About Rob and Jan Wagstaff
Rob and Jan retired from their professional lives to pursue their passion for gardening. They have created a magical garden which they and their guests thoroughly enjoy. Rob and Jan were keen walkers, and Rob also used to dive: where better to live than a traditional old farmhouse in south Devon, near to both the sea and the open spaces of Dartmoor. The mild climate is also a bonus.
Rob and Jan Wagstaff purchased this Cottage in 1980

Wonderful escape
We've just arrived back after a wonderfully relaxing stay at 'The Granary.' We were welcomed by the friendly owners and then shown around the property. Jan and Rob have gone out of their way to make the cottage a comfortable home away from home. Everything you need is there.... eggs, butter, bread, milk etc were also a thoughtful touch. The gardens are beautiful and guests are encouraged to wander around them should you wish. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Beautiful place
Unfortunately due to a family bereavement we were only able to stay 2 out of our 7 night at the Granary. We were made to feel very welcome and the setting was idyllic. We will certainly rebook at a date in, hopefully, the not too distant future.
A beautiful and very well kept house with a beautiful garden that you could wonder around.
The hosts were very attentive and nothing was too much trouble. The cottage is absolutely beautiful and equipt will every thing you needed..Its proberly the first place first place we have stayed where we have not needed any thing for the kitchen. It is well recommended with the stunning garden and cottage and the peace and quite. It is also not far away from any where. We will be back again.
Blissful ! Peaceful and tranquil property set in beautiful gardens and surroundings.
We were greeted by Jan and Rob on our arrival at The Granary and immediately were made to feel welcome and told no area was out of bounds, their garden was our garden feel free to wander. The Granary inside was well equipped and beautifully maintained inside with the bedroom on the ground floor and living space on the 1st floor overlooking beautiful lawns with well stocked borders. Each morning and evening on our return we enjoyed sitting on the patio area watching and listening to the birds and occasionally we could hear the rare sound of a vehicle ! On the warm Summer mornings you could be forgiven for thinking you were in France as you sit having breakfast outside watching the Swifts swoop in to the outbuildings through the window with insects as food for their young.
Jan and Rob would leave us to our enjoy our stay but would pop by to check and see if were okay and ask if there was anything we needed. They proudly gave us a tour of their most beautiful gardens and grounds which are to die for. They acknowledged our love for the gardens and recommended a visit to 'The Garden House' and ' The Wildside' in Buckland Monachorum, Yelverton in Devon, the latter being open only on select days of the year, thankfully and luckily during the week of our holiday!
Our stay at The Granary was delightful and what Jan and Rob have achieved here is amazing and beautiful, it was an absolute pleasure that we were allowed to share their property and grounds if only for the week. We hope to visit again. Thank you.
Little gem
We wanted a quiet relaxing week and the Granary really delivered. A ‘home from home’ in perfect surroundings. All the comforts of home. Exceptionally clean and the owners were lovely. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone. xxxx

Coast/Beach:
Sited in the middle of the South Hams peninsular of South Devon, The Granary has beaches to the east, south and west, all within half an hour at most by car. Some are sandy, some shingle, and some have highly-recommended cafes.
Travel:
The South Hams has good travel links: the airport at Exeter is 50 minutes drive. The M5 and A38 dual carriageway link the area to the rest of the UK motorway network, and there is a main line train station 5 miles away at Totnes. Travelers from mainland Europe can take a cross-channel ferry to Plymouth, 20 miles from the cottage. A car is essential for travel once you arrive in the area.
Distances:
Exeter and Plymouth are each about 20 miles away. The historic towns of Totnes, Dartmouth and Kingsbridge are each 5 - 8 miles away. The southern edge of Dartmoor, just over 10 miles away, provides excellent walking, as well as many features of archaeological interest.
Further Details:
There are horse riding, fishing, boating and water sports available in the area, as well as many beautiful walks on the South Coast Path. The world famous nature reserve at Slapton is 7 miles away
The area has many gardens open to the public, castles and historic houses to explore, and medieval towns and old ports to visit, and beautiful coast and countryside just to relax in.
Devon is famous for its food. We are surrounded by suppliers of locally grown fruit and vegetables, by butchers selling Red and South Devon beef and Dartmoor lamb, fishmongers selling the morning catch from the fishing port of Brixham, bakers of real bread, and cheese makers. We have good food markets and excellent places to eat. You can try a pub half a mile away known for its steaks, to restaurants in Dartmouth specialising in fish, to a 2-Michelin star restaurant on Dartmoor, and many more besides.
