About Elizabeth Franklin
We moved to France 12 years ago and have never had any regrets. I was a Primary School Music and English Teacher and Colin a Heating Engineer. Having worked really hard for 25 years, we felt ready for a change. Having renovated the house we currently live in in 2005 we decided we would like another project to keep us inspired. So we bought a complete ruin in Camon, which everyone joked only a mad Englishman would buy! But 11 years later, after a lot of hard work and excitement and attention to detail, we have finally finished our project and it feels like a lovely, spacious, stylish home. Our wish is that you can just walk in and feel immediately at home - with all the comforts you require plus an added sense of luxury. Surrounded by beautiful views and charming places to visit you will have no trouble relaxing here and we will take great pleasure in helping you have a wonderful stay.
Why Elizabeth Franklin chose Camon
There was something about our house at Camon which seemed to speak to us the moment we saw it. Whilst it was completely ramshackle, (only partially roofed, walls tumbling in, no floors or glass in the windows) you could see what a pretty house it had once been and we felt it still had a heart at it's centre. We knew it would take a lot of dedication, imagination and money to restore it but we felt completely committed and have never stopped dreaming of the day when it would be lived in again. And here we are....

Beautiful house in a lovely village.
A superbly renovated, clean, comfortable home base in one of France’s “most beautiful villages.” This house has everything you need and the owners go above and beyond to think of anything you might have forgotten, in order to make your stay that much more comfortable. While Camon itself is a tiny village, the location is perfect for visiting towns, villages and historical sites in the area. Liz and Colin are exceptional hosts!
We enjoyed our visit very much ,Elizabeth and Colin made us feel very welcome.
The apartment was lovely , clean , and comfortable. The kitchen was very well equipped and orderly. The towels and bed sheets and comforter were great!!
The location was perfect for our visit to the Cathar region. Wonderful 😊
We are so glad you all enjoyed your visit, Lee. You made such good use of your time here, visiting many of our favourite places. We hope the rest of your stay in France was wonderful. Thank you for your lovely comments and for leaving our house so clean and tidy, it is very much appreciated.
Perfect!
We had a lovely stay in Liz and Colin’s wonderful house. They are very gracious hosts and had thought of everything- we have never stayed in a better equipped property. Also beds and pillows v comfy and the showers work! The area is really quiet with the only sound at night being owls hooting. Camon is really pretty with the river flowing through, pretty houses and lovely walks and cycle rides.
The area is great with lots to see and do. Mirepoix is beautiful and the Monday market is great. Carcassonne is only an hour away and stunning. For spectacular views you can climb to the Châteaus of Montsegur or Puilaurens.
A fabulous relaxing holiday in a well equipped house with friendly hosts.
Thank you so much, Julia. We are so glad you all had a good time and enjoyed getting out and about as well as relaxing at home. You were lovely guests to welcome, really friendly and great company. Wasn't it funny to discover we had friends in common? - it's a small world.....!
Fantastic Holiday
We are a family of 5 with 3 small children, our holiday at this property was wonderful. The accommodation is immaculate which made our stay very relaxing. Elizabeth's attention to detail is evident throughout the property - there were toys for the children, buckets/spade/beach towels blankets and all the items you would need for a picnic. The amount of information Elizabeth has put together on the local area is outstanding. Communication with Elizabeth was very easy throughout the run up to our trip and whilst there, she kindly gave us further ideas of things to do with the children - which was amazing. If you like getting away and experiencing rural France in all its beauty then this is a great choice. We all had such a great time. Thank you x
Thank you so much Belinda, you brought a tear to my eye! It makes all the difference to know people enjoy themselves and have a lovely time. You were a super family to meet and your children were a delight. We hope you went back home rested.
Perfect host, perfect flat!
The place is absolutely one of the best VRBO properties we have stayed at. Things like shampoo, soap & even laundry detergent etc... was provided (VERY RARE) at most properties. Liz and Colin we so very friendly & helpful they seemed like long lost friends. The village is absolutely beautiful & dinner at the Abbey was magical & not to be missed. Bobby (the dog) put a smile on our face everyday. We plan on returning next summer for sure!
Thank you so much, Michelle and Richard, for your lovely comments. We are so pleased you had a good time here in Camon and that you enjoyed the house and village so much. You and the "children" were great guests. Thank you very much for the cherry cake which we loved! We really hope you find a house here in France that you can call home. But you know you will always be welcome to come back here anytime in the meantime. All the best, Liz and Colin and of course, Bobby
A perfect stay
As previous reviewers have commented, everything about our stay was perfect. The property is spacious, extremely well furnished and, above all, incredibly well fitted out with so many thoughtful extras provided by Liz, that one would rarely, if ever, meet in a holiday house. Camon is such a beautiful village with so many walks from the front door, the Voie Vert in particular. Liz and Colin were such special hosts, always ready to assist with useful advice and guidance. Our meal at the Abbey was memorable and we had a great light lunch at the Camonnette. So much to do and see in the area. We can't recommend Liz and Colin's property highly enough.
Bob and Jan,
Thank you so much for such a lovely review, it is so easy to "look after" guests like you and your friends. You were great fun, enthusiastic and appreciative - and you left the house clean and tidy which is always a huge bonus! We are so glad you enjoyed your stay here at Camon and made the most of the beautiful area. Colin and I hope you really relax and enjoy the rest of your holiday before returning back to Australia. It's a long way to come back but you would be so welcome anytime xx

There are many opportunities for walking, cycling, wine-tasting, water sports, sightseeing, visiting local markets and beautiful drives from our house. You are in the middle of such a beautiful area, you will never be bored if you like the great outdoors. A visit to Andorra or the Mediterranean is possible on a day trip, or you can discover the many historical Cathar Castles in the area. If you come in the winter you could combine a holiday with ski-ing or visiting the Thermal Baths at Ax-les-Thermes or Rennes Les Bains.
