About Nick Moore-Morris
Hello . Jenny and I moved to Southern France some years back now, with our young family, seeking the warmth of a Mediterranean climate ,the beauty of Southern France, good wine and a more relaxed way of life amongst the nature and history of this lesser known area. We have not been disappointed and still marvel at the beauty of our surroundings, the space we have and yet all the facilities of modern life just close bye. Not that easy to find but we did and here we are over 20 years later and never saw anywhere better! It was an all or nothing move. Jenny has been a local councillor. I play in the pottery studio when I get the chance. No photo of us as we don't really come with the gite! But you'll see us around, occasionally by the pool.
Nick Moore-Morris purchased this Cottage in 1991
Why Nick Moore-Morris chose Sauve
Why this property? Well because it's close to all the facilities you may need and not up a mountain pass ! The accommodations are set within 12 acres of a conservation area of outstanding natural beauty. Look us up at mas astruc sauve. The whole region is stunning in its beauty, there's a super pool waiting,no stairs, great local walks, plenty of attractions from caves and train rides to bamboo forests and Roman temples , beautiful markets, great wine and even river swimming It's a perfect place to relax and watch the stars at night. Surrounded by a beautiful natural environment in a conservation area but close to art galleries, supermarkets, restaurants and a wonderful wine growing area. It's close to this side of paradise! and offers you your own private garden area as well as acres of meadow land to enjoy. Walk the medieval lane to Sauve for breakfast bread or in the evening to one of the nearby restaurants.
What makes this Cottage unique
Beautiful meadowland surrounds you in this conservation area giving you space to breath. Barbecue in your own garden or wander across the meadows and play a game of boule Everyday you'll see eagles overhead. But you'll be only 3 minutes drive to supermarkets, restaurants (even closer), and genuine village markets. In the further meadows you'll find our donkeys, goats and chickens (don't worry ,there is no noisy cockerel!)There's a delightful walk from your accommodation by gardens and river to the authentic medieval village of Sauve with its many artists, musicians, restaurants and many interesting shops . Magical medieval architecture and squares with cafes. You'll have complete privacy but Jenny and I are always there to help with any problems you may have from booking a restaurant to punctures to light bulbs.

Absolutely perfect !!!!
This was a true gem discovery. Nick and Jenny couldn't have been nicer and care more about our setting. The house is even more gorgeous than on the picture, with absolute silence and privacy, minutes away from the village, and the pool is perfect for the kids and parents.
We'll be back !
Thank you so much for your response and confirmation that we really do live in a beautiful setting. Relaxing here is very easy, with the time and space to appreciate the finer things of life. And after a visit to Arles or the Mediterranean beaches at the Camarge, what better way to spend the evening than a leisurley swim then a glass of wine in your own garden.
We look forward to your next visit
A wonderful week
We had a wonderful week at La Bergerie. It is such a relaxing place - no cars, no sounds but the rustle of the wind in the trees and the call of the golden orioles (briefly glimpsed). The mulberry tree makes the perfect parasol, to sit and read, or to enjoy convivial meals. The pool is immaculate, and well fenced-in so that we had no worries about the children having accidents. They loved all the animals - Gordon the dog, and the donkeys and goats and hens. Jenny and Nick were excellent hosts, too!
Thanks so much for taking the time to review your holiday.
Jenny and I are happy that you had such a great time and it would it would be lovely to see you all again soon. Take care.
Discovering Mas du Moulin d’Astruc is discovering treasure for us. Set amongst natural beauty that unfolds as you take the time stop, look around at the scenery and discover the local walks and wildlife and Nick and Jenny’s animals.
The description of the property is accurate. This family has created an environment that delivers everything we needed and more: spacious comfortable and well equipped accommodation that blends into the country feel perfectly. The pool is a delight, especially after a hot day. We loved the Bergerie – a beautiful, traditional country gite. It was cool inside on a hot day with plenty of room in the secluded garden to relax or sun bathe.
What a difference the hosts make to a holiday. Nick and Jenny are friendly and very helpful, but in no way intrusive, allowing us to feel truly away from it all and yet only a 5 minute drive away from the supermarket in Quissac.
Will we visit more than once? That’s a yes from me (Paul) and Pat.
Thank you for taking the time to review your holiday at the Mas du Moulin d'Astruc. We look forward to seeing you here again. The donkeys already miss the carrots you kindly gave them.
An enchanting place
What a great place this is for a holiday if you want to experience the true Languedoc Roussillon. We had the perfect week on this tranquil and beautiful mas and were enchanted with the area and the region. If you like striking scenery with vineyards, rivers, mediaeval villages and Roman towns all framed by the magnificent Cevennes then you will love this! We did! The delightful owners of the mas, Jenny and Nick, could not be more welcoming or helpful and we were immediately at home in our lovely farmhouse gite with its very French style and rustic appeal. There is an inviting pool surrounded by bamboo and secreted in the meadow around which the gites are individually located - with a fabulous view to the Cevennes as a backdrop. We visited the closeby (within easy walking distance on a quiet and gentle stroll along the river) mediaeval village of Sauve which has a number of excellent restaurants with stunning views over a river and also the equally close village of Quissac which had a proper French market. We were out of the summer season but the mas is very close to some beautiful river swimming spots which we went to with a view to returning - absolutely stunning scenery! We also went to the nearby Roman towns of Uzès and Sommières which were both beautiful in different ways and both unmissable if you stay here. There is so much to do and all surprisingly close but it became increasingly tempting to stay put, just to sit with a book and a glass of the very good local rosé (available on the mas!) and soak up the nature and beauty of this unique place.
It's the wonderful beauty around us that keep us here. We are glad that you enjoyed it with us and had an enjoyable break.
This was a dissapointing stay in this gite which required general updating to reflect the price of the holiday. More essentials should be provided e.g washing powder, kitchen foil etc, no extra charges for cleaning should be required if this has already been done before leaving the gite. The swimming pool is tastefully positioned in the garden and is well maintained.
The nearest village Sauve is accessible via a track behind the gite and is aprox 20 mins walk. It is medieval and currently is undergoing a renovation project which will be an improvement to its current appearance.
Thank you for taking so much time to write a review. We of course welcome feedback from our guests. We do feel, having met you, that you may well have been better accommodated in a totally modern apartment rather than in the beautiful rural countryside of southern France. It seems that even the nearby medieval village of Sauve, a listed village of special beauty in the Gard , just a 20 minute walk, was not clean enough for you. As to “updating” the property, it stands on a Roman site within a conservation area and is full of character with beamed ceilings and tiled floors, etc. We go to lengths to furnish it with characterful and typical FRENCH furnishings which may seem to you to be outdated compared to say, furnishings from Ikea.
As for your comment about “ track behind the gite “ this is unforgivably inaccurate. The surfaced and charmingly walled ancient lane leading towards the Sauve is to be found 100 meters from the gite location where it connects to our drive. From the French windows which open onto your private garden there is a whole meadow before you reach the quite lane, used only by a few local gardeners. I think this reflects the accuracy of your review. Take a look at any map! If the want of a roll of baking foil spoilt your holiday then good luck to you in the future, Sandra!
We hope you enjoyed the cool drinks and chilled wine provided for you upon arrival.
Your accommodation was let for 3 weeks before you to a returning client, who loves the property and the area. Many of our guests return year after year. Your expectations, standards and tastes are clearly beyond those of most of us and we suggest that next time you holiday in a brand new apartment in a clean and spruced up tourist resort . We specialise in a calm, spacious, characterful and beautiful environment where nature is at its best.
Thank you for your kind comments about the large and well maintained pool. With its relaxation area and decking it certainly is a haven of refreshment, enjoyment and FUN, factors which are of real importance to us and most of our guests.
Peace in Languedoc
We have stayed at Mas d'Astruc in 1997, 1999, 2011, 2012, 2013 (twice) and have booked again for this year. We love the peace and quiet and relaxing atmosphere of this rural gite. The owners make you feel very welcome and are on hand to answer any queries and change the gas bottles for cooking.
After a hot day out it is a pleasure to come back to the beautifully maintained pool and cool down.
Despite its location in the countryside, 2 villages are only 5 minutes away by car, with shops and supermarkets for all our needs.
There is easy access to the mountains of the Cevennes to the north, and the Mediterranean and the Camargue to the south, as well as historic towns and villages.
We have a passion for natural history, and there is great variety locally, in fact the wildlife comes to you at Mas d'Astruc with birds of prey passing overhead, butterflies and dragonflies flitting around and wild orchids in the fields. For some idea of the wildlife, search Flickr for Mas d'Astruc.
My wife has had mobility issues in recent years, and the property being more or less on one level (1 step up or down only) is ideal.
There is no TV or Radio, so this gives a great opportunity to catch up with reading and allows you to "get away from it all".
There is no point repeating the description of the facilities given on the owners' website as it is accurate.
The best recommendation we can give is our repeated visits, and that we keep meeting the same people in the other properties on the site year after year!
Thank you Bill, it's always a pleasure to share the discovery of some new facet of wildlife with you. By the way, if you don't want to get away from it all entirely then the Bergerie , as with the other cottages, offers full Internet Wi-Fi connection.
