The hosts Kate and Kostis offer a wonderful hospitable stay in their house.
This is a very comfortable home with lovely garden and far reaching views over Heraklion to the sea.
We visited Heraklion, Knossos and the wine producing area to the south. Generous gifts of wine and food from Kate and Kostis made the experience all the more special.
A picture perfect apartment and extremely hospitable hosts. I felt as though I was part of the family. Thank you so much! I would love to stay again and for much longer!
Thank you Elaine
This is a first class property, perhaps even better in reality than illustrated in the publicity. The hosts are marvellous, with just the right degree of availability and advice if needed, but discreet if not. Katie's generous and excellent hospitality, with the provision of baking, is beyond expectation. All facilities are excellent and the views from the house are subliminal. This property cannot be praised highly enough.
A gorgeous peaceful retreat with everything you could ask for!
We knew that staying here would be magical, but it really exceeded any expectations! The view is magnificent, the apartment cozy and well-equipped for preparing beautiful food harvested from Kati and Kostis's orchard below. They are warm and wonderful hosts who are sharing their home and all of their labors of love with you - from the freshly baked spanikopita that awaits you upon arrival and the kind touches that grace this apartment, from the spa robes, treadmill and free weights, to the handy laundry area that helped us recharge our wardrobe after so much travel. We would love to return to this village of Vasilies in a heartbeat.
A wee gem
Excellent apartment very cosy beautiful furnishings but most of all the owners are kind, generous, extra helpful and truly wonderful people. Would highly recommend this property. Miles and Maureen
Thank you very much Maureen!!
A perfect spot
The best appointed apartment we have ever stayed in. Amazing views. Total privacy and wonderful Cretan food arriving from our hosts from time to time! The perfect place.
Thank you very much Maggie! We are glad you had a good time!
The apartment is situated 10 kilometers from Heraklion centre and the local airport. The nearest sandy beaches are approximately 12km away while other magnificent beaches are situated 20-40 minutes away.
***A few words about Heraklion region***
Heraklion is Crete’s main entrance hub and is situated at the center of the island (north shore). The Minoan Palace of Knossos lies in the city’s outskirts while the archaeological museum boasts a large collection of Minoan artifacts from all over Crete. Although Heraklion is a bustling city, the calm and picturesque countryside, only a few minutes away by car will take you back in time. In the region's villages you will enjoy authentic Cretan cuisine made with quality local olive oil and other local produce. A winery tour will allow you to experience the island’s wine-making tradition, going back thousands of years. During the day you can enjoy swimming and sunbathing in numerous sandy beaches lying in the north and south of the region. Heraklion is therefore a must stop during a multi-day island tour. It is also a convenient base for a short trip to Crete since one can easily combine visits to historical sites with great swimming opportunities and culinary delights.
***What to do in Heraklion***
For history and archaeology enthusiasts the starting point of the tour is Knossos, the largest Bronze Age archaeological site on Crete, also called Europe's oldest city. Heraklion's archeological museum displays exhibits dating back to the Neolithic era in 3,500 BC while the medieval fortress of Koules ("Castello a Mare"), situated in Heraklion’s port is a reminder of the town's medieval past. Furthermore, the Historical Museum exhibits items from the 4th century AD up to and including the Second World War. The Natural History museum exhibits the diverse flora and fauna of the Eastern Mediterranean region. The Cretan Aquarium will allow you to take a glimpse of the marine life inhabiting the waters surrounding the island.
During the evening you can visit one of the numerous small restaurants ("Rakadika") situated in the town’s old center (near the Morozini fountain), which serve delicious variety plates along with Cretan spirit "Raki". And if you are up to it you can continue your night out until the early morning hours in one of the local bars and clubs.
