4-Bedroom House With Large Private Beach, Amazing Views of lake and large yard.
About Joanie Praamsma
We are two brothers and a sister—Jim, Steve, and Joanie—whose family has owned the property since 1970. Joanie lives two miles from the property. She is currently directing a pregnancy center after many years of working in adoption placement, and her husband Dave is a high school English teacher. Jim lives in northeastern Vermont, where he and his wife Renee are also English teachers, in high school and middle school. Steve lives near Chicago, where he is a personal trainer and his wife Christina is a teacher.
Joanie Praamsma purchased this House in 1987
Why Joanie Praamsma chose Vergennes
Our parents originally bought the land in order to pipe water to their nearby dairy farm, which they had purchased in1967 after immigrating from the Netherlands. They built the current house on it in 1987 and lived in it until they both passed away in 2014-15. While only Steve, the youngest of us, ever lived in it with them, we all have enjoyed the house regularly over the years when visiting our parents and during summer and holiday family get-togethers. All three of us held our wedding receptions there. We have many treasured memories of the place. Things we especially love about it include the beach, where we and our children have spent many hours playing; the closeness to Button Bay State Park, where nearly every Thanksgiving and Christmas for about 30 years we have walked to Button Point for family pictures; and Button Island, which we love to explore and picnic on. We also enjoy family bike rides on the flat, low-traffic roads; ultimate Frisbee games on the big lawn; bonfires on the beach; barbecues on the deck; and lunch or dinner at Basin Harbor Club.
What makes this House unique
Very few properties on Lake Champlain have an actual beach and a road to drive/walk down (most have difficult access and require stairs and have no beach). We have a large beach area with a fire pit and benches as well as ability to pull any watercraft right onto the beach, or be able to launch a boat you bring yourself by driving down to the water.

Private location awesome views!!!!
Loved this property!!! Enjoyed staying with my adult children and granddaughter. The guys went fishing early in AM. Loved the location very private with awesome views. Last minute changes as my dog care provider had to go out of town, owners were very accommodating. We were very lucky with the weather.
Great lake front property
Our second year in this Vermont home. Beautiful views from the deck. The water was too high this year to enjoy the beach or firepit, but you can't beat Mother Nature. House has all you need to feel at home. Close to the nice town of Vergennes with wonderful restaurants and plenty of hiking.
everything you need in a lovely setting
great setting right on the lake. fully equipped kitchen and lots of space to spread out
Made the Music happen
Thank you for allowing us to stay at your beautiful home for our a cappella tour weekend. Although the weather didn't cooperate, everything else about the place was warm and wonderful. We found everything we needed to prepare meals, clear help for understanding rules and expectations, and very clean accommodations.
Wonderful peaceful palace
Just got back from spending a long weekend at this home and had a wonderful time. We had 12 people in all and were very comfortable. The owner was very responsive to our needs and was easy to deal with. We would definitely love to come back again in the future. Our only regret is we didn't find this place sooner.
The home was beautiful and relaxing as well as being wonderfully equipped! It truly felt like home. We can't wait to come back again and stay here again! Many thanks for making our trip extra special!!!
