The view you see is the view you will get. This well equipped house has a wonderful bay window in the living room and a rooftop bedroom suite with very large terrace with stunning views. Close to Menorca's southern sandy beaches and approximately 3 km east of the capital Mahon. The house is an excellent base for people who want to explore the island and enjoy probably one of best locations for summer evenings out on Menorca. The delightful waterside promenade for daytime or evening strolls is just below the house. The numerous cafes entice you to sit down for a cup of coffee or drink a Mahon gin and tonic. There is a good selection of shops, supermarkets, banks (inc ATMs), restaurants and bars (no loud music) favoured by locals and tourists alike within a few minutes walk, that are open the whole year round. While there is no beach at Es Castell there are secluded places to take a swim nearby. There are sunbathing platforms at lovely Cala Padera, within a 10 minute walk from the house. There is a network of pretty camis (little country roads) with villages and hamlets to explore on foot or bicycle. A popular diving centre is just 15 min drive away. The distance to the airport is only 7 km.

About Rene van der Weijden
The first time we experienced Menorca was when we were looking for a property what was far away from our work in The Netherlands and where we could relax with our children and enjoy good weather conditions. We were tipped by someone who knew the house named Cariño in Es Castell for 25 years and saw it was for sale. So we went to Menorca, and yes, it was love at first sight! The view is never boring, Es Castell is never sleeping, the coast is always nearby, the people always nice, the food formidable... After 13 years there one thing we know, we will never sell our Cariño home and even our grown-up children still enjoy going there with friends. A never ending story for our family and all the friends who join us there.
Rene van der Weijden purchased this House in 2002
Why Rene van der Weijden chose Es Castell
The location is one of the best you can imagine to relax and enjoy the local atmosphere. The local people ensure a lively atmosphere all year round. The main square, with weekly markets and festival activities (like Fiesta de San Juan at the end of July), is only minutes walk from the house. Saunter over the promenade at Calas Fonts harbour just below the house and enjoy the atmosphere of the people, restaurants, bars and shops.
What makes this House unique
This house has the advantage of being in a small town, close to the main square and the harbour. The magnificent view over the harbour and all the ships that pass by on their way to Mahon. There is always something to see and to do. The village Es Castell doesn't sleep. Most of the shops stay open the whole year around. The house is convenient the whole year long.

The best placeto be in Menorca
We come in Menorca for 15 years. Thuis was the best house we ever had. Magnificent views, well decorated house, well equipped clean house.
Very stylish property in an amazing setting
I have been to Menorca several times and rented various properties from family Villas to Apartments. I rented this property because of its location in Cales Fonts as its my favourite part of the Island. On entering the property you are met with a beautiful large dinning area and very well equipped kitchen, everything you could possibly need for your stay, we even decided to eat in on a couple of occasions. You move to the first floor to a stunning lounge with large windows all around the room, very spacious and looking right out to the bay, on one day we had thunder and lightening and happily played scrabble and drank wine sat looking out of the large windows at the storm. 2 lovely bedrooms and large bathroom. You then move up to the second floor to a large bedroom and the absolutely most stunning sun terrace ...what a view its breathtaking in my opinion. The whole house is decorated with lovely artwork and quirky things like a huge chandelier of wine glasses. Just fabulous !! Everything you need, a real home from home. Rene provided a beautifully written information booklet that covered everything you could need to know about Menorca and of course the property. All these little touches make the difference, a lovely bottle of Cava on arrival nice coffee machine for an espresso after dinner I honestly didn't want to leave.
A beautiful haven so close to the bay you didn't even need to go out, we sat on our balcony on an evening soaking up the atmosphere, drinking Cava. Of course all the restaurants are great and we loved Trebol as well as the Lemon Bar. What a priviledge to stay in this wonderful home, we will certainly be back and could not recommend it more, a jewel to find.

Our second visit, this is an ideal place for views, bars, places to eat and if you don't have a car there is a taxi rank close by and a bus stop not too far.
We had a couple of minor problems but these were swiftly dealt with by the excellent agent. Thank you!!
Thank you for being our guests again! We're very pleased to have so many guests who are renting our house several times. We're also pleased you have had a very nice stay with the same good experience of our house and Minorca as you had last year. We will transfer your compliments to our property management and hope to see you again next year.

Stairway to Paradise?
Way back George Gerswin wrote the show An American in Paris. In that show was the now famous tune/song 'I'll build a stairway to Paradise. Perhaps he didn't know about this property and the 'dicovery of climbing stairs 'til you reach the roof terrace. "Begin today, you'll find it nice, the quickest way to Paradise" The location of the property is excellent and, with the exception of a few maintenance issues (quickly resolved) we could find nothing to complain about. We only spent 10 days but will return, sadly not to the property as it is already booked. The owners have done everything they can to ensure that a stay is as enjoyable as possible. We were directed by the owners of Bar Lemon (an absolue must) to the 'Red Tomato' opposite the taxi rank where brilliant Italian food is served at reasonable cost. It may not be the property for young children but most certainly for discerning adults!

We totally agree😄
Home from home with fantastic views and location
The house was fully equipped to a high standard, air conditioning in all 3 bedrooms ( very important as the temperatures were high 30,s ) above one of the most picturesque bays in the whole of Spain, we timed the visit perfect as it was Es Castell fiesta, the horses passed the front door and had a fantastic view of the closing fireworks. All in all an absolute 10 out of 10 and would fully recommend to anyone wishing to stay in Menorca.
Thank you very much. It's a pleasure to hear you enjoyed your holiday in our home.
Perfect property for us!
This property couldn't be in a better position, for views, access to bars and restaurants and local shops. It is very well equipped and catered for, also the beds are very comfortable. The agents are local and helpful, if needed. The best bit is the sun terrace, you won't want to leave it! We met the owners Frederike and Rene who were very charming. We hope to return next June.
Thank you very much for this great review. Yes, everything is so nearby, you even don't need a car. It was also nice meeting you both.
We hope you will return in Menorca.
Special interest holidays:
Menorca is the least spoilt and most tranquil of the Balearic Islands, and has the most beaches. The uncrowded beaches, the beautiful countryside with stone walls, combined with good food, makes Menorca a place you will want to visit again and again.
Menorca is ideal for walking with the sign-posted Cami De Cavalls providing scenic walking paths close to the coast around the Island. The paths are also suitable for mountain bikes. Kayaking, horse riding, diving, birdwatching..., you can do whatever you want on this remarkable island. All these cultures have left their mark on the island and numerous monuments to visit. So pack your bags and come enjoy this Balearic paradise!
