Wonderful, peaceful spot!

  • 5 of 5

Joe's house was exactly what we were looking for. It was clean, private, adorably decorated, and seconds from the beach. Our kids had a blast kayaking in the gulf and I was able to kayak behind a mama and baby dolphin-- what a memory! The outdoor shower and washer and dryer made keeping life clean easy. All in all, absolutely idyllic.

Pine Island Rental

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with our stay. Joe was attentive to our requests. Our friends from Spring Hill who visited during the day were very impressed. Actually they said they would consider having their children rent this house when they came to visit. That way they would be able to enjoy the gulf also. The state park is just a short walk away. On one kayak trip, we saw many, many dolphins which was a great joy. The house was very nicely decorated as a beach house. My only disappointment was the bed (I believe) was a full size bed, not a queen.

Owner's Response: The bed is brand new and is definitely a queen.

Enjoyed our stay but.....

  • 3 of 5

I gave a three star rating based mainly on the location and our personal taste in vacation.

The cottage was updated, cute, and clean. The exterior, such as screened porch, could use a cleaning and repairs to a couple screens. The home size was comfortable for the two of us but the queen bed felt more like a double, and yes, it is noisy. Great TV in the LR and also in one of the bedrooms. No dishwasher (not really a problem for two) and there is a washer dryer, however, the washer didn't function properly, even for our medium load (didn't spin clothes).

As advertised, the semi-private beach is very close and fun to explore and see a sunset. Here's why it didn't fit our style. The home is on the main road of the island and gets heavy traffic at times, especially on weekends. The beach park at the end of the island is one of few beaches around and thus attracts steady visitors - I was surprised being it was February and can only imagine what summer would be like. Because of road activity, and the road being narrow, bike rides and walks are best taken early morning and sitting on the porch is less than peaceful (depending on time of day). Speaking of bikes, there were two at the house but be aware they are smaller frame size and not great for taller people (5'8 & 6"2). Also, there was no air in the tires and no pump, as well as only a cheep wrench for adjusting seats and handle bars. In fairness, I think if we would have called the owner they would have come and taken care of that as they had been great with communicating. We were disappointed that no one rents bicycles in the area.

We ventured out to surrounding areas, such as Crystal River, Homosassa, Brooksville, and even as far as Dunnellon. The area in a whole is appropriately named Natures Coast and we enjoyed much of it as we like to bike, walk, and bird watch. We never did get to Kayaking, which is a big activity in the area and there are 4 kayaks at the house.

Overall, the owner was very kind during our communication and the home, for the most part, was as described (minus the detail of the park road). Being unfamiliar with the area we just didn't realize the amount of activity that little island gets and that just isn't our vacation style.

Two consecutive years renting this same lovely house

  • 5 of 5

This was the second consecutive year my aunt and I shared this two bed room beach house. The location was perfect as it was close to the relatives we were visiting. The screened in porch with two chairs and a swing provides a view of the gulf. As most beach house this one is on stilts which requires climbing a flight of steps. During the day we were able to walk a few steps and be on the beach or walk a few houses down and be at the public beach. The public beach has a grill, where you could purchase a variety of grilled food. A short drive there are a few local restaurants. We also spent a morning kayaking at the nearby Weeki Wachee springs. We would highly recommend this activity. $45 for a tandem kayak or $35 for a single. We saw manatees, sea otters, an eagle, a raccoon, turkey vultures, amazing fish, butterflies, a water snake, yellow belly turtles, birds... etc. The screened in porch with two chairs and a swing provides a view of the gulf. As most beach house this one is on stilts which requires climbing a flight of steps. Thanks Joe.. God willing, we will be back next year!

Nice and quiet

  • 5 of 5

We visited this past September...2 adults, 2 children. We had originally scheduled to get there on a Friday and stay until Monday, which was a school holiday. But...then Irma struck. We live inland in central Florida and were affected by the storm, losing power for several days and the school system cancelled school for the entire week following the storm, but also cancelled the holiday for the Monday we were supposed to return. So our oldest wouldn't miss school, Joe was kind enough to move us up a day, so we got there on a Thursday and left Sunday. He was very responsive to all questions. Fortunately, this property was out of the direct path of the storm, and though there was quite a bit of sea weed washed up on the beach, the property was undamaged. As for the property and beach, I really don't have anything to add that hasn't already been mentioned. There were some kind neighbors who told us about the area while we were in the water. They had a couple of very friendly dogs that our kids enjoyed playing with and we saw dolphins multiple times during our stay. The only thing I would add is that there is a dishwasher mentioned in the kitchen, but there was not one present when we stayed. We definitely plan to visit this property again in the next year or two.

WOnderful place.

  • 5 of 5

There is not much more I can add to the previous reviews, they are all accurate. A great place, in a great area. My only comments are; 1: be aware that you cannot swim here, at low tide you have to walk out more than a mile to get to chest high water. 2: because we were here for a week and we cook a lot we would have liked a pan large enough for roasting in the oven, which was lacking. But other than that it was perfect. Wonderful sunsets over the gulf, great park a short walk down the road. There was some difficulty with the reservation but this was due to the VBRO software and my use of it. But Joe was more than accommodating in getting past this issue. A big thanks to him for his patience and understanding. Highly recommended. Joe said I would love the place; we did. And you will also.

Owner's Response: I will pick up the pans immediately and put them at the house. Any concerns are addressed immediately when guests present opportunities to make the house better, 99% of the time during the stay. As for the tide, it varies all the time. At low tide is when you get to see all the Marine life at it's best. Dolphins feeding daily, and hundreds of other things you might never witness. The park which is a short walk away you can swim all day long as long as the park is open. The house is incredible.
