Etlan A-frame With Front View Of Old Rag Mountain.

Bedrooms 1
Space 65 m²
Property type chalet
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps with some creativity.

This 2010 construction A-Frame is ideal for a couple or small family who want to enjoy Old Rag Mountain, Shenandoah National Park, local Vineyards, Graves Mountain Lodge, Virginia farm country and other local attractions or have otherwise need to visit this area.

Right now we are in the middle of a patio project which has made a huge mess in the side yard. There will be evidence of recent excavation & re-seeding up thru July or so.

This will add a hot tub & a new fire pit and pergola. You may book during this time, however keep this info in mind plus I will throw in a free day if the crew is working during your stay. Weather and contractor work load will determine exact days affected. This is outdoor work 50' feet from the house, so consider accordingly.

ALSO, I AM PLANNING SOME INTERIOR UPGRADES TO BEGIN IN FEBRUARY. I WILL BLOCK A WEEK OR 2 AFTER WE SCHEDULE THE JOB. This will add a shower to the upstairs BR & open up some space in the downstairs common area.

The view of Old Rag from the front porch rivals any view east of West Texas, guaranteed.

The upstairs is one area with a full size sleep sofa (for 2) and a King that can be separated into 2 twins. Another sleep sofa downstairs accommodates an adult or 2 kids. We have high speed WIFI, DishNetwork satellite TV, propane furnace, central air, washer/dryer, well stocked kitchen namely pots/pans, dishes etc. Plan well like on a camping trip for your food supplies as the nearest supermarket is 13 miles away. (Etlan Store has basics.) We have a gas BBQ grill, and land line phone as there is no cell service in the general area. One bathroom is listed, but there is also a half bath upstairs.

The property is on a 1.2 acre lot attached to the small village of Etlan. The eastern foot of Old Rag is just over a mile across the meadow. Ducard and Sharp Rock vineyards are 3 miles, Graves Lodge 5 miles, White Oak Falls trail is 8 miles and Luray Caverns is 35 minutes.

This is a new listing as of Feb 2016, and we have been pleasantly encouraged to have very steady bookings already.

The 2 night minimum is only to satisfy county zoning; otherwise, I don't care...Also, please ignore the crass 'pay now' messages that appear from VRBO until you are ready to book.

Hiking and fishing season is in full swing so come on down to Etlan and you are welcome!

About Albert Yowell

My ancestry settled here 250 years ago and the A-Frame sits across the road catty-whompas from the extended family farm.

I fly private jets all over the beautiful USA, so it's always nice to come home to the peaceful view of Old Rag Mountain.

Albert Yowell purchased this chalet in 2015

Why Albert Yowell chose Virginia

For access to the heart of Shenanadoah park, namely Old Rag, White Oak Falls, Graves Lodge, Virginia farm scenery, and local vineyards, the Etlan A-Frame is central.

What makes this chalet unique

The unique physiognomy of the Old Rag skyline is best viewed from right here in Etlan and the small knoll of the Etlan A-Frame.

Beautiful setting and home

  • 3 of 5

The home and scenery are absolutely beautiful. We arrived on Sunday evening just in time to see the sunset over old rag. The next morning we were up early to hike old rag. At 6:45 a.m. we were greeted by contractors that were there to install some sort of platform for the jacuzzi that they are installing. Albert did tell me 1 week before we arrived that they would be there in the corner yard, little did we know that would be so close to the home. We had a wonderful day hiking old rag and thought we would return to the home to relax on the deck. When we arrived back the contractors were busy in the yard (which is right off the deck over looking old rag) and on the deck. Between the beeping and running of the equipment to the man on the deck banging away to another worker cutting pipes off the deck there was no way to relax. Once they left at 4 p.m. we had the rest of the afternoon. We had planned to sit near the fire pit with a glass of wine, but that was demolished by the work in progress. The next morning we were scheduled to depart and thought we would sleep in a bit. We again woke at 7 am to the sound of machinery. We packed up and headed out. I wouldn't recommend booking until the contract work is complete. On another note Chumlee is pretty awesome!

Perfect place to get away from it all!

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay at the Etlan A-Frame to celebrate our 10th anniversary. The atmosphere is so peaceful and the view is gorgeous. Very clean! There is no cell signal, but the wifi works great. We quite enjoyed Chumlee keeping us company as well - what a sweet cat! We visited the Country Store in Etlan and picked up a few things - everyone was so friendly we felt right at home! We tried their breakfast sandwiches in the morning and they were delicious. We visited the Luray Caverns and hiked along Skyline Drive. Highly recommend the little pizza place in Sperryville - Rappahannock Pizza Kitchen. Also went to Before & After in Sperryville - very cute place. We ate in Luray at the Gathering Grounds - highly recommend! Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay and we hope to be back - especially once the patio project is finished! Thank you for a memorable anniversary!

Amazing house with a beautiful view!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second time staying at the A-frame, and we can't wait to book our third stay. Our 2 year old loved playing out back and looking for Chumlee. Etlan and the surrounding area is such a peaceful place, and this house was the perfect place to take it all in. My family can't recommend this house highly enough. Captain A and Patty are wonderful hosts. If you're reading this and are on the fence about booking, just do it. You won't regret it.

Comfortable and clean with amazing views

  • 5 of 5

Captain Albert and Patty are such wonderful, helpful hosts. We spent six days in the A-frame and I looked forward to waking every morning just to see the view. The kids miss Chumlee already. Looking forward to visit again!

Beautiful and comfortable property with great host!!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed here with some friends on an unseasonably nice January weekend. We had a great time, were very comfortable, and had all of our questions answered promptly by the property owner, Albert.

The home is positioned in a gorgeous Shenandoah valley with a phenomenal view of Old Rag mountain. The home is well equipped for cooking, is cozy, and has a nice outdoor fire pit. We also really enjoyed Chumlee, the resident cat who has his own little cabin on the property, and is very well behaved. I will likely try and book this home again.

Relaxing, enjoyable, and definitely plan to come back and stay longer. Owner is great to work with. Looking forward to revisiting after the upcoming renovations. Adding a Hot Tub will make it over 5 stars. Thanks Captain Albert!
