About Martha Koerner
I grew up in Portland and live there now with my husband and two daughters where we both work in design. We frequently visit the gorge and Mosier to visit my brother and his family and to enjoy the beauty and activities of the area including, biking, hiking, paddle boarding and exploring. We use the home ourselves and are excited to share it with you.
Martha Koerner purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Martha Koerner chose Mosier
I had my eye on this house and its mate next door for years as they fell into neglect. They were built in 1915 and they are a part of the historic fabric of Mosier. When they came on the market, I was excited for the opportunity to bring back their dignity and charm. My brother lives very close by and is a contractor who specializes in restoring old homes which, of course, was key to the remodel.
What makes this Cottage unique
Sitting on the front porch lets one take in the immense landscape of the Columbia River Gorge and, at the same time, slow pace of a small town. The house has a great feel, a wonderful place to relax. Restoring and renovating the house was a labor of love and has served as a place for my creative energies including the making installing of the tile, the garden/patio and some artwork and furnishings.

Good home away from home.
We had a wonderful stay at the Little Red Cottage. It was clean, comfortable and quiet- a good respite after a day of hiking. The cottage is airy and bright with sky lights but has window shades for privacy.
The kitchen is well equipped and we had everything we needed including basic staples, coffee filters and condiments in the bottom drawer. Be sure and check that drawer before going to the store. We appreciated the coffee that Martha provided. Martha was easy to contact for questions or concerns. Good location for us- close to trails, short drive to Hood River, relaxed environment at the end of the day. Will definitely rent again if we are back in the area.
The "little red house" was perfect for the two of us. We cooked our dinners for the 5 nights that we stayed. The kitchen had everything you would need. The living room was comfortable, and spacious. The bedroom was so cozy and quiet in the back of the house. We thought the bed was super comfortable as well. Also, the bathroom was modern and there was a washer/dryer. We had our coffee in the morning, and wine in the evening on the front porch looking out at the gorgeous view of the Columbia River. We loved our stay there. Mosier is a cute little town away from the crowds and traffic of Hood River. We couldn't have been happier with the place! Thank you, Mike & Lyn
Little Red House was great, even for a family of 4!!
The Little Red House was a wonderful place to stay for a week!!!. We are a family of 4 and we had plenty of room. The accommodation was very clean and well maintained. Beautifully renovated and ample room to move about the kitchen. Location was the selling feature for us as it is a perfect spot for windsurfing, kiting and other sports, including biking! Additionally, walking distance to a few great restaurants and a 10 min drive to town. The house itself was very quiet at night and with the bedroom in the back of the house we didn't hear highway traffic and barely heard the trains!
The sofa bed was VERY comfortable as its has a memory foam mattress which provided for a very restful sleep.
The only things I would address is the brightness in the bedroom and the firmness of the bed. We found ourselves being woken up at 0630 due to the brightness and some unrestful sleeps as we found the mattress firm, but that is a personal choice. My only recommendation would be to consider some darker shades in the bedroom or some covers for skylights.
Overall we LOVED The Little Red House and I would recommend this to anyone who loves morning coffee on the deck overlooking the river and mountains while listening to the birds! Thank you Martha, we hope to be back next summer!!!
Cheers, Wendy and John
Clean, freshly painted, renovated
Especially clean, freshly painted, and renovated, roomy, lots of natural light, outstanding kitchen, nice touches added by Martha, the owner.
She checked to make sure everything was okay, and she was timely in responding to our communications.
Beautiful Little House
My wife and I were grinning from ear to ear when we entered the property. You can tell that the house was recently renovated, and the results are gorgeous. The owner, who we never met, really has an eye for decor. Along with all of the amenities you'd possibly need for a place like this, there were handwritten notes along with things like a small bag of gourmet coffee. If you're looking for a great place to base your trip to the Columbia River Gorge, this is a fantastic spot.
Very nice home, really comfortable!
Nice, clean comfortable home. Mosier is quiet, but close to Hood River/White Salmon.
