The Millhouse Sleeps 7 (3bedrooms)"Truly magical".This is the French dream come true." - A Peaceful and Rural Location Yet Close To Brittany's Highlight Visitor Spots
About Laura Mayall
Hi there, My name's Laura. I am the owner of Le moulin de Launay. I fell in love with the place the moment I laid eyes on it and spent 15 years living in France while I renovated it with my husband. When my daughter was born we moved back to the UK, so now I have wonderful caretakers over there to look after the houses and the animals. It's a gorgeous part of France. I hope you have a wonderful time there. Kindest regards, Laura.

We had paid our final payment when one week before we left Australia we were told it had been double booked. They have it with Air bnb and Home Away.
Facilities were not good. Terrible oven, couldn’t get the dishwasher started.
The girl who was looking after it, Mandie, was terrific
I heard that you all had a wonderful stay, that you seemed very happy with everything and that both husbands were particularly pleased to have been given two properties for the price of one.
The double bookings we experienced were due to a technical error between Home Away and Airbnb online calendars, not at all our fault and luckily we spotted the error in plenty of time and we were willing and able to allow you to stay in two properties without charging you any of the additional rental fees.
The oven was working for the guests before you, but when it broke down during your stay we replaced the day after which is as fast as could be expected. I hope you managed with the hob and microwave in the interim. The dishwasher was and is working fine. You could have asked for instructions on how to work it if you were stuck. Mandie, who as you say, is indeed very terrific, is there to help guests with any difficulties they might have, day or night.
Le Moulin is a magical place. It's sad and, I think, unfair that your review seems based on your experience of two of the electrical items at the property when there is so much else there to love.
Lovely location, property a bit tired and unloved - could be special
Firstly let me say the location was beautifully tranquil and perfect for exploring the local area. We had a great time. There were however some issues with the house we wanted to address with the owner.
We noted from previous reviews that they had had contact with persons managing the house. We never met them whilst there - not really a problem but it would've been nice to know who we could approach.
The general cleanliness of the house was poor. My father had to clean their shower in the top room. The downstairs shower was also filthy and had to be cleaned. The oven was disgusting - my wife cleaned it because we couldn't use it as it was. Not sure what the "crew" of cleaners actually clean!
The first thing we noticed was that the towels in all the rooms were damp, as was the bedding. We had to dry it all before we could use it. I think it had all been tumble-dried and then put out hot but it had not fully dried.
In the top suite the toilet was loose and rocked forward when sat on. The shower unit had a loose handrail which is obviously dangerous - my Dad isn't the most stable on his feet!
The Cloud room has the most poorly fitted carpet I've ever seen - and I used to fit them! It was so poor it could be dangerous especially in the middle of the night after a few Normandy ciders! In the bathroom the toilet seat was loose. There was also a wall light hanging against the wall by its wires. The carpet in the third bedroom was just as bad.
In the kitchen as stated the oven was filthy. The microwave does not heat anything up, it runs but doesn't actually heat. The fridge is woefully small for a house which sleeps six - some of our food was going off by the middle of the week because the fridge couldn't cope with food for six.
The front door only locks from the inside. We had to lock it, exit the back door, lock that, and walk round the house to go out.
Various light bulbs needed replacing - we couldn't find any spares.
The downstairs shower head was broken and fell apart when touched. The shower tray did not drain properly and overflowed if you spent any time in there.
There was no iron or ironing board - we had to buy an iron for the week. A clothes horse would've been useful but admittedly not essential.
There was also no splash pool - a great disappointment for the kids!
Overall the house has massive potential and it has a lovely welcoming feel to it. It's just starting to look tired and unloved. We tried contacting the owner but heard nothing.
I am so grateful for all your time and effort with this message. I have only had good reviews all year, so none of these problems have been highlighted before. I am booking a flight now and will find out what's going on and get all these things rectified straight away. Nikki, please accept my apologies. I hope the issues you had didn't spoil your time in France.
We are redecorating throughout this Autumn so please come back again soon. Get in touch and I'll give you a special rate. Emails via OD will reach me.
Beautiful traditional French property in idyllic surroundings
We had a fantastic weeks stay here and were warmly greeted by Gerard who had cooked us a bolognaise for our first night accompanied by some wine and cider. He was always on hand to help as was Laura the owner if we had any queries. The property is beautiful and very well equipped and well kept. There is a lot to do in the surrounding area both for children and adults and we will definitely be returning! Thank you for a brilliant stay
Super Farmhouse. Great Holiday
On arriving Gerard and Honey were there to meet us. It was a little chilly and they had made sure the house was warm for us.
The house was great. Very traditionally French and very clean, with everything we needed. A great free standing bath that was used many times with the French Windows open looking outside into the garden area.
We spent a week there with our dog Ted who loved it. He was able to roam about the grounds and made a little doggie friend who belonged to Honey and Gerard.
Honey and Gerard were great hosts always making sure we had everything we needed and helped us arrange seeing the vet for Teds tapeworm tablets to return home. They even had us round for dinner one night that was cooked by Gerard.
This area is beautiful and there were so many things to see and do. Info is in the house of what there is.
Lovely relaxing holiday in this super house.
Lorraine, Steve and Ted
Thank you so much for your kind words. We're very happy to know you enjoyed being here as much as we enjoyed having you stay. We hope you will return some day.
Ted was an absolute delight!
dogs 'n all (continued)
There are plenty of decent restaurants in all the places already mentioned and we tended to use them for lunch and then bring back local produces for a light evening meal.
Overall, this property is just heaven and a relaxing place in the evenings to be after spending long days traipsing around the tourist sights.
Superbly run by Darren and Wendy who are both a credit to the industry and top notch hosts
Living the French countryside dream - dogs 'n all
We arrived at 1630 on our booking in day to be professionally and warmly greeted by Darren and Wendy the on-site managers, maintenance and go-to couple. Their warmth towards us and enthusiasm for the property and the job they do was very evident and got us off to a great start.
We had been allocated the Mill house section of the building which compromised of a fantastically large French country style kitchen, a dining room, a living room and a living room completing the ground floor.
Up on flight of the wide wooden staircase you enter a huge double bedroom with a 4 poster bed and en-suite bathroom with a separate roll top bath. Up one more flight of the wonderful wooden stair case is another large double room also with en-suite.
Being just the 2 of us along with our 2 black labrador dogs, we didn't do the property justice in regards with the use of it i.e. the living and dining rooms were not used at all in our 7 days there.
It is ideal for families or larger groups (there is an option to open up another double room attached to the first floor).
The grounds outside are secure giving those that have dogs or young children piece of mind. The grass area is of a good size (plenty of room for the dogs to run around) and well stocked with decent quality wooden furniture. Should you require a bit of privacy, the kitchen patio style back doors lead onto a more secluded area.
It was lovely to see the 10 or so chickens wandering around and they are lovingly cared for by Darren and Wendy and produce some great tasting eggs which we purchased. All money goes back into feeding and care of the birds.
On request a splash pool, BBQ and other items can be provided and to sit outside in the communal front area watching the glorious sunsets will remain in our memories.
Shopping day by day locally was simple with Carrefour and Intermarche supermarkets just a few miles away in the small town of Pontorson which also had a decent choice of Butchers, bakeries etc.
The vets were also located in Pontorson and it is worth getting their number to book an appointment if you are returning to the UK straight after your time at Le Moulin de Launay. English is spoken there and the cost for having the 2 dogs done for the pet passport scheme was just under 60 euros plus the cost of worming tablets ( we provided our own )
The location of the property means that most of the sights such as St Malo, Dinard, Dinan, Mont St Micheal, Foureges etc etc are no more than 30 mins.
Dear Jem & Lucille
Thank you for your comments, they're very much appreciated.
We really enjoyed having you stay here, along with your two lovely well behaved dogs and we always looked forward to our daily chats.
Hopefully it won't be too long before you come back for another holiday.
Wendy & Darren
We are superbly situated for visiting both the beaches to the west, such as Granville and also the beaches to the east such as St Malo.
Both are about 40 minutes of driving along lovely coastal roads.
The coastline around Plage Verger (40 minutes away) has many different sandy coves to explore. A great day out.
There are several airports in Brittany serving destinations in Europe. TGV train services link the region with cities such as Paris, Lyon, Marseille, and Lille in other regions of France. In addition there are ferry services that take passengers, vehicles and freight to the Republic of Ireland, the United Kingdom, and the Channel Islands.
Our quaint village is only a short stroll away along the pretty lanes that run through the rolling countryside. The village has a small bar. 20 minutes walk.
Trans La Foret
Great boulangerie and the beautiful Ville Cartier Forest with its lakeside restaurant, parcour, (climbing trees on wires) boating lake, pony rides and kid’s adventure playground. 40 minutes walk.
From casual pavement cafes to superb Michelin starred world class restaurants. For traditional Breton Fayre, try Sarrasin gallettes. and a mug of local cider. Jean Marc and Lawrence are the proud owners of our nearest restaurant which provides casual food in a casual atmosphere. A favourite restaurant with many of our visitors is La Cour Verte where you can watch as your choice of local meat is roasted on an open fire. Non-meat loving options are available too! For seafood lovers Cancale is a must. The pretty coastal town is dedicated to fabulous restaurants selling the very best seafood in the world.
Grab some culture and learn about the history of the area. The medieval museum in Dol de Bretagne has great displays.
St Malo aquarium is one of the best aquariums in Europe. You can sing in a yellow submarine and watch in awe as a shark swims over your head.
There are plenty around to visit and explore. Combourg is the most famous in the area and has a lovely lawns for picnicking. No visit to France is complete without a visit to one of the stunning chateaus.
Exploring Brittany by bicycle is just lovely. The speed of travel really suits the tranquil environment and gives you chance to see things that you could otherwise miss. No need to bring your own, we hire bikes.
Close by on the flat sands of Cherieux, you’ll find top class sand-yachting.
Whatever it is that you love doing on holiday, you’re pretty sure to find it nearby. . .
When you arrive you’ll be given a visitor’s pack with up to date information about the area and lots of ideas of what there is to do here. Whether it’s a reservation for a romantic dinner for two at a great restaurant or directions to the best out-of-the-way sandy coves, your nearby hosts will be happy to help.
