A LITTLE HISTORY
Although a very small town, Crail has an extremely impressive history, its royal charter being granted by Robert the Bruce in 1310. This charter gave the people of Crail the right to trade on the Sabbath, which may explain why 200 years later John Knox chose Crail parish church as the venue for his most violent of sermons!
Lounge with Oak Beams Dating from 1782. During renovations the old stone walls were revealed behind the plaster walls and an original old beam was discovered. This now forms a feature of the lounge in The Watch House.
The lounge now has dimmer lights and recessed spots highlight the stone walls. A wide screen TV with surround sound and CD player with selection of music. The Watch House has a full kitchen with hob and oven, it also has a microwave oven and washing machine for your use. All the usual kitchen items are available and it has a fridge and freezer. We absolutely loved our stay at the Watch House. The views are incredible and the cottage was so welcoming and cosy. We also loved the village of Crail. As we have a daughter in her second year of Uni at St Andrews we are looking forward to future visits.

Paradise had a glitch
I arrived at the watch tower and found it neat and tidy. The outside was cheerful with all of the beautiful flowers. It is a very old building, but it has it's charms. The views were magnificent, and the little town of Crail was unique.
The Master bedroom, and only bath, is located on the third floor. The second bedroom (twin beds) are located on the second floor. The living room and kitchen are together on the ground floor. All are connected by a winding staircase. I had planned on "planting my feet" there for a few days and just unwind. But that all came to naught soon after I arrived. I discovered within moments of my entrance to the apartment that there was a foul odor. I tried to find the source, with no success. I opened doors and windows to air out the rooms and I left the building. I hoped that when I returned it would be aired out and everything would be fine, but that was not the case. Once the doors and windows were closed for the evening, the odor returned. I was so disappointed, because that meant that I would be leaving as quickly as I arrived. I left the apartment the next morning and did not return. I was really disappointed. So be forewarned.
It was absolutely breathtaking and very homey
My family and I had s great time staying at the Watch Tower. When we first walked in I fell in love with it. It was clean and homey We loved the little village everyone was so nice. Linda and Harry were very helpful when we had any questions. Looking forward to another stay someday.
British Open week
We stayed at The Watch House in Crail for the week of the 2015 Open. I can't say enough about this area and the house. It was beautiful scenery. Bus stops close by the house for the run in to St. Andrews. Local pub, fish and chips, and grocery store. Everyone is welcoming, helpful, and friendly. The house has old style, is quaint and charming. Extraordinary views from the kitchen and the bedrooms. A short stroll along the castle walk outside the front door takes you to the harbor. I would definitely recommend this, and hope to be able to make it back someday. Thank you very much to our hosts, Harry and Linda.
Amazing cottage with great view and charm
My wife, sister daughter and I stayed at the tower house the week after new years and had a great time. The house was fantastic. The views were to die for and with the old style of house, you could hear the ocean all night. Talk about a southing sleep. The house had everything you could want and the the rooms were spacious and the beds comfortable. The ocean feels even closer than the photos show and with the sunrise after 8 in the morning, we saw it 3 times. The village of Crail is quaint and charming. We ate at the Anstruther Fish and Chips restaurant just 10 minutes down the road and it was awesome. St. Andrews was less than 20 minutes and we enjoyed many a stroll through town. Fabulous stay and great house. I will be back for sure.
What a fabulous place for a vacation. The whole family loved the views, the city, the people, local golf, local seafood, and the hiking right outside the door. The easy access to the Coastal Trail was definitely a plus, but even if you only wanted to enjoy the view it would be ideal. Harry was great to work with, and we are definitely hoping to return in the near future.
