About Phil Donnison and Maria Mclaughlin
Maira and I lived in Exeter, Devon, where I was a teacher of the deaf and Maria had here own practice as a relationship counsellor. As we lived at the school, we were able to have our own house elsewhere and decided on France. After a lot of searching, we found the lovely village of Paraza in Languedoc, near sea and mountains and alongside the most beautiful canal in France. In 2006, we made the decision to start a new life and opened a new business here in Paraza, "Mellow Vélos" a cycle hire centre. After 10 years of ownership, the business is now in younger hands, but we still live in the village as it is such a great place to be!
Phil Donnison and Maria Mclaughlin purchased this House in 2007
Why Phil Donnison and Maria Mclaughlin chose Paraza
We bought the Pink House in Paraza as a property that would make a great holiday home. Indeed it was converted from a winemaking building for that purpose. We did live in it for a few months when we needed to renovate our original property, but since then we have let it out to couples and families from all over the world. We regularly decorate and replace items to keep it up to date and in good condition. Additionally you will find games, books, sports equipment, dvds, wifi...... And a complementary basket of goodies to welcome you if you are staying a week or more!
What makes this House unique
We live in the village too, so if you need assistance with anything, we are here to help. We will meet you when you arrive and help you to settle in. Would you like us to book a table at the village restaurant on your arrival day? Just let us know!
100% refund if canceled at least 30 days before arrival date. 50% refund if canceled at least 14 days before arrival date.
A very lovely break in a rural village.
We were looking for a quiet place to stay after a few hectic weeks on the road. The Pink House was all we could have wished for. The village was very small and if it hadn’t been for Marcel and Fatima at the local shop we may have struggled a little. The roof terrace was lovely and even in the very hot weather we had there was sometimes a breeze.
We stayed at the Pink House and although the weather was cold it was lovely and sunny. The house had everything we needed and was lovely and cosy in the evenings when we had the woodburner going. Sue
We are pleased that you enjoyed staying in our holiday home. Yes, the weather in this part of France is generally sunny during the winter. The wood burning stove is a good addition to the main heating in the house and helps make it a cosy base for a winter holiday.
Phil and Maria
A nice French village house -but not suitable for us!
In practice the property was unsuitable for us with open steep staircase to top main living area. Difficult if you have a dog or young children!- also low beams can be a problem too!
Kitchen Equipment and heating all worked and outside space and view was good.
TV had a few English news channels only, cd’s were old and worn out.
Wood burner was a lovely on cold evenings in Autumn
Set in a quiet area of a small wine village, but within reasonable distance of local attractions.
Owners were helpful and pleasant to deal with.
This house had everything we could have wished for and helped make our week in Paraza very enjoyable. It was spotless, furnished with style and a real pleasure to come home to after a day out. The terrace is a bonus offering outside dining area, lovely loungers and total privacy. Phil was there to meet us on arrival and able to give an insight into village life and history of the area which made it even more interesting. We think this really is a beautiful part of France and like this perfect little house ,quiet, unassuming but infinitely charming.
Thank you for your kind words. We live in the village too and agree that this area of France is a perfect place to spend some quality time and the house is set up for a relaxing stay. Paraza is still a traditional wine producing village, with a beautiful chateau producing some fine vintages as well as having a number of small independent vignerons. The art gallery next to the canal du midi here has regular exhibitions of local artists' works which also adds interest for visitors.
Maria and I will make sure that any guests to our house are well looked after and we endeavour to make our holiday home as welcoming as possible.
Everything you needed in a property rental. Loved it!! 👍
A warm welcome on arrival from owner and really appreciated the fresh bread, butter and milk. Great base to see the sights in the Languedoc area. Beautiful village with friendly locals and a shop for your morning bread. Very nice!!! Even in December we had a wonderful time. 👍😁
Glad you liked the house Kirstin and enjoyed your stay here in the Minervois. You are welcome back anytime!
Cycling on the canal towpath is a great way to enjoy the area. Bike hire is available in the Paraza. Quad bikes can be hired at another centre in the village.
There are plenty of Cathar castles to explore here, not forgetting the incredible city of Carcassonne.
Whilst the beaches are close, there are plenty of other swimming spots either in rivers or in the nearby lake at Homps. Many spots have lifeguards.
