior bedroom. Each bedroom has 19" LED TV. Master bedroom with king bed, closet and private bathroom. Second bedroom has a full/twin bunk bed with pull out trundle twin bed. The second bedroom has a SEGA system with 80 games built in for the kids. The third exterior bedroom has a queen bed, microwave, small refrigerator, and two dressers. Please note that the exterior bedroom has a front entrance and a rear entrance by the upper deck. The exterior bedroom does not have a bathroom. The bathroom is inside about twenty feet from the front door of the bedroom. We also just added a two person Basketball Arcade game under the carport! You can enjoy your time lounging on either of the two decks under the gazebo on the upper deck or under the 8' x 20' covered section on the lower deck by the water. Outdoor chairs with firepit are located outside the exterior bedroom's rear french doors. Enjoy cooking out every night on the gas grill or dining out at local restaurants- Please note that there may or may not be gas for the grill. If there is no gas, you can get it filled locally. The Manatee Hideaway's canal has access to the main Weeki Wachee River and Gulf access. You can rent motor boats from the marina by Roger's park, or rent additional kayaks from the Kayak Shack located right next to the Upper Deck Bar & Grill. The Weeki Wachee State Park is only minutes away!! They have the famous live mermaid show, boat rides on the Weeki Wachee, and Water slides! FUN FOR ALL!! About Aaron Hester

We have been vacationing in Weeki Wachee for years. My wife grew up on Sebring Street and brought me down there to enjoy the Nature Coast. When I realized that I truly loved it here (after several years of vacations), we decided to purchase our own home here. In turn, we would like to share what we love with you and your family! We see manatees EVERY time we visit. Manatees are gentle and majestic creatures. Just watching them swim is quite relaxing. We love our experiences every time we come to Weeki Wachee.

Alot of the reasons are listed in the "about you" paragraph, but I will elaborate further..... The neighborhood our house is in is quiet and relaxing. We really enjoy eating dinner right on the water courtesy of the glass table on the lower deck/dock as the sun sets and goes down. We get almost daily visits at our dock from the manatees. You can fish right from the dock, and bring your boat!

What makes this house unique

We chose this property because of the decks and the dock. Easy access to the gulf for some really good fishing! Another amenity was the exterior third bedroom with a front door and a rear entrance to the decks via french doors. The spacious living room was another thing that caught my attention. Our entire family could sit comfortably. Also the dining room has a built in bar....seating for all.

Make sure you take pictures when you arrive and when you leave.

We enjoyed staying there April 13-17, 2018. The outside is just like the picture very nice and relaxing. After our visit is when the problem started. First of all when booking online the part about Property Damage Insurance came up and it said it was "recommended". (It didn't say it was required and on a previous property rental the lady was very nice and offered to waive that part), but I had to agree to pay the property damage in order to move forward with the reservation. When I received the insurance certificate it stated if I wanted to cancel this coverage I could as long as we had not left for the trip or filed a claim, so I canceled it for a full refund, now remember the owner was still holding my security deposit for any damage. Well on Sunday night his wife called (very nice lady) to make sure everything was ok and said they would waive the property insurance since I had already canceled it, but next time I would have to keep it. Couple days after we returned home I received an e-mail from the Owner saying one of us had tried to "break in" to his supply closet and he wanted to know the truth of what happened! We had no reason to need his supplies as we brought our own. I told him we left the place in cleaner shape than when we got there and none of us would have damaged anything and left it. Angry e-mails went back and forth, and he said he was taking a portion of my deposit for the damage since I had canceled the property insurance. He sent me a picture of the damage and this was a total scam, the way the picture showed some moulding pulled away from the door, we certainly would have noticed it and tacked it back on. I asked for a receipt for the damage and his reply was case is over, you done the damage, do not contact me again or I will press charges of harassment! So basically he got to keep part of my security deposit, there was 6 of us, my sisters and my mama, IF we had damaged his moulding on the supply door, we would have fixed it since one of my sister's is a carpenter, but the damage was not there when we left, but he just took my money and it wasn't anything I could do about it! I contacted the VRBO Home Away site and they were going to get his side of the story and let me know....still have not heard anything. Very disappointing, but hopefully I can keep this from happening to anyone else. Take dated pictures when you get there and when you leave.

Owner's Response: To All Future Guests, I apologize for this review. Crystal and I tried to do everything we could to appease this guest. The guest called me BEFORE booking the property and asked if we would waive the insurance. I replied that it was in our rental agreement that it is required for all guests. I did not think it was fair to waive it for one guest and not all. The guest continued with booking The Manatee Hideaway. Halfway through the guests stay, the guest cancelled the insurance. We received an email that stated this. My wife called the guest and asked if anything was wrong because the insurance was cancelled. The guest stated that VRBO had said via email that she could cancel the insurance. We contacted VRBO and we were informed that no email stating that she could cancel the insurance was sent. VRBO also informed me that since she cancelled the insurance and it was a requirement on our rental agreement, we could ask her to reinstate it OR we could terminate her stay at The Manatee Hideaway. We chose to let the guests stay as we did not want to inconvenience them any further. I found it odd that a guest would cancel the insurance in the middle of their stay??!?! Did something happen to cause the guest to cancel the insurance? The door was damaged when the guest left?!?!? FYI- due to this situation, we cancelled the insurance henceforth and we only require a deposit. The guest failed to mention that our cleaner was there right when they left @ 10 AM. She called my wife and I immediately with the news of the damaged door. Someone attempted to "hard" open the obviously locked with a padlock door. The door has been that way for a year without being damaged. Our cleaner was there when the last guest checked out and she was there right when this guest checked out. I am sorry, but it is quite obvious that someone in the guests extremely large party damaged the door. Now, I could have called a "door" company, but that would have cost at least what the guest's deposit was..., NO, I had my local maintenance man fix it and he charged $75. I thought this was CHEAP! Crystal and I strive to keep costs down as much as possible for ALL of our guests. If you read our reviews, 99% of our guests had a pleasant stay. Should I say that we had complaints from neighbors about loud music and partying late on the deck? How about the four cars that were parked all over the yard? We want all of our guests to enjoy our amenities, but you cannot please everyone.

Nice trip in a nice place

This is our second visit to this place /house with my family (include 2 dogs) to celebrate my birthday. The place is clean and cozy. The area outside is great , it has BBQ and sufficient kayaks for everybody.

We love it!

The close proximity to restaurants, river beach, and town made the location a great choice.

The house was nice. There were a couple of things that could use some attention like the floor around the master bath was weak in spots. The house was nice and the deck in the back was the best part of the house. We spent most of our time there. The neighborhood was nice, and quiet. The close proximity to town, river, beaches, and restaurant made it an ideal location for vacation. The only negatives that I can say was the quest bedroom (old garage) had a chemical smell coming from the window AC unit. We turned it off an bought a candle warmer to eliminate the smell. The lock on the sliding glass door was hard to get to lock, and we could not get the key for it to work. So in order to lock that door you had to do it from the inside. It is a overall nice house, a little dated, but had a feeling of home. I would stay at this location again if I travel to that part of Florida. The owners called to check on us when we arrived, and when I spoke with her, she seemed to be a great lady that was willing to make our stay the best possible.

Adequate but not great

This home is nicely situated on Weeki Wachee. The backyard is just as pictured. We didn't get to enjoy it due to the unseasonably cold weather, but it does offer a nice outdoor space. Unfortunately, the inside was a disappointment. The first thing that hit us was the overwhelming odor of a cleaner, or maybe all the DampRid containers. There was so much blue toilet cleaner in the master bedroom toilet that we didn't use it. The master bedroom has a nice King size bed, and it was comfortable. However, it smelled of cigarette smoke, which we assumed came from people who smoke out on the deck. The living room furniture smelled like years of other people sitting on them. We did open the house up during the day to try and air it out. The TV was impossible to use unless you pointed the remote in just the exact right place. A channel guide would be a great addition to the information in the binder. The main bathroom shower had mold in the corners. It would also be nice if a bar of soap was provided. Some of the towels provided had holes in them. We did enjoy the use of the washer and dryer,. We felt that, for the price we paid, we could have found a nicer place for a better off season price.

Owner's Response: Hello Dennis, We apologize if our Manatee Hideaway was not up to your standards. We took extra precautions with cleaning when you told us about your asthma condition, thus the reason for the cleaner smell. We paid the cleaner to come back just before you checked in to make sure all was well and "touch up". The Damprid is used by nearly all owners due to the moisture in the air from being next to the water. When Crystal spoke to you, you said that everything was great, there were no issues. The blue cleaner in the master toilet is from one of the auto cleaners that make the bowl water blue everytime you flush. We apologize if there was an issue with our furniture. Our cleaner steam cleans the furniture once a month. On the TV, if you press the "guide" button, a preview guide that lists all channels and programs pops up. We have instructed our cleaner to replace any frayed towels and we have repaired/replaced the caulk in the corner of the main shower. Crystal and I go "all out" to make sure our place is as comfortable as possible. We apologize that our extra efforts were not enough to make your stay better than it was. Excellent! It had everything we needed.

We really enjoyed this house. It had everything we needed for a beautiful weekend on the river. BBQ, Kayaks, canoe...it’s all there! There is also a restaurant and store within walking distance. The owners were great and called to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you! We had a wonderful anniversary weekend!

Pine Island

Pine Island is a really nice family friendly beach that is only five miles away. We are only an hour and a half from Disney World and an hour from Busch Gardens. We went to the aquarium in Tampa as well as the Lowry Zoo, also in Tampa. Both were GREAT! We also enjoy kayaking/boating/snorkeling in the Weeki Wachee river. Crystal clear water!!! If you like to fish, you can be in the Gulf reeling them in within 25-30 minutes! Homosassa State Park is a lot of fun as well! Check it out! Also, MY favorite restaurant in the area is Crackers in Crystal River, FL. They have live classic rock bands at the outside bar, great food, and you can dine by the water. Need I say more?

Rates are subject to change until the reservation is confirmed. The unit is for up to eight people. If there are more than eight people, the rate is $10 per person, per day. If there is more than eight people staying in the unit with out informing the owner, your rental agreement is no longer viable and you may be asked to leave. We do not allow students and persons under the age of twenty five to rent the unit. Check in time is 4 PM, Checkout at 10 AM.
We only rent the unit weekly during holidays- We prefer Saturday to Saturday.

Owner's Cancellation Policy

  • 100% refund if canceled at least 60 days before arrival date.
  • Service Fee fully refunded on cancellations that qualify for 100% refund.
