We bought this property and the nearby thatched cottage where we live, in 1985 when it was virtually derelict. For the first year my husband and I and our two daughters shared one upstairs room as a bedroom and the downstairs kitchen as the only usable rooms in the house as the remainder were uninhabitable. Over the years we have gradually renovated, repaired and renewed the properties and maintained, designed and planted over 400 trees in the extensive gardens. We are now nearing retirement and hope that by encouraging people to stay in The Stables, the funding generated will allow us to stay within the property for longer.

This property has been a lifetime's work. We have lived here fore 32 years and know all the nooks and crannies of the buildings as we have renovated and repaired them completely during this time. The Thatch, next door to The Stables, is where we live and dates back to the 16th century. It is listed as a Grade II building by English Heritage as being of significant historical interest. Consequently there are strict restrictions placed by the local authority on any modifications, repairs or renewals to the building and the thatched roof has be maintained in keeping with the local style of thatch. The Stables, although old, is not as historic as The Thatch dating back approximately 200 years and as far as we know it did use to be the stables for the horses of the people who lived in The Thatch.

The Stables, although situated in a small village, the village itself is located very close to major amenities and transport links so you have the benefit of living in a historic building within a rural environment but on the edge of modern society.

We loved it.
We loved the Stables. It was warm, cosy, peaceful and the beds were really comfortable. Everything we needed was there, most of which we didn't need like the washing and dishwasher machine and when we came to leave this morning we realised we'd been so busy we hadn't even turned the telly on!! We came up from Somerset and stopped off in Oxford on our way up for a tour of the University and to go punting. Closer to home was Bletchley Park and we had two days there because the tickets are valid all year. Wendi met us on our arrival as we were unsure about driving up the drive in case we were in the wrong place! She'd left some goodies and recommended we tried the Betsey Wynne pub in Swanbourne which was a great place and we were made to feel welcome. All in all we had a wonderful few days thank you so much.
Great stay in a lovely place
We really enjoyed our stay in the Stables in December 2018. We had a lovely welcome from Wendi which set the tone for a great break. The Stables is well equipped with everything you need but it has a really nice homely feel.
The location is excellent with great access to Milton Keynes and the surrounding villages but it is nice and quiet in the village.
We had a really nice meal in the Bettsy Wynn in nearby Swanbourne and would recommend it if you are looking for a pub meal (good range of meals and prices).
We would whole heartedly recommend this property and will definitely stay ourselves again if we are in the area.
Absolutely stunning rental with perfect set up for a country holiday.
The stay was perfect from beginning to end. The property was excellently fitted with all needs from cooking and dining to entertainment and relaxing. I stayed with my father while we attended Silverstone for the British Grand Prix and the location was excellent. The owners were beyond wonderful and so welcoming and accommodating. It was the perfect rental for a holiday get-away with 2 bedrooms and plenty of space to relax in. We cannot wait to return.

The Stables is situated approx. ten minutes drive from Milton Keynes City Centre with all its shopping, parks, restaurants and entertainment (cinemas, theatre, ski centre, bowling, ice skating etc) as well as miles of cycle paths.
It is also convenient for Silverstone Race Circuit, Bicester Village, Oxford and several high profile National Trust properties, including Waddesdon Manor, Claydon House and Hughenden Manor.
Access to London is quick and easy - London Euston is 35 minutes train journey from the nearest station, Leighton Buzzard and the M1 motorway Junction 13 is only fifteen minutes drive. The M40 motorway is approximately half an hour away. Altogether a very convenient place to base your stay in the UK.
