Etlan A-frame With Front View Of Old Rag Mountain.

Bedrooms 1
Space 700 sq. ft.
Property type chalet
Minimum Stay 2 nights

About the property

1 Bedroom, 2 Bathroom, Sleeps 8 with some creativity.

This 2010 construction A-Frame is ideal for a couple or small family who want to enjoy Old Rag Mountain, Shenandoah National Park, local Vineyards, Graves Mountain Lodge, Virginia farm country and other local attractions or have otherwise need to visit this area.

Right now the patio project in the corner yard is finished except for the planned Pergola which will require some more engineering. So this patio includes a hot tub and fire pit. There will be evidence of recent excavation & re-seeding up thru July or so.

We re-did the tiny upstairs half bath to include a shower, but I can't get the tile guy to come back. Meanwhile, it's still a usable 'half bath'.

The view of Old Rag from the front porch rivals any view east of West Texas, guaranteed.

The upstairs is one open area with a full size sleep sofa (for 2) and a King that can be separated into 2 twins. A full size sleep sofa is also upstairs and 3 more sleep sofas are downstairs. One is full, one accommodates an adult or 2 kids and the other sleeps one. Most of our guests are a couple or small family, but we have had groups of 6-7 who have to be a bit creative on how they set up.

We have high speed WIFI, DishNetwork satellite TV, propane furnace, central air, washer/dryer, well stocked kitchen namely pots/pans, dishes etc. Plan well like on a camping trip for your food supplies as the nearest supermarket is 13 miles away. (Etlan Store has basics.) We have a gas BBQ grill, and land line phone as there is no cell service in the general area. One bathroom is listed, but there is also a half bath upstairs.

The property is on a 1.2 acre lot attached to the small village of Etlan. The eastern foot of Old Rag is just over a mile across the meadow. Ducard and Sharp Rock vineyards are 3 miles, Graves Lodge 5 miles, White Oak Falls trail is 8 miles and Luray Caverns is 35 minutes.

This is a new listing as of Feb 2016, and we have been pleasantly encouraged to have very steady bookings.

The 2 night minimum is only to satisfy county zoning; otherwise, I don't care...Also, please ignore the crass 'pay now' messages that appear from VRBO until you are ready to book.

Hiking season is in full swing so come on down to Etlan and you are welcome!

About Albert Yowell

My ancestry settled here 250 years ago and the A-Frame sits across the road catty-whompas from the extended family farm.

I fly private jets all over the beautiful USA, so it's always nice to come home to the peaceful view of Old Rag Mountain.

Albert Yowell purchased this chalet in 2015

Why Albert Yowell chose Etlan

For access to the heart of Shenanadoah park, namely Old Rag, White Oak Falls, Graves Lodge, Virginia farm scenery, and local vineyards, the Etlan A-Frame is central.

What makes this chalet unique

The unique physiognomy of the Old Rag skyline is best viewed from right here in Etlan and the small knoll of the Etlan A-Frame.

Awesome! Stayed Oct. 8-12

  • 5 of 5

The A-frame didn't disappoint us in the least. The views are fantastic and varied. Old Rag, of course, being the centerpiece of numerous mountains and hills along with open pasture land dotted with neighboring cows; some of who ambled right up to the fence to give a quick greeting before resuming their grazing. After driving and hiking around Shenandoah Park, I truely believe Capain "A" is right- there is NO better view of Old Rag from anywhere. Just like the exterior, the interior was also to our liking. Very clean!! Nice open floor plan downstairs with the living room leading directly to the well equipped cool looking kitchen. There's bathrooms on both floors giving every one their own space and of course, a 2nd floor deck providing those same marvelous views. Of course, the icing on the cake was the new hot tub. We used it every night even though the weather was a bit warm. Very relaxing! Chumley didn't come out to see us, probably because our psycho boxer Dukie was playing and barking at his ball whenever he was outside. We went to see him, very friendly. Oh, the country store does have good BBQ, along with the usual groceries. Ok, that's all the positive stuff. Now the negatives. Well, I ain't got none! My wife & I had a great time, thoroughly enjoying ourselves. The A-frame came as it was advertised. We would definately like to come back as this is a great place to relax, unwind and enjoy the Shenandoah region. Oh, as long as you are here, visit the Luray caverns. Beautiful! colleen, george & dukie port gibson, ny

Very comfortable and relaxing

I appreciate that the owners paid attention to many details. The patio area was awesome with the fire pit, hot tub, and high chairs pointing to a wonderful view. The owner provided firewood and fire starter materials. We will certainly consider a return trip to the Etlan A-frame.

Came out for a family wedding and to see the fall colors. Great time even if the fall colors were not so great. Being from the west coast we were hoping for a beautiful mix of colors. This A-frame is a fantastic place. We loved sitting out on the patio and enjoying the views. Would love to stay here again.

Romantic Mountain Escape

  • 5 of 5

My husband and I celebrated our one year anniversary at the A-Frame House. There was a bottle of champagne awaiting our arrival! The house is beautiful and the views are unbeatable. We enjoyed the outdoor patio and hot tub after a long day of hiking at White Oak Falls with our dog. The falls were beautiful and well worth he hike. We cooked all of our meals easily with the fully equipped kitchen. We will definitely rent the A-Frame again one day!

Fall Stay

  • 5 of 5

The views from the cabin were unbeatable. The furniture was comfortable and the cabin was clean. The new patio with fire pit was used every night with Old Rag in view. I would recommend staying here. The cabin had everything we needed.

The area was remote but within 10 miles you can find anything you need. Plenty of restaurants and breweries in the area.

Lovely view

  • 4 of 5

This place overs a lovely view and the house is quite nice. This was my 2nd stay. The only things keeping me from 5 stars are that the air conditioning was out (but the temps were not that bad) and the kitchen could be better furnished (non-stick frying pan, more than one sharp paring knife, a few spices, maybe a few staples (shelf stable half and half, waxed paper, plastic wrap or foil, for example). Although the description of bedding indicates up to 6 or 8 people could stay, there are not enough dinner plates for that. The house is in excellent condition and the owner is responsive; he even came by to say hi. Loved seeing the cows.
