About Jeremy Moiser
Owned by a fun loving family who have owned the house for fifteen years and are now ready to share their loved and peaceful home with others. We are world travellers but Riviere was so irresistible that we bought a house and have very many happy memories.
Jeremy Moiser purchased this Cottage in 2002
Why Jeremy Moiser chose Rivière
Stunning setting allowing you to have total peace or, walk, bike, kayak into the town of Chinon for great meals and local wine while watching the world go by. Great access by rail, plane and motorway networks within 13 km.
What makes this Cottage unique
no through traffic, as La Petite Ruelle is too narrow for cars!

Comfortable house with everything we needed.
Close to the river and in the quiet village of Riviere I was able to make much use of my Kayak. Chinon is within walking (or cycling distance and is a beautiful town surrounded by vineyards. The balcony is a great place to watch the Swallows and Swifts whilst enjoying breakfast.
The only disappointment is that the shower room does not have an extractor, allowing humidity to build up in the hot weather experienced during our stay.
We had a wonderfully relaxed time at this airy and bright old house. Spent the evenings sitting on the balcony listening to the hundreds of birds singing and watching the swallows flying. Not a single human sound and no street lights.
Comfortable house in idyllic riverside village location
Very helpful English owner provided all necessary information. The house was very clean on our arrival and although the kitchen equipment is fairly basic it had everything we needed including some useful groceries left in the cupboard. Two good double bedrooms and a sofa-bed in the main room (we didn't use it). Good bed linen and towels provided.
The village is tiny and has few facilities, but there are plenty of shops a few km away on the road to Chinon. There's a good SuperU supermarket on the way in to Chinon, and a huge new Leclerc on the northern outskirts.
The house is very close to a fascinating church, and less than 100 metres from the lovely river Vienne with extensive riverside walks.
All in all, a great stay and exceptional value for money. There are a few things you should be aware of:
- effective shower, but no bath
- house is reached via an external staircase and the internal stairs are fairly steep, so it's inappropriate for anyone with mobility issues
- nearest vehicle access is about 40 metres away in the church square, so you need to carry your bags in
None of these things detracted from our stay, and we can wholeheartedly recommend this property.
The surrounding area is well known for its chateaux, wine, and troglodytic dwellings; Rivière is a great base for exploring the Loire valley west of Tours.
Very tranquil stay
The property is well equipped with everything you need for a relaxing stay. The terrace is a real sun trap and you can have your breakfast and dinner in the sunshine. We used the bikes provided which were fantastic for cycling into Chinon and there is a boulongerie closeby where you can get croissants and bread. The river is a stones throw away and you can cycle along it into Chinon. We hired canoes and camped down the river one day which I highly recommend. I’ve really enjoyed our stay here!
A stay in rural France.
A real slice of French rural life in a mediaeval French village.
Comfortable and well equipped house yards from the historic church, square and river.
Great place to stay.
Our property is 5½-6 hours' drive from the Tunnel. The nearest airport is Tours (Ryan Air), less than an hour away. The cottage is in the village of Rivière, three miles from the shops and supermarkets in Chinon, so a holiday there without a car would be possible: by air, then train to Chinon, taxi to the property and then bike during your stay. For those coming from the North of England, P&O sail from Hull overnight into Zebruggee, which is six hours’ drive from the property via Rouen.
The property is three miles from Chinon and less than an hour from Tours. There are a number of very pretty châteaux and gardens, less than an hour's drive away, and an excellent zoo (Zooparc de Beauval) less than two hours away with the most amazing bird display.
There is a smart new branch of Leclerc on the outskirts of Chinon, about ten minutes' drive away, and a small supermarket in the town square which stays open later (and is open on Sundays). Locally, there is an excellent bakery about five minutes' drive (or twenty minutes’ cycle-ride). We have four bikes available at the house for guest use. While there is no charge for this, we ask that guests maintain the bikes, pump up tyres etc if needed.
To get to Chinon by bike or on foot, you have four options: on a track along by the river; on a track through the vineyards; on a cycle-path/pavement beside the main road; on the old newly-converted railway track which runs between Chinon and Richelieu, accessible 200 metres on the other side of the main road - tarmac all the way!
