Casa No-me-olvides is a pretty 3 storey village house in the upper part of the village. White with green shutters, it has been recently renovated and its comfortable rooms have a fresh, Mediterranean feel. There are wonderful views from all of the rooms of whitewashed village houses, olive-groves and mountains. This is most appreciated from the roof-top terrace which has a lounger, table and chairs and a hammock. The terrace is half-covered to give both sun and shade. It has one double bedroom and a double sofa-bed in the sitting room, which also has a lovely wood-burner for the cooler months. Detailed instructions of over 20 local walks ranging from 1 hour to 7 hours are provided in the cottage. If you'd rather walk with a guide, this can be arranged.

About Sophie Payne
I fell in love with Montejaque many years ago when I lived in Madrid and went on a trip to visit some friends in nearby Cortés...in 2003 I met my husband-to-be in London and, knowing we were settling in the UK, decided to buy somewhere there, so I could get my regular "Spain" fix... 12 years on and two children later, I teach Spanish in Oxford and still absolutely love going out to this beautiful place. Once the children are tucked up in bed, we sit on the terrace in the still night with olives and wine and breathe in the peace and just feel good.... The wonderful walks we used to do are impossible now with our little children, but we are looking forward to starting them again in a few years...

Magic in Montejaque
A lovely peaceful place to stay, with gorgeous terrace and views over the village. The bed was very comfy, and my friend - who stayed for a few days of my hols - said the sofa bed was a winner as well. Lots of local information about walks and attractions, though a few of the walks were a bit out of date and not accessible. The village itself was very picturesque. Great value for money, and a beautiful and simple place to stay.
The town of Tarifa and the Costa de la Luz are a 2 hour drive away. There are beautiful long stretches of beach here, ideal for water sports and the town itself, with an old centre of narrow streets enclosed within the medina walls, is gorgeous. If you prefer a bit more glamour, then Marbella and Puerto Banus are only 1.5 hours away. Cadiz, 2 hours away, is another coastal region worth a visit. It also boasts a water park, details of which are in the cottage.
Jerez airport 1.5 hours. Malaga airport 1.75 hours. Seville airport 1.75 hours.
Gibraltar airport 2 hours.
The historic town of Ronda, on the edge of a gorge, is just 15 mins away. You can shop, eat and drink there, see a show or wander round the old buildings and squares. Cordoba is also worth a day trip - visit the incredible Mezquita and have sherry and lunch. For overnight trips, a train goes from Benaojan, the next village along, to Granada, a great 3 hour train journey through spectacular scenery. Seville is also do-able in a day, but its great restaurants may warrant an overnight trip.
The village has grocery shops, a bakery, a pharmacy, a fishmongers, a post office, tapas bars and restaurants (it is worth noting that several of the bars and restaurants are closed in winter). There is also a lovely village pool (open in the summer months) with lawned and terraced areas for sunbathing, mountain views and a cafe. Companies nearby organise mountain-bike tours, horse-riding, quad-biking, paragliding and potholing. Details of these are in the cottage, along with descriptions of the many great local walks. There are great villages to visit in the area - Grazalema, famous for its gorgeous woollen blankets; Ubrique, handbag mecca; Zahara, with its huge lake, perfect for a picnic and swimming. Just 10 minutes away you can also find the incredible pre-historic caves of Cueva de la Pileta with their famous Neolithic paintings.
