Relaxing and beautiful!
We had a lovely relaxing stay at Aux Champés. The breakfast was lovely each day, the accommodation is beautiful and comfortable. A lovely weekend busy doing not much!
Not as ideal as we had hoped
This Bed and Breakfast has been decorated nicely and is in a beautiful, quiet hamlet in the Dordogne. We were excited when we found this place on Homeaway as we were looking for somewhere to stay the day before and day after a week's holiday we had booked at another Villa.
The set up worked well as we were travelling with 3 adults and 2 young children.
On arrival, we were told the rooms wouldn't be ready until 5:30/6pm, however the check in time given on this website states 4pm. This wasn't ideal with 2 tired and hungry children. But we were given a recommendation for a late lunch and were offered to wait in the garden once we returned.
I wouldn't say the welcome was very warm or accommodating, but I initially put that down to difference in cultures. However, in hindsight, we never really felt very welcome here.
After we had left after our first night, I later received a barrage of messages from the owner, accusing us of putting something down the toilet which had blocked it and caused it to overflow. I was accused of putting baby wipes in there and was told that she would let us know what blocked the toilet once the plumber had been and that we couldn't come back at the end of the week if we didn't resolve this issue together!
After speaking on the phone to explain we didn't put anything but toilet paper in the toilet and expressing my shock, we were told we were okay to return and the toilet had been fixed easily. We were never told what it was that had mysteriously blocked the toilet after all that!
Needless to say, this altercation interfered with the enjoyment of the rest of our holiday and we weren't looking forward to having to return. However we felt we had no choice as it was peak high season, nothing else was available and we were passed the stage of getting any cancellation refund.
The remainder of our stay was awkward and we chose to stay away from the accommodation during the day to avoid the atmosphere that had sadly been created.
Check-in has always been at 6pm. I understand it's not convenient for kids (that's why I gave you the right to come at midday, and come back later so I get enough time to clean the place after previous guests. You also left 2 hours after the check-out without even asking). Indeed, you should have booked somewhere else, but I don't think you would have found cheaper and better value for money. I acknowledge, I have not been very patient as I did not appreciate your haughty attitude. You gave me the wrong time for the taxi (he waited one hour and half) and did not even apologize, you blocked the toilet and I had to cancel the guests that were supposed to come after you (big loss for my business). You arrived well before check-in and both walked on wet floor while I was cleaning without even taking it into consideration. For the toilet, I don't take a deposit so I have the right to say something, at least. You came earlier than the check-in anyway, I offered drinks so I could finish the cleaning, you did not pay for your damages, so I don't get what you are really complaining about. I booked taxis several times, activities and restaurants for you. I also accepted canceling 4 dinners you booked, so you could go to the night markets and have a better experience. Don't think I have been that unfair! But it's true that I was ill-at-ease as I knew I could not trust you. I'm sorry you did not like it, fortunately, I get on well with all my guests and never had a bad comment before. However, I would have appreciate you to tell me how upset you was directly. I guess it's not my culture to fake my perceptions.
Stunning Stay in Saussignac!
What a beautiful B&B! Pauline and her husband have renovated an old house into a magazine worthy B&B. Attention to detail abounds. Each morning Pauline had a lovely spread of local fare for breakfast. She was very helpful in local events, including a night market which was full of local artisans offering foods and locally made items. We had an amazing meal and listened to a gentleman play the accordion - straight out of a movie. We would highly recommend staying here! Saussignac has been our favorite spot in France!
Thank you so much Lisa! You was lovely guests too! Hope you had a safe trip back to Colorado! Take care of yourself and your family..
We had a great couple of nights at Pauline’s.
The set up is brilliant and the meal Pauline cooked for us our first night was excellent. Both taste wise and value and would definitely encourage everyone who stays to choose this as an option during your stay.
Breakfasts were also fab, with fresh fruit, juice and breads etc.
A few extra little touches would elevate it even higher such as bathrobes as you share a bathroom(we were there with another couple) and also fitting the shower head so you can stand in the bath for a shower.
Pauline has only been open a couple of months and has achieved so much. I wish her well for the future and have no hesitation in recommending her place.
Thank you so much for you nice comment. I really appreciate. I just need to précise that you were in the suite with your friends (the other couple) as Potential guests keep asking me about the privacy of the suite. It's private, no matter how many you are. As long as you know each other. You do not have to share your bathroom with people you do not know!
Lovely and friendly stay!
Me and my husband stayed for 2 nights and we was very happy with our stay.
Pauline was a lovely host with great information on the surrounding area. She was able to point us in the direction to take, based on our ideas.
We was more than happy with the accommodation and the deco was very boutique and inviting. We had the whole of the upstairs which included a salon (living area) bathroom, separate WC and a massive cool bedroom with comfy bed to ourselves.
The village itself is very quiet and not any amenities; however we had a car and wanted to explore the surrounding area so going back to a quiet and peaceful village at the end of the night was most welcoming.
We would definitely recommend this B & B and would stay again.
Thank you very much, I really appreciate. Take care and see you soon hopefully.
