Gorgeous, peaceful 3BR Cayuga Lake cottage-amazing sunsets, convenient location!
- english, spanish
While I am a west-coast transplant, my husband is a Finger Lakes native and we met while both at Cornell. We have numerous personal ties to the area but do not currently reside here full time. While not architecturally new, overall it is very important to us that our home is clean, comfortable, and set up to make enjoyment of the lake easy! We very much want our visitors to enjoy their stay; we enjoy sharing fun local hidden gems to help make a visit even more special, so please ask and we'll be happy to provide ideas that fit your individual interests! Sharing one's home is an exercise in trust; we ask in return that guests treat our home and possessions with care, respect, and responsibility, and to communicate honestly and forthrightly with us.
Michele purchased this House in 2016
Why Michele chose King Ferry
We love this location (can't beat the sunset views!) and the unique feel of the neighborhood. Our neighbors are really friendly and a great community, as you will note in some of the property reviews! It is private and peaceful, and located within easy reach of beautiful hiking trails, wineries, farmer's markets, and two fun college towns. Unlike so many Cayuga Lake cottages that are located on a hill or cliff, there are no tall staircases at Pura Vida, and one feels much more connected to the lake here! Also, unlike some of the other nearby lake access roads, we are on a short, dead-end road so traffic is minimal, the ambiance is peaceful and relaxed, and yet it is quick and easy to get back to the main road to go on the day's adventure!
What makes this House unique
The incredible proximity to the water with the space of the over-water deck is one of our favorite things about this house. The wall of west-facing windows makes the indoor space feel like it extends right out to the lake. We love being able to hear the water from anywhere in the house, and enjoying the view from the deck is so peaceful! The loons seem to like this area and their haunting calls are beautiful background in the evenings; great blue herons can be seen hunting our shoreline, and there is a consistent parade of migratory ducks and geese. Osprey and/or bald eagle sightings are not uncommon! The eastern shore location means that sunset views are spectacular! We love the proximity to Aurora, Ithaca, and the wineries and hiking trails of the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake (while still feeling like we can enjoy a private retreat and enjoyment of nature). There is notably less boat traffic on this part of the lake compared to locations further south. If you bring your boat, it is a fun and easy trip across the lake to the Sheldrake or Thirsty Owl wineries' boat docks, which is the epitome of a Finger Lakes summer: Winery visits and tasting experiences by boat! We are close to several golf courses, Mackenzie-Childs is an easy visit for a unique shopping experience. Treleaven Winery offers lots of fun, family friendly events (check their website) and is just a short 2.5 mile jaunt away. In 2018, Bright Leaf Vineyard opened up just 3/4 of a mile up the hill from the house, so we definitely enjoy the wine country lifestyle.

Was a great place to reconnect with our sons. Close enough to local wineries and hiking! Beautiful view and dock. Would come back.
The process to set up the rental was easy and through. It was very clean and very accessable!
Beautiful house in a quiet spot
The property owners were more than helpful and sent all necessary information very quickly, and responded to messages quickly as well. The house is on a very small road with friendly neighbors and there are plenty of wineries to visit nearby.
The house was immaculate and each room had fans, towels, and even the outlets were in convenient locations for anything you need to plug in.
Deck was very peaceful and had plenty of chairs for all of the guests, and we never wanted to spend any time inside. I can’t recommend the house enough!
We were looking for a peaceful getaway and Pura Vida was the perfect prescription! The house was wonderful and it was great to be able to use the kayaks and SUPs. We had a fantastic week exploring the area: hiking, sightseeing and enjoying the local food and drink. Thanks Michele and Don for the chance to experience lakeside living!
My family and I had a wonderful time at this home! Clean, beautifully decorated, and private
My family and I very much enjoyed this property, it is a lovely cottage with plenty of seating to enjoy a family dinner, a well stocked kitchen so you can cook to your hearts content. It was clean, nicely decorated and comfortable. I would definitely rent here again!
Excellent vacation rental At Pura Vida
This rental. Property was exactly as described. Communication with owner was great and rent was extremely clean. We would stay again. The Biatas 8/2019
Pura Vida's location is really optimal in many ways - we are a short distance down a single lane, packed gravel, private lakeshore road that, in the first half of the 20th century, used to be part of a railroad with train traffic up and down the lake. This road, Fire Lane 6, is a dead end, so there isn't busy through-traffic, making your stay quiet and safe. Unlike many of the other lake neighborhoods that have formed along this former railroad bed, Fire Lane 6 is quite short, and we are only 10-15 houses from the turn to the main road, which means it is quick and easy to go on adventures if desired - no long drives just to reach the main road!
The most convenient regional airports include Ithaca (approximately 25-30 minutes by car), Syracuse (approximately 1.25 hours by car), Elmira (approximately 1.25 hours by car), Rochester (approximately 1.5 hours by car), or Binghamton (approximately 1.5 hours by car). As we are in a rural area, public transportation services are not available and car rental is recommended.
While Pura Vida is in a peaceful rural setting and far enough from the hubbub to be relaxing, the fun college towns of Aurora and Ithaca are within easy striking distance. It is only 8 miles to Wells College in Aurora, or 20 miles to Ithaca College & Cornell University in Ithaca (an easy 30 minute drive through farmland and rolling hills) - easily close enough for special events such as graduations. Three golf courses are nearby (the nearest one is the King Ferry Golf Club only 1/2 mile away!) and we are within easy distance of many state parks and other hiking trails, as well as centrally located to the wineries on the eastern shore of Cayuga Lake (including Treleaven/King Ferry Winery, Bright Leaf Vineyard, Long Point Winery, Heart and Hands Winery).
