About Maggie Ledra
I was born in UK, and now recently retired, have decided to move to France My husband's first language is French and I can speak French well enough to get by. We fell in love with south west France and decided that if we don't move now we never will. So the adventure begins
Maggie Ledra purchased this Apartment in 2016
Why Maggie Ledra chose Sarlat-la-Canéda
We bought Maison Pierre D'Or in September 2016. It was already established as luxury holiday apartments. We have spent the first year painting and decorating and refurbishing the apartments to make them comfortable and welcoming places to stay. We aim to give all our guests a wonderful time whilst staying with us.
What makes this Apartment unique
The house is on the edge of the old town. Conveniently positioned, just a short walk of 10 minutes and you are at the centre of medieval Sarlat. The house consists of four apartments which all have their unique character. There are two large apartments which are named after French painters: Monet and Matisse; a smaller apartment: Cezanne; and a spacious loft studio: Gauguin. There is parking at the house which is a great bonus during the busy summer months when parking in the centre is at a premium. Sarlat is a stunning place, with wonderful buildings and markets. It is situated in the middle of beautiful countryside, historic chateaux, prehistoric caves and wonderful gardens. We think you will fall in love with it too.

Relaxing Sarlat Apartment
Fabulous apartment. Large enough for 2 people in great comfort. Lovely large terrace to eat out on, and to sit in the sun.
Great little conservatory area, where it's a pleasure to relax and contemplate what's on offer for tomorrow's outing. So many stunning places to visit, all within an easy drive.
Fully equipped kitchen, which is lovely, and a very comfy bed.
Also in the heat we experienced during our stay, the silent fan in the bedroom was very much appreciated.
Would thoroughly recommend this apartment, and Maggie the owner is a very helpful and kind host.
lovely property and excellent location
Everything you need for a weeks stay and more! The welcoming basket is a lovely touch.
Property is first-rate, and the hosts, Maggie and Ahm, are the most enjoyable we've encountered in many years of vacation rentals.
Six stars at least! Maggie and Ahm are great hosts, the apartment beautifully decorated with charm and personal touches. Easy walk to old town, quick drive to grocery store. Fully equipped kitchen and the softest bathtowels we have encountered while traveling. We did NOT want to leave.
A Jewel in the Dordogne
Maggie and Ahm received us like old friends! Not only was a welcome gift waiting for us upon our arrival but an anniversary gift before we left as well.
The Matisse apartment was spacious, clean, attractive and a lovely home away from home. We loved the balcony which overlooks the gardens below with a view of the distant rooftops of the Sarlat old town. The kitchen had everything one needs, the bed was very comfortable, the washer/dryer made it easy to pack light, and the free parking was a big bonus. It was a perfect location from which to explore the neighboring villages.
But what was really special was Maggie and Ahm themselves. They were perfect hosts. They made sure we had everything we needed. They were thoughtful and kind and interesting and just plain nice!!!
We had a marvelous time in Sarlat. The 8 days was not nearly enough and wish we could have stayed longer!
Thank you, Maggie and Ahm for the warm welcome.
Highly recommended beautiful suite with wonderful hosts; perfect location to explore The Dordogne
We spent 11 nights in the Matisse suite and felt right at home from the moment that our thoughtful and helpful hosts Maggie and Ahm took us upstairs to show us the light filled charming rooms which make up this good sized suite. The outdoor patio is as beautiful as pictured and is private and the perfect little spot for just sitting and contemplating the beauty all around or having a morning coffee casually at home.
The kitchen has all the appliances and pots and pans that you might need to cook your own meals and the Carrefours Grocery is huge and very close by and has all the local fresh groceries, including the wonderful Cabecou goat cheese. However, we also often walked the 10 minutes into the old town of Sarlat to enjoy eating out at the very good restaurants in quaint cobblestoned passageways. Of course, the duck and goose confit and the foie gras had to be sampled in this part of France and our hosts were spot on with their recommendations of excellent places to eat.
Sarlat is the perfect centre for sidetrips around the Dordogne with very short drives to Lascaux, Domme, Les Eyzies, Beynac and La Roque Geageac just to name a handful of our favourite sites for history and prehistory.
We will certainly be recommending the Matisse suite ( and other suites in the Maison Pierre D'Or) to anyone and everyone who is thinking of exploring The Dordogne area of France.
Andrea and Brent, Vancouver, Canada.
Thank you for your wonderful review Andrea. It’s always great for us to have guests who love the history and culture, and who feel at home. It makes it all worthwhile. It was aa absolute pleasure to have you and Brent to stay. You brightened every day And we are touched by your generosity. Welcome back any time, Maggie and Ahm
Sarlat la Caneda is a town in the Perigord region of Dordogne. It has all the shops and services you would expect to find in a town. It has a famous medieval centre which is full of shops and bistros and there are big markets filling the town on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The surrounding region is famous for caves, gardens, chateaux and beautiful countryside. The Lascaux caves are a must see, and it's worth booking in advance during July and August. The river trips, either by boat or canoe are beautiful and you will see chateaux and villages built into the rocks from the river.
