Exactly what we needed - time to relax in perfect peace and tranquility. The house is in a lovely setting and has a number of seating areas from which to enjoy the scenery. It was full of butterflies due to the surrounding wild meadows and the only noise is that of the tree frogs. The pool is very private and is a good size so ideal for swimming.
Although the house is set well away from everything, there are so many places to visit within reasonable driving distance. We really enjoyed our day in Cahors and visits both up and down the river Lot. There are many bastide villages and also vineyards along the Lot. We've eaten extremely well, and remarkably cheaply bearing in mind the current exchange rate, by taking the menu de jour during the weekday lunchtimes and there are some good restaurants in the area. The Hotel du Query in Lauzerte was very good value at lunchtime and the Vieux Auberge is very good in Cahors.
The house is very well equipped and comfortable. This was our 2nd stay, the first being 4 years ago, and we enjoyed our stay every bit as much as the first time. Thank you to Geoffrey for his welcome and hospitality - we do hope to return again in the not too distant future.
Spacious old farmhouse
We enjoyed our week in the old farmhouse 'Le Sabatou', it is a place to seek out if you wish to enjoy a rural setting away from the noise and hustle of the city, at Le Sabatou you only hear the sounds of birds and insects. The owner lives only a few minutes away and was helpful and attentive. The house is well equipped with plenty of kitchen items, lots of crockery, saucepans etc. and a large fridge. We also appreciated the use of a washing machine. Most of our meals were taken on the front veranda where there is a large dining table shaded from the sun; take the owners advice and bring your groceries with you as there are no stores nearby. The large pool we only used twice but families I can imagine would make better use of it. Not too far away are the lovely bastide towns of Lauzerte and Castelnau Montratier. In Montcuq there is an excellent Sunday morning market and a large food & vegetable one in Cahor on a Wednesday. The sun room was spacious but too warm on really hot days, we didn't use the upstairs bedrooms. Good wifi and a T.V. with satellite stations. In all an excellent stay, thank you Geoffrey.
A very relaxing holiday
We had 2 weeks at Le Sabatou, and found the gite to be everything we had hoped and more. It's setting is ideal, and although you feel that your in the middle of nowhere, only a 15 min drive, and you can be in Cahors, which is a lovely town with so much history. It's a great area to be to get out and explore with places like Rocamadour only just over an hour away. All in all, we had a wonderful time and will definitely be returning as soon as we can. I also just wanted to say how great Geoffrey was. He was so informative about the local area, recommending some great markets and places to visit. Thank you. Look forward to returning next year.
Great house and fab pool
we spent a week here with the family in the hottest weather and were extremely grateful for the pool, which I must point out was bigger than we expected so we could really swim, not just dip into as with some places. The house was lovely and set in beautiful grounds, and the area is stunning, our teenagers loved it as well. Plenty to do and see for all ages. Thank you Geoffrey, we will be back and the only downside is that we should have spent two weeks there!
Very comfortable and spacious house in a really beautiful setting. We both loved it, had everything we wanted and owners very helpful.
We have just spent two weeks at Le Sabatou, a perfect retreat in total seclusion for anyone who appreciates open spaces, nature and walking. The gite is charming and has been thoughtfully arranged to enjoy the views of the countryside. Geoffrey the owner is charming and discrete and was on hand when assistance needed. The swimming pool was perfect and cannot recommend the gite enough.
