Hill Flats DC is an owner managed luxury 1880 brownstone on the first residential block across the street from the Library of Congress and Folgers Shakespeare Theater. Just a short walk away you will have immediate access to the US Capitol, US Supreme Court, and The National Mall.
This is the ultimate location if you are looking for immediate walk-able access to all of Washington DC's historic sites.
The building is also just few blocks away from Eastern Market and Barracks Row. For public transportation the property is a short walk to Union Station and Capitol South Metro stops in addition to numerous bus lines.
There are dozens of restaurants, cafes, and bar's within a few minute walk. There is also a neighborhood grocery store around the corner. Capitol bike share is located nearby. Walkscore is 94.
The private apartment is on the second floor of a 4 unit historic 1880 building. The flat has been freshly remodeled and has a fully appointed kitchen with stainless steel appliances, granite counter tops, and marble bathroom tile. For your sleeping arrangements we have 1 queen size pillow top mattress bed, 1 Full size memory foam bed. We also have an additional queen size air mattress which is available upon request.
The unit comes with everything you need to make your stay comfortable.

Parking is available on site for $25/night. Please inquire for availability. In case our on-site parking is not available for your stay there is parking at Union Station for $22/night. Union Station is approximately a 10 minute walk to the flat.

Since being built in 1880 numerous Senators, Congressmen, artists, and academics have all resided at what is now Hill Flats.
The building was previously used as a lecture hall and residence for scholars conducting research at the Library of Congress which is across the street.
Due to the buildings immediate proximity to national monuments, the National Park Service and Washington DC has designated Hill Flats a Historic building and has registered it under the Capitol Overlay and Fine Arts District. This designation ensures that all preservation is conducted under the direction of the Architect of the Capitol.
Hill Flats has been meticulously preserved while ensuring that it meets modern comforts.

This is a great location and easy place to stay. My husband and I stayed for a weekend to visit our son who lives in DC and found this to be a quality place. The check-in is simple and reliable; the management team is very responsive and professional. Access to anything is simple and the neighborhood is quiet and lovely. We stayed in the studio bedroom unit and the bathroom was nice and clean, and the kitchen well-appointed. We could not have asked for a better spot. I recommend you try it out for yourself!
I have been traveling to DC for several years staying in hotels such as the W. However, I decided to try this place out in December after a recommendation from a friend. It's my first choice when traveling to D.C.. First, Gene and his team are the best hosts. The process TK get in is easy and requires almost no coordination as it all done be access codes traded and programmed remotely. The units are immaculate and house keeping is professional. The location is perfect for Capitol Hill. Access to the city is easy via walking, metro, Uber, Lyft, cab and driving. The library of Congress is next door and the Capitol is two blocks. The neighborhood is quiet, peaceful and safe. It's also an easy walk to restsraunts and taverns such as the Hawk and Dove, East Market, Capitol Hill Club, Sonoma wine bar to name just a few. My wife joined me for a weekend in Gene's two bedroom unit and we easily walked the monuments and museums from there. Gene's units are my first choice for D.C. after the countless great experiences I have had staying there. I highly recommend this option.
There were three of us staying here and it worked great. The location is so very convenient to anything and everything. It was nice to be staying in a neighborhood and be able to walk to get our coffee every morning, a drink in the evening and know we had a great place to go home and relax after a long day of sightseeing. Very quiet and the bed was comfortable. We didn't really use the kitchen at all but it seemed well equipped.
Great place! We love not only the place it's self, but also it's location. The place is as described, a little on the small side for an extended stay, however has everything you need. The kitchen is small, however the refrigerator and stove are normal size and had the essential pots and pans for cooking your own meals. The only two things that even remotely seemed to be missing were a dish rag of sorts. Dish towels and sponges were there, however no dishcloth for wiping down the stove or counter tops and doing the dishes. Thank goodness for pull tap diced tomatoes, we did not find a can opener. There was a bottle opener. Again, two very tedious details.
As far as comfort it too was good. We were on the 2nd floor and had people upstairs on the 3rd floor and could hear them walking. One morning they were up at 4:00 and left the apartment just after 6:00, we too were awake at 4:00. I know it's an older building and wood floor creak, but it was every foot step. 4am is just a tad too early for me. The only reason I'm giving it 4 stars and not 5 is the bed. It was a steel frame however noisy, there was no way to turning in bed without waking up the other person, very creaky. Even just sitting on the bed was noisy.
A great place, close to everything! It was our 2nd stay and glad we returned.
This brownstone is in the perfect location! The Capitol Hill area is beautiful, clean, and safe, making it easy to walk to most major tourist destinations. The brownstone itself is perfect for feeling a part of history, yet has lots of modern conveniences. We loved it and would book again if we ever get back to D.C.
Our family of four spent five nights at this condo. We loved everything about it! It's right behind Folger's Shakespeare Library and theater, which is right behind the Capitol. We walked to all major attractions and ALL major museums. The neighborhood felt absolutely safe, even late at night. If you go for a morning walk in the neighborhood you will see many locals - walking their dogs, taking their kids to preschool, getting breakfast at the local cafe. It makes you feel like you are part of this beautiful city and really adds another dimension to your stay. The historic building is in perfect condition and there is everything you need in the condo. Wifi worked great. The kitchen seemed brand new. There was plenty of hot water both in the evening and in the morning. Within a five minute walk (take a left when you exit the building) you will find great food options - Pret a Manger is a French-style cafe with wonderfully strong coffee and a great variety of fresh delicious sandwiches and pastries. In the same block is We The Pizza - great quality and variety by the slice, very affordable, as well as a very nice burger place and several other restaurants. The is a convenience store within a five minute walk from the condo (take a right when you exit the building and another right at the first intersection, walk one block). We found it very helpful since we didn't have a car. Thanks to the location of our condo, we stayed well within our food budget and had extra to splurge on a private tour of the monuments my moonlight. We got to meet Gene in person and were so pleased! He is extremely sweet, flexible, helpful and knowledgeable. He gave us some great out-of-the-beaten-path suggestions for things to see in the city. We will definitely recommend this condo to family and friends!
