A Real Coastal Retreat with two bedrooms, one ensuite and a family bathroom
About Ian Simmons
We are both retired and live in Derbyshire.
Ian Simmons purchased this Cottage in 2014
Why Ian Simmons chose Morpeth
Having lived in the North East of England when we were first married we have continued holidaying in the area since we moved away. With more time available to us we found Lyme Cottage which we think of as an idyllic coastal retreat.
What makes this Cottage unique
We really enjoy the unspoilt natural beauty of the Northumberland Heritage coastline.

Stunning property and location
Wonderful stay at Lyme Cottage. Amazing location with unspoilt views of the sea with the private path to the beach an added bonus. Loved the garden and loved feeling secluded and away from the crowds. A short distance to the beautiful Alnmouth and Warkworth plus not far from Alnwick Castle. Loved our stay as a family, everything we needed. Definatley recommend, a must place to stay in this area.
Lovely stay on Northumberland coast
Lyme Cottage is lovely. Spotlessly clean, well equipped in a lovely spot with side views of the coast. Quiet little collection of a few cottages, with a private path down to the coast less than 10 minute walk. Would definitely recommend and would stay again, everything has been done to a very high standard.
Our holiday in Lyme cottage
Beautiful setting, a warm, clean and a cosy place to come back to in the evening.
The cottage is well equipped, everything we needed. .
Such an unspoiled area, beaches and countryside, much to see in the areas roundabout.
All positive no negative, we would all love to visit again.
Beautiful cottage...a must stay!
Spent 4 nights in this lovely cottage. It stands within 3 other houses/cottages, and is so quiet and peaceful. Parking space straight outside was great.
The house has all mod cons and makes cooking easy if you don’t want to venture out in the evening. The double bed downstairs is comfy and the shower in the en suite is powerful and hot. Didn’t use the upstairs bedroom or bathroom as there was only 2 of us staying. The upstairs bathroom doesn’t have a shower, but does have a bath. WiFi worked fine. The house was nice and warm. Weather was really cold and windy so the fire in the lounge was lovely after a few hours of walking. The sofas aren’t very comfortable at all which was a shame, but that is the only bit of criticism I would have about the whole place.
The back garden is great for the winter months if you like stargazing as we do. Northumberland definitely has some of the best dark skies!
We walked in to Warkworth and it took us 30-40 minutes (while fighting against the strong winds). Couple of nice pubs in the village and a visit to Warkworth castle is a must if you like history. The cottage is a great base to explore other parts of Northumberland. Amble is only a 5-10 minutes drive and has more shops and supermarkets.
We had a fantastic stay and loved spending 4 nights in this homely cottage. Get it booked ...you won’t regret it.
Amazing property, fantastic location
Great house, good size and walkable to the beach. Amazing.
Absolutely outstanding property.
We spent 3 nights in this beautiful cottage, using it as a base to explore Northumberland. Lyme Cottage was spotlessly clean when we arrived and fully equipped with everything you could possibly require for your stay. The property is a credit to it's owners and as for the location....simply stunning! Will definitely recommend to friends and family and would without doubt, stay there again if in the area.
The sandy beach of Killiecrankie is accessible via a private pathway from the cottage. It can be reached in less than 10 minutes.
Alnmouth Beach is about 3 miles away by road and like Killiecrankie is one of the many popular stretches of sand that form the Northumberland coastline, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.
Newcastle Airport is approximately 30 miles south of the property.
There is a railway station at Alnmouth which is 2.5 miles from the cottage.
A number of London to Edinburgh trains stop at Alnmouth as well as local services to and from Newcastle.
There is a regular bus service between Newcastle and Berwick with stops within half a mile of the property.
Warkworth 1 mile
Alnmouth 3 miles
Alnwick 5 miles
Amble 3 miles
Newcastle 30 miles
Alnmouth and Warkworth have small village stores and a number of pubs/restaurants. Alnwick is a market town with two supermarkets, a discount store and a number of banks. It also has a Leisure Centre with swimming pool and of course Alnwick Castle and Gardens.
There are four golf courses within 10 miles of the property
