About Vicki Burton
I moved to France with my husband in 2012 and rented for a while until we were sure this was the right thing to do. The kids had left home and the dog died so as they say, nothing to stop you from starting a new adventure - and here we are.
Vicki Burton purchased this Cottage in 2013
Why Vicki Burton chose Benest
We explored different areas and viewed trillions of properties until we decided on this place. Accessible by car from the uk ports and well served by budget airlines and its a very lovely part of the world. I feel blessed to live in such a lovely place.
What makes this Cottage unique
Very quiet and peaceful apart from the sound of the occasional tractor and the local bird population. Owls are my favorite and of course the cranes make their bi-annual crossing overhead signalling the start and end of summer. Really amazing. Woodpeckers and hoopoes are frequent visitors and red squirrels are also resident which make me ridiculously happy. At night, the stars are wonderfully bright as there is no light pollution. A true rural idyll away from the hustle and bustle should you need to recharge your batteries and just chill whilst remaining close enough to the nearby towns for necessities and local markets.

Fantastic Gite in a peaceful location, with kind and helpful hosts, Very relaxing and enjoyable.
We loved the gite from the moment we stepped through the door. It was well equipped and it felt like a home from home.So much so we didn't want to leave and plan to return again soon.
Vicki was warm and welcoming, very helpful with local info and was available when needed.
We had our own part of the garden, with lots of places to sit in the sun or shade and enjoy the peace and quiet with a glass or two of Pineau.
This was the peaceful, rural holiday we were hoping for, a great place to relax and unwind.
A very peaceful, well-equipped Gite offering every opportunity to unwind and relax into the holiday
This Gite is just what we hoped for; a chance to relax in rural France in a beautiful setting. Vicki was most welcoming, considerate: helpful, friendly and available without being in anyway intrusive. My wife and I were looking for a holiday in a quieter location; a chance to walk, read, explore by car a bit and enjoy each others company.
The Gite was contemporary, comfortable and the kitchen was very well equipped. The BBQ and extensive garden with tables and chairs in different locations (giving various views and sun/shade) enabled us to enjoy most of our time outdoors.
All in all a welcoming, peaceful, beautifully rural holiday location giving every opportunity to unwind, relax and reconnect.
Relaxing holiday at St Tierre, Charente
First class Gite, interior fittings and soft furnishings of the highest quality. Lots of outdoor space, places to sit in the sun or the shade.
Very rural location, minimal noise.
Amazing night skies, no light pollution what so ever.
Owner Vicki very helpful, not at all intrusive which made our stay extremely pleasant and relaxing.
Would recommend to people seeking peace and quiet.
Perfect place to relax
This Gite is really the perfect place to relax. We came here already for the 2nd time and it might not be the last time.
The rooms are so cozy and comfortable, the kitchen unbelievable clean and well equipped. Huge garden to sun or to sit in the shadows.
We used this site as our home base to visit Bordeaux, Poitiers, Oradour sur Glane, the beaches of the cote sauvage (le Phare de la Coubre, la Tremblade), ... and of course to have some lazy days as well.
If you require gluten-free meals: the supermarkets will supply you well enough.
Summary: 2 weeks are simply to short !
We had a magical week
Even when the weather was damp/misty we were so happy to stay indoors sitting at the window looking over the garden. It was so quiet we spent a long time listening to the birds and watching the cows, it could not have been a better location all the walks were great and I enjoyed walking and sitting in the garden. The large room and large bedroom are so well furnished; decorated and the attention to detail was a joy. The welcoming fruit and wine were a wonderful way to start stay and it was good to meet Vicky and her husband . We would certainly return. Carole and Ian from London june 2018
Tranquil getaway with all the mod cons and boutique comfort
Wow wow what a fabulous place and hosts. Our 'gite' was excellent, I miss it already and we only left this morning! So quiet and tranquil with all the mod cons and beautifully decorated. Vicki has a great information pack on the local area and freesat TV so you get all the UK channels you need. We caught the ferry from Portsmouth and drove down from St Malo. We went with our 8 month old and she loved it. No wonder they get so much repeat business, we will 100% be back again.
The beaches at La Rochelle and Royan are worth a visit but it's a good hour and half drive.
It is a french tradition to create artificial beaches by rivers and lakes, both natural and man made. One of the largest is found in an area known as Les Lacs de Haute Charente about 45 mins drive.
