This home in the lovely little medieval village of Caunes-Minervois was an absolute delight! The building was very old and had lots of character, but the facilities inside were up to date and very comfortable. The house was stocked with all sorts of supplies, and Gary and Shelley had even left a lovely bottle of wine. Our little courtyard was a secluded little oasis hidden within the ancient city walls. The village was a delight to explore, and so central for day trips to other nearby cities and towns. If you are seeking a comfortable holiday in an old village, this is the perfect spot. Gary and Shelley were the perfect hosts with excellent communication!
Perfect holiday in Caunes Minervois
We enjoyed the wonderful spotless home and amenities of a well stocked kitchen, with plenty of towels and bedding and comfortable beds. It is a central location from which to explore the amazing Aude valley. The townspeople were friendly and helpful. We took long morning walks through the countryside and long leisurely dinners prepared at home or in the towns several restaurants. Would love to come back. Would definitely chose to stay here again.
It was wonderful. The place was quaint and comfortable
Definitely would recommend to anyone who wants to experience medieval France. We were close to everything including chateaux du latours, the caves, wineries and Carcassonne. People here are lovely
A beautiful house in a charming and buzzy village.
The house is in an excellent location, comfortable and very well equipped - perfect for us as a group of 5 adults. The patio is an ideal place to enjoy a meal or read a book beneath the vines.
Nicola was responsive and very kindly arranged to return an item we had left behind - very grateful!
Thanks for a wonderful stay.
Comfortable and pleasant stay
We had a pleasant stay. The house was well appointed and the village is easy to get around and provided good access to surrounding areas. Having two bedrooms and two bathrooms made it very comfortable for the two couples in our group. The courtyard is a nonus
Hi and thank you for your review. I was a little stumped when you said the courtyard was a nonus but I assume you meant a bonus.
A charming and well-located home
My husband and I spent five night at the end of April in this house in Caunes Minervois and enjoyed it so much. Caunes is a small, quiet, medieval village, and this house is on one of the many cobblestone streets in the center of the village. From the street there are a few steps to climb either to get down to the laundry room (washer, no dryer but with laundry rack upstairs), or up to the main level where the kitchen, living room and patio are). The kitchen is great, the living room is cozy (fireplace), and the patio is lovely! There are two bedrooms with double beds and two bathrooms on the next floor (one with a shower, one with a tub), and an attic bedroom with 2 twin beds and skylight. It was a wonderful retreat for us at the end of days of travels through the area.
Caunes-Minervois is one of the prettiest and most sought after villages in the region around Carcassonne (15 km) away. It has a glorious historic abbey dating back to the 12th century and several renowned restaurants and cafes, one of which has been featured in by celebrity chef Rick Stein on TV. The village nestles just below hills full of red marble from which it earned its living for centuries. Caunes is a short car ride from the historic city of Carcassonne and only a few kilometres from the famous Canal du Midi which offers boat rides and cycling tours. Caunes is not far from tourist sites such as Minerve and is in the heart of historic Cathar country with its medieval castles and churches. There are also the endless vineyards of the Minervois and, a little further south, the Corbieres. The Mediterranean sea is less than an hour away by car but there is a sailing and swimming lake just a few kilometres away. This village is lively all summer with various festivals and events.
