Why Owner chose Arco Da Calheta
We love the traditional yet modern feel of this property it is just the right size. My father was born just a few hundred metres away and although he immigrated away 65 yrs ago we feel our roots are firmly here and want to start a new history chapter. We purchased it in September 2017 from the couple who built it 8 years ago and ran it on this site for 2 years and achieved 30 average 4.7/5 star reviews. everything is going to remain exactly the same, rates , furniture and staff who manage the property.
What makes this Villa unique
The property has a perfect location in a village close to all the best bits of arco da Calheta .The village usually enjoys very good weather even when other parts of Madeira are cloudy. It is very easily reached from the motorway and it is set on a level section of parking / stopping area, not many other properties enjoy a nice level stopping area. The gardens are mature and have been thoughtfully arranged, lovely fruit trees/ flowers/ herb sections. The house feels very private although it is not at all isolated.

Lovely property and great owners and managers
Had a great stay. Lovely house, pool, gardens and bbq. Quite a noisy road during day but nothing that couldn’t be ignored.
Summer hols Aug 2019
We had a great time. Very relaxing and spent our days out around the island but always back for our afternoon or evenings in the pool and having dinner in the garden. Was perfect all round.
Well equipped villa, couldn’t fault!
Arco da Calheta is a quiet little village set on a hill.
We went to the supermarket Pingo Doce in Calheta a short car journey away. If you spend over €10 you get a car park ticket for free parking. Don’t forget to ask!
We travelled around quite a bit and found the road system very easy to manoeuvre.
Main roads are fine, we took a wrong turn whilst exploring and were on a very narrow steep road with the only way up, not for the faint hearted.
Funchal is about 35mins away, Cabo Girão viewpoint is about 20 mins away. We also went to Porto Moniz, about 50mins away, lovely scenery on the way and the outdoor natural lava pools were brilliant!
The villa had everything you could need from your 4 socket extension lead for charging your devices, no need for travel plugs coming from uk to all the pots/pans and crockery you could ever need.
Teva met us at the villa and answered any queries and was only a message away if we needed anything.
You need a car to stay here, Maderia can be prone to some cloudy days, but temperatures were more bearable but still hot.
Would highly recommend 😎
Lovely spacious and well equipped property in a great location
Just come back from a fantastic 10 Days in Casa Margarida. Outside the gardens are lovely and the views from the balconies are great. We took binoculars and you can conduct your own dolphin watching tour from the balcony if you know which boats to follow. We had great weather and the pool was lovely to cool down in and was really clean and well kept.
The Villa itself is very well kitted out with everything you need and is also very spacious, the two upstairs bedrooms are huge. The kids loved making fresh orange juice each morning using the juicer and the supermarket is only down the hill in Calheta by the beach for any supplies.
It was a really easy drive too from the airport – maybe 40 minutes maximum, the majority being on dual carriageway and via the tunnels on the southern side and there is lots to do around the Calheta end of the Island too. Teva who looks after the Villa is also very helpful and gave us a few tips when she met us at the property to give us the keys.
Definitely somewhere we would recommend
We also found a fantastic bar, a 10 minute walk from the Villa called the Recanto snack bar where the owner was super friendly and both the food and drink really good value and tasty, proper Portuguese fare.
A lovely holiday in a well kept property in a good location
We found the villa to be well equipped and very comfortable for our family of four. The pool and gardens were well maintained and from the patio area, great views over Arco Da Calheta and the sea. One of several Levada walks we enjoyed can be reached on foot from the hill behind the villa. Madeira Island has some spectacular scenery and this villa was an ideal touring base for us.
24 Five star reviews speak for themselves
This is a lovely villa in a beautiful location. We know because we had it built to our specification, and lived in it for four years before offering it for holiday rental. During the time that we let it, it was awarded twenty-four five-star reviews, and was managed for us by the much praised Teva. Now that the property has been sold to new owners, Teva continues to mange it and to ensure that the previous standards are maintained. For now you can see our reviews by searching HomeAway for property no. 1027388, but this review from guests who arrived on 29 July 2017 is our favourite.
"Just returned from a fabulous week at this gorgeous villa in a beautiful location. We were met at the villa by Teva who made us feel immediately very welcome and gave us lots of tips and advice on the island and area, despite it being quite a late arrival nothing was too much trouble. The welcome snacks and bottle of wine were very appreciated! The villa is just gorgeous and photos are very accurate. We arrived in the dark, so when we opened the shutters in the morning, the views of the ocean just took our breath away, it was so beautiful and we spent many happy evenings and breakasts on the upper balcony. The villa is very private. The weather was great, no searing heat ala Spain, just warm sunshine, fresh breezes and no mosquitos - bliss! The pool and patio were very clean with comfy sunbeds, beach towels, inflatables, outdoor grill and reclining chairs provided. The living area was cool, bright and comfy and the kitchen was very authentic and well equipped with a lovely ocean view and the gardens had beautiful plants and flowers everywhere. Didnt need aircon as fans fine. Everywhere was really clean and modern, comfy bed, lovely dressing area & bathroom with wet room and power shower. Calheta is a nice beach resort which would be good for families (although we are a couple). There are plenty of cheap and good snack bars in the day, but only 2 restaurants open at night which close at 11, so no late nights out! However, we found Ponta do Sol a short drive away which was gorgeous and easily taxi-able if you do want a night out and not as far as Funchal. We also ate at the restaurant in Madalena do Mar on the front (only one) which does amazing espatadas (those steak skewers) and the seafood looked amazing. Madeira is an amazing place - we just loved it and can't wait to go back (hopefully to this villa!). Paradise found" Philip and Kate.
Calheta beach is only easy 5 min drive away , ample parking , affordable snacks , only 5 euro for 2 sun loungers and parasol. Very calm water for swimming .
