About Julie Schofield
I live in Yorkshire and I like to spend time in France. Ty Mad originally belonged to the village Miller who had it built in the 1950's. It retains many of its original features, beamed ceilings and a stone fireplace but it has a new roof, a new heating system and has been completely re-wired. What attracted me to the cottage was the chalet style of the property, unlike a lot of Brittany cottages it has big windows which make the rooms light and airy. The cottage also has a fantastic garden, with lawns and fruit trees. I enjoy my trips to the Ty Mad and I strive to provide a great holiday experience for my guests.
Julie Schofield purchased this Cottage in 2004
Why Julie Schofield chose Plénée-Jugon
Ty Mad is located in the pretty countryside of northern Brittany and is within easy access of a number of places. The lakeside town of Jugon-les-lacs is just 5 miles away. It has a heated open air swimming pool and you can go boating on the lake, there is also a selection of good restaurants. The medieval town of Dinan is just under 30 minutes drive, you can look around the many shops or take a boat ride along the river. I like to go on Thursday mornings to the market for the fresh local produce and then have lunch at the artisan creperie. The emerald coast is only 35 minutes drive, there are seven different beaches and you can chose to go to one of the more secluded beaches or you can go to one of the established resorts and take part in activities such as diving or beach volley ball.
What makes this Cottage unique
The cottage stands in half an acre of garden which has the advantage of being centrally located in a village with all the amenities and being secluded as it is hidden from view by surrounding walls. This makes for a peaceful and relaxing holiday with the convenience of the local shops and bars. The village bakery is just round the corner from the cottage and I like to go there in the morning for freshly baked bread and croissants. The central location of Ty Mad also makes it a great place from which to experience French life and culture. There are a number of holiday homes in the village but Plenee-Jugon is still a working French village and there are a number of events which take place throughout the year in Plenee-Jugon and surrounding villages such as musical evenings and cycle races.

Peace and tranquillity
A lovely house with large garden situated in the quiet village of Plenee Jugon. The house is well kept and nicely furnished. We enjoyed watching the bats that fly over the garden as dusk is falling..
The village has two bakeries and a butcher who makes a "Plat du jour", within a few minutes walk from the house and a small supermarket. The coast is less than an hour away and other places to visit such as Jugon les Lacs and Lamballe are close by. The Routier cafe/restuarant at Tramain is well worth a visit.
Thank you for your review. I am pleased you enjoyed your holiday.
Lovely house, gorgeous garden
A delightful house in lovely gardens. Great set up with games books etc and tv too - a home from home
Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your holiday.
The cottage was very well equipped, cosy and comfortable. The garden is really lovely for dogs. Village is very pretty and has everything you need ! Very friendly too. Dinan is within easy reach and beautiful. St Cast on the coast is well worth a visit too. As always in France the food everywhere is wonderful and Brittany is no exception.
We love Plenee Jugon!
Lovely stay with our dogs. Very comfortable accommodation with everything you need. English TV is a bonus if it rains. Fab garden, the village is also well situated with 2 bars and 2 restaurants with in a 5 minute walk. Highly recommended.
Thank you for your review. I am glad you enjoyed your stay.
A comfortable Breton retreat
The property was quite clean and comfortable and well equipped however access is not easy since it involves a fairly steep and very uneven path with no supporting handrail.
I am glad you enjoyed your stay. I am sorry to hear you had a problem with the path. I have put a warning on the web site.
A wonderful, relaxing stay with an enchanting garden.
We were blessed with superb weather for our stay so we made the most of the wonderful garden, and loved the birdsong each morning. The cottage was comfortable and we felt really relaxed after our week. Good too to be able to stroll into the village and find at least one boulangerie open each day for fresh bread and cakes. Not every restaurant was open, but we discovered a great creperie just a short drive away at Dolo. The directions to the cottage were clear and we had no problems either gaining access or during our stay, so it was all very stress free, thanks to Julie and Shirley. Ty Mad was the perfect base for exploring the area which we did not know too well, with the coast and places like Dinan and St Malo within easy reach.
Thank you for your review, I am glad you enjoyed your stay.
The long sandy beaches of the emerald coast are 35 minutes drive away. St. Cast is a blue flag beach and is great for small children there are also lots of other lovely beaches on this coastline. Most of them are good for exploring rock pools and there are impressive walks along the cliffs.
The cottage is only 40 minutes drive away from Dinard airport and 50 minutes from Rennes airport both of which have regular flights from the UK. There are a number of car hire firms operating from the airports and car hire can easily be booked on line before you travel. If you wish to travel in your own car the ferry port of Saint-Malo is just 50 minutes drive.
Jugon-Les-Lacs is just 10 minutes drive away and the historic town of Dinan is 30 minutes away. The village is within two miles of the motorway making it easy to access St-Brieuc and Rennes (Capital of Brittany). It is also easy to visit Paris by high speed rail link from Lamballe.
The village 'patisserie' is just around the corner and there is a supermarket, pharmacist, and cash point machine within easy walking distance.
There are a couple of bars in the village, a cafe which is open at lunch time and a Pizzeria which is open in the evening. In Jugon-Les-Lacs there are a number of restaurants.
There are ten mountain bike cycle tracks of different level and distance situated in and around Jugon. Bikes can be hired from Chalet Sports Nature at Jugon-Les-Lacs. They also provide supervised courses for beginners.
Jugon-Les-Lacs is also a great place for lake and river fishing. The main spots for angling are Lake Jugon and Lake Arguenon, where you are able to catch carp, trout, pike and zander. Fishing permits, boats and lessons in angling are all available from la Maison de la Peche.
