About Michele Eagle
Michèle & Steve Eagle. Originally from England, we moved to the Lot area in 2002, immediately putting our skills into use developing and restoring the property and gite and creating a garden. Steve has a business restoring old stone propertiesI and Michèle is a registered well being massage therapist with a treatment room on site.
Why Michele Eagle chose Castelnau-Montratier-Sainte-Alauzie
Having lived in a busy English city, we love the peace, tranquility and above all the space of living in this part of France. The climate is a big bonus, with long hot summers and short winters where you can still see the sun even when it's cold. We love this area as it is so secluded, surrounded by woodland, rolling countryside, vineyards and amazing wildlife. Yet, it is only 7 mins drive from a pretty hilltop village with all the amenities you need and with friendly people. Cahors and other places of historical interest and beauty are all within easy reach.
What makes this Cottage unique
We searched all over the Lot and even into the Dordogne until we found this place. But when we came here we fell in love with it: the pretty traditional stone buildings, the stunning view and its wonderful position, nestled into a south facing wooded hilltop. This is a perfect spot for nature lovers and those like us, who just like to get away from it all but near enough to the local vineyard to top up on the fantastically priced local wine. While you are here why not benefit from a relaxing massage on site from the owner who is a qualified well being massage therapist. Fresh free range eggs from our hens are available on request.

Best stay in France
We've been coming to France for a good number of years and can honestly say this was the best stay of them all. The gite is located conveniently for many well known towns, yet is a wonderfully peaceful retreat ideal for relaxing. Michèle's garden and borders are beautiful and Steve's work on the whole property is absolutely top quality. The pool is in a wonderful position with views for miles across the wide valley in the direction of the Aveyron. We were able to sit outside and eat often looking across the pool and view as there was a heatwave at the time. Despite this, the gite remained cool thanks to the thick walls and one of the most comfy beds we have ever slept in. Availing yourself of one of Michèle's massages in the purpose built studio is highly recommended. Michèle, Steve and Zoé are warm and friendly hosts who respect your privacy, but are always on hand if you have a query or just a chat. We would love to visit again.
Everything we were looking for and more!
Although the website photos were very good, this 'peaceful retreat, salt pool and stunning views' was even better than the images. Michèle, Steve & their daughter, Zoé, were very welcoming with refreshments after a long drive. Michèle has created a stunning garden surrounding the property and Steve's creatively resurrected a ruin into a fabulous place in which stay; their combined skills have resulted in a very special hideaway. Lovely peaceful surroundings in an area full of places to explore. Although we've not rented many properties, this place was better than we'd expected and, should we ever wish to visit the area again, we'd be keeping our fingers crossed that we could book again. A really special home away from home.
Beautiful and peaceful.
We had the pleasure of staying in this beautifully converted building for about ten days at the end of September. It’s rare to find accommodation for two people, at this price, that is as spacious, well appointed and pleasing to the eye. The view from the outside terrace is delightful and the swimming pool is a joy. I’ve never slept better on holiday — the only thing you can hear at night are the owls.
The nearby village of Montpezat is charming, but the location overall is terrific, within easy reach of the Lot, the Aveyron and the Dordogne.
The hosts are kind, discreet and a pleasure to talk to. Wonderful!
Alan and Maria were charming guests and a pleasure to talk to. We really enjoyed having them to stay at Sequepeyre and the time we spent with them. They were very respectful of us and the gite and left it spotlessly clean and tidy. They would be very welcome to stay again.
Pool with a view
Two wonderful weeks at this beautifully restored and modernised barn - just what we needed. Michele and Steve are great hosts - available when needed for any help or queries, but otherwise we were left quite on our own. The pool is always warm and has great views over the valley below. For eating out, there are really good value restaurants locally in Montpezat and Castelnau.
Thanks for a lovely holiday!
We wanted a quiet holiday in the Cahors area to relax, enjoy the beautiful scenery and sample the local food and wine. Here we hit the jackpot. The Gite is well appointed with one of the comfiest beds you could hope to sleep in. The pool is warm and clean, the view is stunning, the gardens beautifully kept and outdoor areas nice and private. The owners Michelle and Steve are extremely friendly and ensure you have a fantastic time. Highly recommended.
Perfect for a couple!
Very well appointed Gite. Beautiful setting. Lovely warm swimming pool. Perfect hosts. Not to be missed! We hope to return.
Nigel and Monica were fantastic guests. We enjoyed our conversations with them and they left the gite impeccably clean and tidy. We would happily welcome them back and hope to see them again.
This property is not near any coasts or seaside beaches but is within 20 minutes of a lake with a small beach. There are also rivers with boating activities throughout the Lot area and the Aveyron, within 40 minutes drive of the gite.
The nearest airport is Blagnac airport in Toulouse which is about 1 1/4 hour drive from here. The use of a car is highly recommended as this area is rural and there are some lovely places to explore in this area not accessible by public transport.
Bergerac and Rodez airports are about 2 hours drive away.
The nearest village of Castelnau-Montratier is about 8km away, which takes about 7 - 8 minutes by car.
Montpezat de Quercy is about 12 minutes by car. Both villages have all the local amenities needed including, shops, bars, restaurants, banks, garages etc.
Cahors is just over 20 minutes drive away, Montauban 30 mins drive and Toulouse about 1 1/4 hour drive.
The local village of Castelnau-Montratier has a small supermarket, bars, restaurants, bakeries, banks, garages and a medical centre. It also has a tourist office, library that often hosts an art exhibition and a large heated outdoor swimming pool. In the summer there is a weekly market in the village square, with local crafts and produce, where you can sit in one of the local bars/restaurants and enjoy a meal and listen to live music.
For golf enthusiasts there is the Golf de Roucours about 15min drive away.
